- In this video I discuss the bizarre character known as Matt Farley. As of this video, he's released over TWENTY THOUSAND songs on streaming apps. Matt's strategy is to write a "song" about nearly anything imaginable so that he will eventually pop up in as many search results possible. This strategy has yielded him hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties.

I love his music. Of course, he has released a lot of mid music. Who hasn't?
But I found really great songs that I love. And I think you really can overlook the raw sound. Not everything has to be a perfect studio production.
"The River Mud Shuffle" is more important and culturally relevant than Van Morrison, honestly. Your own songs, the twain to which I have listened, are decent and tentatively on the right track, I freely admit, but they don't get the blood pumping in the same way, you know? Music is for the soul, primarily, not the art crowd, as I understand it. Look to "The River Mud Shuffle" music video as your lodestar.

Plus you havent released a song since 2020 so why dont you make 20,000+ songs. he kinda feels like a poor mans version of Randy Newman, just, a silly voice, simple goofy songs that sometimes sound like baby music (I mean, he did You Got A Friend In Me, and many more Pixar film scores, like Monsters Inc and A Bug's Life, you can't get any more baby music than that), and plays piano... but nowhere near as charming, with zero of the charisma and talent, and is somehow even more childish than the guy who made music for kids movies.
I don't really listen to Randy Newman, but I know for sure the man has much more class and wouldn't sink so low as to make songs about shit...

I've encountered his songs, can't remember if I found him via being referred to how cleverdumb his approach is or by legitimately getting him as a search result.
Kids' RUclips such as 'Kids Learning Tube' does similar 'educational' song generation.
AI dance instrumentals including the brand 'Pulse Peaks' make these, with song titles AND 'artist' names generated as random words to find what you'll Google - including my obscure British home-town, about which Matt has also sung very vaguely.
AI is gonna outpace him, able to publish songs in less time than it takes to hear them. Anything with this vibe of "the internet is so weird that there's something like THIS out there" is gonna be sent into warpspeed by inhuman autogeneration. SEO, like Matt is doing, is about matching the intellectual specifics of a bot, and bots can and will do that more accurately and profusely than Matt... so he's technically not as insincere as this stuff is gonna get.
There's like a million songs being released like every minute so now this dude is contributing 20,000 songs to the already oversaturated market? God damn.
A lot of people in the comments cruising for a bruising. Also, guy in the video, try a more original approach than this “he’s a spammer” route that’s been done a hundred times.

Just reading the song titles of his Australian DOUBLE album made me feel disgusted (seriously, “Canberra Is The Capital of Australia, And This Song Is About It”?. Fortunately, Thredbo was not on there but in the process I found a really nice classical piece with only around 1200 streams. Thredbo Suite: Air from the High Mountain.

I agree with the sentiment that he's not really hurting anyone, but I think what gets under my skin is he's making that much money and he can't put some of that into hiring a graphic designer to make him some real album covers. If he has as much pride in his work as he says, you'd think he'd go the extra step to make it look nice.

I think Matt IS kind of a grifter, with how you describing him. But he's kind of hurting other musicians by straight up clogging everything. But, that grift will kind of fail because that kind of music HAS to be made well. And with over 1000 or so songs on Spotify, he blocks chances that others MIGHT. But eventually, people will grow up and notice the drop in quality, whether it be making the same song over and over, or just people losing interest in general. It happens. He;s pretty much if Simple Plan were just one person. Sure, you'll have a fan base, but only for a specific period of times and they'll move on. You CAN make silly songs, look at Flight of the Conchords. They make silly songs but they have high quality to where you can hum it. Matt? His quality of music will be like the production of the first RHCP album. Empty, full of holes and feels like there is a lack of passion, despite some ability.

I've listened to "Tin Roof Tap Dance" by Moes Haven about 70 times.
I listened to "Cow Say "Moo." Cow Go Poo." by the Odd Man who sings about Poop, Puke and Pee about 50 times. His songs are made well enough to be loved by his fans. Some of his songs have a personal meaning to me.
Listen to "Hundred Jam 1" by The Motern Manly Band. It's touching. What more would you want from music?
