  • In this video, we show you how to effectively and efficiently purge your Hot Tub with Ahh-Some. It is extremely important for all Hot Tub Owners to do a deep cleaning on your tub. Purging your hot tub will allow your system to operate at peak efficiency as well as drastically reduce the amount of time and money you spend on maintaining your water. Hot Tub are meant to enjoy, not struggle with. For more information please go to www.ahhsome.com
    Follow these easy steps to ensure your purge is successful.
    Step 1 - Remove removable Head Rests
    Step 2 - Remove filter Cartridges from the filter compartment (if cartridges need to be cleaned, place them in the tub for a deep cleaning)
    Step 3 - Ensure that your water is properly balanced with adequate sanitizer
    Step 4 - Turn jets on low
    Step 5 - Add the required amount of Ahh-Some. 1 Teaspoon per 125 gallons of water. DO NOT OVERDOSE! Less is more.
    Step 6 - Turn jets on High
    Step 7 - Run for 30 minutes
    Step 8 - Turn jets off and disconnect main power.
    Step 9 - Do and initial cleaning of all gunk that has accumulated on the shell of the tub.
    Step 10 - Begin draining your tubs water. It is safe to drain your tub into your yard.
    Step 11 - Rinse filter cartridges (if you put them in the tub for a cleaning)
    Step 12 - Using a garden hose with nozzle, spray down the interior of the tub
    Step 13 - Remove excess water from the pipes with either a shop vac or simply turn power back on, cycle the jets for a couple of seconds, then turn off. Disconnect power.
    Step 13 - Wipe up any excess biofilm from the tub
    Step 14 - Begin refilling tub (refill through the filter compartment to prevent airlock)
    Step 15 - Once the water has risen above the lowest jet, turn main power back on
    Step 16 - Reinstall filters back into the filter compartment
    Step 17 - Bring your water temp up to where you like it.
    Step 18 - Balance your water
    Step 19 - Enjoy your tub
    Step 20 - Repeat as needed

    What I love about this product is that when I encountered a problem (I didn't read the instructions and threw my ceramic filters in there), I called the tech support number... and JIM ANSWERED. The buck stops here! He had a solution for me, which worked great... and it wasn't until after my first AHH-SOME purge that my water chemistry became crazy simple - the salt system began working as intended and I spent the last year just enjoying it instead of chasing problems. Definitely changed my ownership experience. I'm back here today because it's time to do it again... and I return to this video every water change as a refresher.

    Thank you so much for this video! I have an Envoy Hot Springs hot tub and this was very helpful. I'm now in the process of purging mine for the first time and I decided to use ahh-some! The process is going well so far! I have foam but it's not overflowing.
    I've only had my hot tub about a month but I decided that I needed to clean the pipes out from where new hot tubs are dirty due to them being tested at the factory where they're made and there is usually water that sits in the pipes that can cause issues from the beginning of use. I have a saltwater tub and the salt cartridge seems to be declining too fast so I decided to start with a very clean tub.
    Thanks again for this video is extremely helpful!

    If you only replace the water once a year (because it is salt system) do you ever recommend using the product in between fills or must you always drain the water out after you use it.

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  3 месяца назад

      Great question. Generally and as a rule, I only recommend using when you are going to drain your tub. Can you use it and NOT drain, Yes you can however there are some additional steps that MUST be taken to ensure safety. Ahh-some releases a lot of bacteria into the water. There are only isolated circumstances where I would recommend not draining. If you are only draining once per year, that is fine to do.

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  2 года назад +3

      Thank you very much. To answer your question you can absolutely wipe down with a vinegar/water solution. I personally do not, I just use the garden hose but I know many customers who do. Another little trick as well, if you run into a sticky spot on your tub that isn't rubbing off easily, you can take 1 teaspoon of gel and mix with 1 liter of water in a spray bottle and just spray on the sticky spot and let it set for a few minutes. It will then wipe right off.

    I did my first purge with Ahhsome and a tremendous amount of brown clay-like crude came out of my 6 month old Hot Springs Envoy. Since then, I noticed a dramatic improvement in the Hotspring Freshwater Salt System's performance. I was able to turn down the output level and can go many weeks without having to add chlorine granules and only shock (MPS nonchlorine) once a week. I previously had to add chlorine manually weekly and shock (MPS nonchlorine) after each use to supplement the salt system. I used to struggle to keep my chlorine levels up.
    * I just did another purge yesterday after 10 months. Only saw a mild green ring of film around the waterline. No thick brown clay-like gunk this time.. The water lines near the motor look brand new inside. I wonder if that is a result of the improved salt system performance from the last purge with Ahhsome. Where I really see a difference is with my jetted tub. With other brands, I had to do 3-4 purges to clear out the pipes..I kept seeing black flakes and gunk when trying to bathe...with Ahhsome, one purge gets it done..no black flakes. Clear clean water. I do deviate from the directions which say let system run for 30 minutes...I let my Spa and jetted tub run for closer to 1 and a half hours and let it sit off for 30 minutes before letting it run again for 10 minutes and draining. I find more crude is produced after an hour opposed to 30 minutes.

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  3 года назад +4

      Hi and great question. You can run the purge for longer than 30 minutes however, it is often times best to run the jets for 30 minutes, wipe up any and all gunk that accumulates on the shell of the tub and then let it sit for a few hours. Come back, add an additional 1/2 dose of Ahh-Some and run again for 30 minutes.

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  2 года назад

      Hello and thanks for the question. You absolutely do NOT need to have it balanced to effectively run Ahh-some through the system. You will lose a bit of effectiveness but it will be a very small amount of difference. We prefer the water to be above 80 degrees to run Ahh-some so that way the gel dissolves properly. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  Год назад

      Great question. I personally do not do this as any residual is very small. I would fill, and then run the jets for a good 15 to 20 minutes to flush out. Then I would start balancing as soon as your water reaches 80 degrees F. That said, you absolutely can refill, run the jets and then drain again.

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  2 года назад +1

      Morning Stephen. Thanks for watching and Yes, Ahh-Some absolutely will purge your tub of everything that isn't supposed to be in the plumbing. Depending on how old your tub is, you may or may not need to either do a 2nd purge back to back or to save some water, do this. Run the Ahh-Some for the full 30 minutes with the jets on high and filters out. Then turn jets off after the 30 minutes. Wipe up everything that comes out. Most often, it accumulates along the water line and the shell of the tub. Then let the tub sit for a few hours. Run the jets again for 20 minutes, no additional Ahh-Some needed. After that 20 minutes, wipe again. Repeat this process until you get more more gunk coming out. If you go longer than 24 hours, you will need to refresh your Ahh-Some. You can use the same water for this. Once you feel you have everything out, drain, refill, balance and enjoy. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

      Good morning Brynn. You absolutely should run Ahh-Some with your vents open. With regards to why you would want the water balanced, it is basically to allow the Ahh-Some to work the most efficiently. What we are most wanting to be balanced is your pH. Just wondering if we have to purge until there is no gunk produced? We have followed the ahh some instructions with a fill, purge, drain 3 times already. Each time we add ahh some to the highly chlorinated water, either green/brown or white/yellow gunk is produced. So we drain, vacuum the lines, refill and start the process again. Do we need to keep doing this until ahh some produces no gunk or have I blown our water bill for no reason 😂

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  9 месяцев назад +1

      Great question and there are times that additional purges are needed. However, I would not drain the water in between purges. You can continue to purge with the exact same water. This will save time and will save on the amount of Ahh-some used. Here is a good procedure. Purge the tub with the required amount of Ahh-some, and do the purge. After the cycle is completed, wipe the gunk away and let the tub sit for 30 minutes to an hour. This is actually of benefit as it lets the Ahh-some in the water sit in the plumbing. Then go back out and run it for 30 minutes and repeat. You can use the same dose of Ahh-some all day. At least 4 to 6 30 minute purge cycles before needing to add any additional. Once you have everything running clean, now it's good to go ahead and drain the tub. Hope this helps.

I was on the phone with a swim spa customer yesterday who ran it for the 30 minutes, then let it rest, he wiped up all the gunk and then ran it for an additional 30 minutes to get the remaining biofilm out. He stated that worked great for him. The choice is really up to you. 30 minutes is the key. As long you have it running for that period of time, you will be good to go. How much product do I have to use for a 6 person hot tub ?

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  2 месяца назад

      Hi and great question. It is more based on how many gallons are in the tub. A standard 6 person tub is generally around 450 gallons (give or take). I would start off with 3 teaspoons if you are using the gel. If you are using one of our single use pouches, use the entire pouch. If you are using one of our liquids, start off with 8 ounces and bump it up if need be. You can always add a bit more Ahh-some to the water if needed. Hope this helps.

  • @mjavanshad
    @mjavanshad 2 года назад

    I used the liquid version and followed the dosage recommendation. Didn't really foam up like in your pictures, wasn't much different than running the tub normally. 3 month old new tub, first purge. Didn't have really any scum to clean up. 330 gallons tub. Not enough ahhsome or just not dirty?

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  2 года назад

      Good morning. Which liquid did you use? If you used the liquid that comes in the 16 oz bottle you simply used the wrong product. Let me backup, not necessarily the wrong product but one that is not designed for Hot Tubs. That liquid is for Jetted Bathtubs. If you were to use that liquid in your hot tub, for 330 gallons you would have needed to use approx half to 3/4's of the bottle. If you used the Aqua Clarity, which is our newest product, you would have needed to use right around 10 ounces. Now that said, and this comes up a lot, why didn't anything or very little come out. It could be simply that you have a very clean tub and that is GREAT! More often than not though, the biofilm, mold, fungus, ect, is there, just didn't get released for whatever reason. In your case based on how new your tub is, and if you were using the liquid jetted tub cleaner, you more than likely didn't have enough. The only two purge products we have for hot tubs is the 2, 6 or 16 oz Gel or the Aqua Clarity. The Jetted Tub liquid will work but you need to use a LOT of it so it is not very cost effective. I would follow up again in 6 months, and use the gel or the Aqua Clarity this time. Thank you so much for commenting and don't hesitate to reach out to me directly with any questions. Phone and email are on the website. Have a great day,

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  2 года назад

      Hi Jay and thanks for your question. Most of the time you are absolutely correct. Not a good idea at all to run the tub without the filters. However, when you are running Ahh-Some through your tub, we release so much biofilm and other contaminants that if you were to leave your filter cartridges in place, they would get so gunked up that they would almost always need to be discarded. In addition, you would see significantly less water pressure coming out of the jets as they became more contaminated. I always recommend to everyone to make sure that there are no leaves or anything of significant size in the water prior to starting the purge. Once the purge is complete, and after refilled, just put the cartridges back in place. Hope this helps.

    • @ahh-some
      @ahh-some  2 года назад +1

      Hi Wendy, generally no, you will not need to drain again. 99% of all the gunk and grime that comes out will attach itself to the shell of the hot tub. It looks like a "ring around the collar". That said, there are some tubs that will need to be drained again simply due to the significant amount of gunk and grime that was removed. Generally, anything remaining in the plumbing system that comes out will be killed off by the sanitizer in your hot tub. I hope this helps however if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to email or call us.

      Just let that residual of Ahh-Some that you see left over that did not dissolve- is what you are saying here & let the fresh refill water take care of it, it's okay that the leftover Ahh-Some is still in the tub because it will dissolve,, also provide a beneficial sanitizing effect after the new refill. Thank you for the comment. Yes, you can use some chlorine however don't go overboard. It doesn't really "help" make Ahh-some any more effective. It is good to use some to kill off what does come out however. Also, there are some tubs, that have an excessive amount of biofilm build up. It is 100% ok to go longer on your purges. 30 minutes on, wipe up, let the tub sit for a few hours, 30 minutes purge again, wipe up, let the tub sit. No need to drain the water in between purges. Just keep going. We have many customers who do this for days to absolutely make certain there is nothing left in the pipes. This is not needed all the time, often times, just on the very first use. After that, one 30 minute purge is all you need. Every tub is a little different. Hi Jason. My recommendation is to do your purge sooner rather than later. If you or your family is/was like mine, they couldn't wait to get in the tub when we first got it many years ago. Is it absolutely necessary to complete immediately? No, but it is better if you do. The tub is already dirty from the manufacturing process. I would say that most everyone generally either does it right away or within the first 4 to 6 weeks after having the tub in place. When we got our new tub 2 years ago (we had an older one that was just falling apart) I purged it right away and I was very happy I did so. It was quite dirty. If it was me, I would do it right away and just get the first purge done and over with and allow yourself to enjoy a good clean tub right from the beginning. Hope this helps.

I noticed in your purge, you only did it once despite having a pretty good amount of sludge come up. It's important in my case, because my skin is very susceptible to Folliculitis. I hate to itch. That said, you can continue to purge using the same water and the same Ahh-some for a solid 24 hours before you need to add anymore and then you can just dump when done.
