I have always been a steelhead bum so it is never about numbers for me. I also guided in Alaska and remember the frustration of dealing with 2 fly nymph rigs. I had not used a nymph rig since 1999 until this summer in Idaho with my nephews. Fortunately for me that didn't last long and it was back to dries for dumb fish in small mountain streams. Nothing quite like remote mountain trout that probably haven't seen people before to teach kids and get them excited about fly fishing. Teaching my nephews to fly fish the last few years has been the pinnacle of my 30 years of fly fishing. Dry flies and swinging with spey rods is my favorite. Stripping streamers for local cutthroat is pretty awesome too.
