    Nice job! That hot tub looks great! That Shop Vac sure came in handy there. If you’re interested in a pump, I have a Drummond 1/6HP submersible pump from Harbor Freight, and it’s great. I don’t have a pool or hot tub, but I do have rain barrels, and it pumps water out of those with more flow than a regular garden hose hooked up to a house. I remember it was around $60-$70, a few months ago when I bought it. It’s pretty sturdy and has a good, long cord on it too.

    Thanks. The video was helpful. Being daily users we have to drain and clean the tub no less than every 3 months. Only thing that bugs me is that our dealer mentioned NOTHING about purging. We have had the tub in use for 3 years and have come to the point where we can change the water and it clouds up in just a couple of days. Had I known about purging and the chemicals to do so, we would have saved ourselves worlds of trouble. I can only image the suds when my purging chemicals are delivered and I do it. I might have to wear a biohazard suit and keep the dog locked in the house 😞

    Do I figured how to use the vacume as a pump. You will need a down slope near the hot tub to drain it down hill or a longer hose to drain far away from the hot tub. What you do is you start the water with the vacuum. Then take the hose off the vacuum in the water will be ciphering out. I did this and my heart hub drained in 20 minutes and and I vacuumed out the rest. I have been wanting to buy a pump but nos I wont have to. At the same time I had the bottom drain house attached. This is great news for me becUse I live in a cold area so now Ill be abke to empty and fill my tub on days where it heats up a bit but it will be faster so I can start filling before dark

    My hot tub is around 2 years old and I change the water about every 3-4 months. I have always used a sub pump to drain it but last time when refilling the tub I made the mistake of filling back up without placing the hose in the filter compartment so I created an air lock (not good). So then I had to remove the panel and access the pump to bleed the air out. However while I was down there I opened the gravity drain valve and the most horrible smelling water came out. Does this mean that when tub is drained using a sub pump that one still must open gravity drain valve to let any remaining water out of the lines?

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626  4 года назад +1

      Now ya know how to fill it ;) I have everything open so that it would allow the water to drain as much as possible. It's also possible that the water in your drain line sits in there for a long time, and maybe there was some build up. It may not be a bad idea to open the drain occasionally for a short time just to flush the line out.

    1. How many hours did it take to drain without a submersible pump?
    2. What are your thoughts on this "Essential Values" brand jet cleaner I saw on Amazon? Apparently the Ahh-Some cleaner is pretty expensive whereas the Essential Values one is quite cheap.
    3. Can you really just suck up water with a shop vac? Isn't that dangerous?

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626  4 года назад +2

      Hmm, if I remember right, it was probably 2 or 3 hours. I think it should probably be fine. If it does the same function as the Ahh-Some did, it should be all good. You certainly can take in water with the shop vac, that's what it's designed for! Only thing to note is, you must remove the filter when doing wet vacuuming like that. On that particular vacuum, there is a float inside for when it is full. When the hose suddenly stops taking stuff in, and you hear the motor rev up, then it's time to empty it.

    I am having problems balancing the water FCL levels last few months. I have a Caldera Geneva 6 months old. (New) wit a salt system. The salt system is not keeping up with our use 5-10 times a week. FCL is so often reduced to 0,20.... So 2 times a week I have to add 120 - 240 manual liquid chlorine in it to keep FCL chlorine levels around 1-1,5 !
    Would purging with Ahh-Some be advised to do even if this is a new hot tub, which has this since the beginning? (Salt system not keeping up with chlorine needs)

    • @bethprice4656
      @bethprice4656 3 года назад

      I would recommend using Fresh n Clear in between uses. It oxidizes without a high chlorine level. If the chlorine still remains low, use dichlor to increase the level. Liquid chlorine has a ph of 13 and can cause you to have to add even more chems to to lower it. Have you looked at your salt cell? If you have scale build up it will reduce chlorine production, if not stop it. Also keep in mind liquid chlorine can raise your salt content and some systems will shut down if too high. I love what I do! P.S. with that much usage, you need to Darin every 3 to 4 months. Just sayin.

    • @Giusep1181
      @Giusep1181 2 года назад

      Just to confirm, you have replaced the disposable salt cartridge at least once already - right? That needs to be replaced every 3 or so months in your case. Also, you should get your phosphates level tested and I recommend Cleanse Weekly by Natural Chemistry as a perfect complement to the heavy use and importance of maintaining Low Phosphates in your FWTR tub… hope this helps!
