0:22: 💬 The speaker discusses the importance of having fears in order and the reasons why people lie out of fear.
    - The speaker talks about the introduction of a legislation that required them to use a detestable form of language.
    - People lie out of fear to avoid responsibility or to gain something they don't deserve.
    - Fear plays a role in people's tendency to lie.
4:09: 🧠 Human beings have a unique capacity for abstract thought, which distinguishes us from animals.
    - Animals act based on conceptualization and if it fails, they die, while humans use abstract thought to generate variants of themselves.
    - The part of our brain that generates abstract thought is separate from the part that generates factual representations of the world.
    - Freedom of speech is not about discussing facts, but about expressing abstracted variants of ourselves.
7:45: ! Interfering with free speech prevents people from destroying stupidity and dooms them to hell.
    - God calls on the Pharaoh to abandon his tyrannical presuppositions, but the Pharaoh doubles down and things get worse.
    - The death of the future itself is the ultimate sacrifice when free speech is interfered with.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🗣️ *Freedom of Speech and Personal Fears*
    - Freedom of speech is crucial in Western democracies and is tied to legislation.
    - Peterson emphasizes the importance of having fears in order to navigate challenges.
    - Personal stance on using language he finds detestable to protect freedom of speech.
02:06 🤔 *Profound Conception of Freedom of Speech*
    - Freedom of speech is not just a right among others; it is the predicate of all rights.
    - Peterson argues that it is the predicate of a functioning psyche and a society's adaptive flexibility.
    - Conservatives' failure to grasp the profound role of free speech in societal integrity.
04:14 🧠 *Biological Uniqueness of Human Thought*
    - Human abstract thought is a unique part of the brain.
    - Abstract thought involves generating variants of oneself and testing their viability through criticism.
    - The purpose of thinking is to let go of stupid thoughts, avoiding dire consequences.
06:15 ⚖️ *Sacrificial Pain in Free Speech*
    - Sacrificial pain is associated with free speech, as individuals confront and correct their own misapprehensions.
    - Interference with free speech can lead to the perpetuation of foolish ideas, dooming individuals to negative consequences.
    - The Exodus story is used as an analogy to illustrate the dangers of doubling down on tyrannical predispositions.
09:00 🤷‍♂️ *Misunderstanding of Freedom of Speech*
    - Critique of the left's hedonistic view of freedom of speech.
    - The misunderstanding of the relationship between freedom of speech, thought, and adaptation.
    - Freedom of speech is not a mere hedonistic whim but a fundamental aspect of thought and adaptation.

It is well worth playing devil's advocate, especially when you are young, as in early teens through to early twenties. Be the contrarian among your friends, argue the sides that you don't believe. It becomes very useful later when you want to think. You can have your ideas already well advanced because you have thrown every counter argument that you can think of at your own them.

I also start to understand the use of bullying and pretending to be tough! So people can gradually make their choices in life. Personally I always fall back on the point of the law. We have laws to deal with what is deemed hate speech or dangerous speech, and they should be enough. We need to guard against organisations making rules about speech, guard against individuals deciding what is misinformation and disinformation, two current buzzwords worth examining. Then we need to be aware of the abuse of these powers to decide what is hate, or what is disinformation, it can be used to shut down dissenting voices, and that's really the danger. If you dare, use the example of doctors who have questioned the Covid narrative and have lost their licenses, even though their concerns were later proven correct.

I don't agree. We teach our children to think BEFORE they speak. We don't teach them to talk and think at the same time stumbling mistakenly with every word. The wise person shares their innermost thoughts only with the wind. The deepest "right" is to be able to keep silent. Once a person has mastered silence, then they can learn how to speak. Language is ambiguous at best and the source of all misunderstanding.

Did you know Maha Dakhil, one of the most successful agents in Hollywood, lost a series of high-profile connections and was forced to resign from her CAA board position because of the above comments? Did you know France banned all Pro-Palestinian protests around mid-October? Do you know how the United States is currently working against campus-based pro-Palestinian demonstrations?
If Jordan Peterson never addresses the enormous suppression of Free Speech around Israel/Palestine--a GLARING modern day issue as it pertains to freedom of expression--DOES HE REALLY BELIEVE IN FREE SPEECH?... Or does Free Speech depend on who's paying the bills? Because, then, the biggest campaign donors are determining our freedoms, aren't they?

What about those eureka moments when you know it's a good idea or rather having learned by habit the self-discipline of behavior? His use of language is mortifying, believing in the fear of moral death. Turns out all men are liars and sometimes they don't know that they are lying or repeating a lie. He is humorous in his presentation. It's comedic.

There should not be any question in anyone's mind, that if Jordan could, he would not allow anyone to speak that is transgender ... simply because Jordan does not believe that "those people" even exist.
These are Jordan’s Peterson’s extremely hurtful words (verbatim) … “Gender identity and gender expression are not valid ideas. They are not true. There is no evidence for it. I don’t know what the options are, if you don’t identify as a man or a woman. There is an idea that there’s a gender section. I think that is an ill-informed opinion. Gender identity and sexual orientation are the same thing. I don’t believe these people, these terms, stand for good things. I think these people use these terms as a pretense that they stand for good things; as a pretense for them to carry on their nefarious activities.”

From a scientific point of view, Jordan makes sense. If you want to promote a different belief, then you need to deal with opposition. The claim of hurt feelings is unfortunately weaponized to keep people from speaking their thoughts, and therefore can't be taken into account. Yes, he'd let you speak, but he'd debate your arguments.

@@solaveritas2 Being that Jordan has hundreds of podcasts on countless subjects that stray from his teachings as a psychologist, I find it odd that you think anyone is trying to take away his freedom of speech.
The Board of psychologists in Ontario after receiving many complaints from irate citizens about Jordan disabusing his license as a psychologist on social media, felt moved to take Jordan to court ... and that is what got Jordan into trouble.
Do you think it fair that Jordan should have been able to USE his license as a psychologist to say whatever came to his mind on any subject to in turn make millions of dollars on social media ... while other psychologists should stick to the rules that they signed up for by counseling just a few people each day in their stuffy offices?
Jordan might think he is so entitled ... but I disagree.

Jordan only respects his own freedom of speech.
He would like nothing better than to shut everyone up that agrees with that word transgender.
    Don't let him fool you.
I'm an Atheist, yet I found this book very interesting, as it helped me to understand the suffering of those who are transgender and are often perceived as "sinners" by those in religions, who look “down” on them.
In the quest to feel normal, this person 6 ft. 3 inches in size, as an adult changed genitals from male to female.

From the book … God Doesn’t Make Mistakes: Confessions of a Transgender Christian … author … Laurie Suzanne Scott … I was compelled to write this book, because I could no longer just idly sit by and listen to Christians in total ignorance talk about how people who are transgender are out to destroy families, attack women and girls in bathrooms, pump children full of hormones and ruin society in general.
Nor could I allow Christians who are transgender complain about “evangelical church” (referring to predominantly conservative Christians) and how hateful and un-Christ-like it was.
I am a conservative evangelical Christian who is transgender, so I am likewise hurt when I see a similar ignorance displayed toward churches and people with whom I identify.

Jordan is not trying to shut up people for their beliefs. He questions the activism around transgendersim, he also harshly criticises those who immorally profit from (and therefore promote) medical treatments and surgeries, and rightfully so. You too, should be on the side of young people who are convinced by social media and activism that transitioning will alleviate their teenage angst and discomfort with their own bodies. When left alone, most of these kids will grow out of it and/or grow up to be gay. The studies are clear on this. You should also be on the side of women who have a right to no male genitalia in their changing rooms and to fair competition in sports. Unless you defend this, you are part of the problem!
