    I just came across this video…glad to see 1293 back up and running. I remember when she had to go into the shop after her firebox was overheated in 04 or 05? Here at the salt yard in Columbus where they tore her down and pulled her back to the shops.

    1293 would've looked better if she had her CP Tuscan Red. Hopefully AOSR will run some more trips now that MH&NF 12, and LS&I 33 are operating.

    • @mylesspear
      @mylesspear 4 года назад +6

      Buynot that would be nice! However, Gennesee and Wyoming are not open to let age of steam run excursions on their rails right now. They do on occasion let them run down to sugar creek to put one of their engines on display but that’s the extent of what they can do. I have heard though that G&W have had a change in management so maybe they will be a little more open to steam on their railroad but only time will tell.

      6325 was side lined with some ishues back during the Ohio central days, both it and 1293 need 15 year rebuilds. Once the 19 is out of the shop (it will be a few years) 1293 will get a rebuild. Unless excursions are planned I doubt 6325 will ever run again. Becieds 1551, 13, and 4 are in line next.

    CP G5 class Pacific's were commuter engines. The G3s were freight. So they got the wrong load behind her.

      G5 pacifics were light post WWII engines designed for dual service on branchlines and secondary mains to replace old worn out pre wwi power.

    • @trainknut
      @trainknut 2 года назад

      Both were dual service; by the time the G5 class was introduced in WW2 the 4-6-2 had long since been outclassed in mainline passenger service by engines like the Hudson and Selkirk, plus diesels(obviously)... Considering 1293 happened to be one of the last of the last Pacific's its probable she actually ended up spending more time in freight duty than anything else as CPR was already dieselizing it's system as early as 1949 - less than a year after she was built.
      I've seen plenty of video and photos of both G3s and G5s in freight service, particularly near the end of steam.

      drby0788 as far as I know. It is just special occasions. The railroad has granted him limited track rights. He gets 4 opportunities a year to operate his equipment on the mainline. This was part of the agreement when he sold all of his rights to the Ohio Central.
