  • This video conveys the age of war. All content depicted and all sides shown in this video are not to be misconstrued within the context of this video as being glorified. I believe soldiers fight for their countries regardless of the side, this video merely is an attempt to put the audience back in time, to experience the music and the footage of the time as if they were actually there.

    I enjoyed watching this as a historian..... notice the little dog going with the German soldiers, a wagon load of hay to feed the work horses, and young boys playing war n street as well as doing army drills (no video games nor tv n 1910s). Pride no matter which side.

    I respect your disclaimer if it represents your genuine sentiments. If it's an attempt to deflect RUclips, I think it a pity it is necessary. Nothing about German soldiers in the First World War requires any disclaimer, any more than those of other armies of that war. But beyond, that this is some excellent and well put together footage with a fine version of the classic Beethoven march.

      World War 1 would not have happened if France was not seeking revenge for 1871 and wanting Alsace Lorraine back, the Austria-Serbia situation was a proxy war between Germany and Russia, and France/UK should have let them sort out the problem themselves.
      Problem is, if they did that, they knew Germany would absolutely win and become too powerful, and they could not allow balance of power in Europe favor Germany. That is all.
      As for WW2, that was 100% Germany's fault, aggression and lying. Though small partly to blame on the Versailles treaty being so harsh, causing further extremism.
      Overall, a gigantic tragedy for all of Europe involved, entire generation lost fighting over hegemony in Europe. Hopefully never again. The Honor, aesthetics and pride of militarism is very fascinating though, so at least we have that to appreciate the heroism.

      @@FriedrichBarb Germans had already a plan for invading France and Russia before WW1, they just searched an excuse, which was the Archduke assassination.
      Austria-Hungary which was an ally of the German Empire declared war on Serbia which was an ally of Russia, which was an ally of France and the United Kingdom, and the USA joined because the Germans sank an American ship.

    • @FriedrichBarb
      @FriedrichBarb 2 года назад +16

      @@pantherausf.d6914 You are extremely incorrect and biased, leave out major notes:
      1) Every nation had "Plan X" in preparation and incase of war, against multiple of their neighbors, even their allies. Having such a plan ready is defensive preparation, it is not valid evidence that offensive was certain. France had a plan before WW1 to go offensive in Germany also, so it goes against your logic
      2) Yes, like I said, it was a Austria-Hungary and Serbia dispute, Proxy war, between Germany and Russia. It has *nothing* to do with France or UK, and used "They are our ally" to stop German victory against Russia. So by definition, the real warmonger was France, making the situation more violent than it needed to.
      3) USA ships would have never been sunk had UK/France joined war, since then no reason to try cut off supply lines in the Atlantic and cause errors like that.

    Note the kids practicing the Prussian drill and wearing the Navy’s uniform or at least similar ones. It was very common in schools back then to practice military drill, marching and even parades with marches.
    This tradition has somewhat survived to this day with the local marksmen clubs in Westphalia still doing it frequently before their parades.
    Edit: So here‘s a funfact:
    It‘s actually illegal in Germany to march over a bridge in step. This is because many lighter bridges could start to swing which could potentially damage the bridge. Quite funny though how this is seen as a crime ^^

      I think it‘s much better that nowadays, kids can decide if they want to join these clubs or not. Though normally, they are separated from the adult clubs who are (obviously) in the vast majority.
      Have some clips of some good parades:

      @@scanida5070 Well I guess every few decades history teaches us again that the world hasn't become any nicer (even though it might seem that way in our little bubble) and that maybe we should still have some focus as a society on beeing strong, disciplined, efficient and unified instead of overly tolerant, pacifist and liberal.
      Especially in Germany and Austria that is a huge problem in my eyes. Hell, some researchers even say we barely have any young people left that are willing to work 40 hours a week. We have started to take all the wealth and peace we have for granted.

    • @scanida5070
      @scanida5070 2 года назад +7

      @welc mabu Nonsense. I was born in the 90s and my Grandfather used to tell me that the youth hasn‘t changed one bit. I quote: “You’re the same old rascals as we were in our hay-day. The apples don’t fall far from the tree.”
      They literally stole weapons from military barracks and construction equipment and fucked around with it. My favourite story: They threw a hammer against a grenade without it going off. Two days later, the grenade awoke them in the morning.
      The youth has always been like this. We were all messing around with our friends in the streets or were disrespectful towards others, that’s just the average guy in puberty. Of course, there’s always the “Rotten” ones who smoke or are trouble makers around the clock but today’s youth is certainly not completely like that. It’s just that the loudest ones get the most attention.

      I think you must accept that parade marches can often be at a slightly different pace from route marches and at that period some regimental marches eg rifles marched faster than others. There is also the faster March of cavalry. The film maker has merely used the supplied stock. Beethoven would not have been aware of this!

      Drame ou pas, il y a une explication cohérente à beaucoup de choses. En décembre 1888, l'explorateur africain Eugen Wolf rendit visite à Bismarck et lui montra, au cours de la conversation, une carte de l'Afrique qui montrait quels territoires les puissances impérialistes s'étaient déjà emparés et que l'Allemagne ne devait pas être en reste. Bismarck rabroua l'émissaire avec ces phrases devenues célèbres: "Votre carte de l'Afrique est très belle, mais ma carte de l'Afrique est accrochée ici au mur: voilà la Russie, voilà la France, et nous au milieu; c'est ma carte de l'Afrique".

      Thanks to an other, more open-hearted French politician named Georges Demartial we know pretty well for almost one hundred years how this all started: In 1924, after analysing and comparing the diplomatic colour books published by all main WW1 powers, and the secret Tsarist documents published by the Soviet government, he published his book "The War of 1914, the Gospel of the French Foreign Ministry" (La guerre de 1914. L'évangile du quai d'Orsay) in which the main blame for the outbreak of the war was clearly assigned to Russia, incited above all by France, to a lesser existent by Great Britain. Since he based his evidence exclusively on documents published by France itself (which had been meant to prove the opposite), he could not be tried even in chauvinist France, since otherwise the court would have had to confirm the truth of his statements and the whole foundation of the peace "treaties" (and the lot of looting which was behind it) would have crumbled. By the way, the book "August 1914" by Barbara Tuchman is an imposition as a scientific book. Her bias is clearly evident in the fact that she herself is American and Jewish and wrote the book from a post-1945 perspective.
