The Age of Steam Roundhouse of Sugarcreek, Ohio is an eclectic collection of steam locomotives housed inside a fully recreated 15-stall roundhouse. In November 2021, a select group of photographers were invited for an exclusive photo charter event for a rare glimpse at the steam era. This was faithfully recreated with Morehead & North Fork 0-6-0 12 fired up and operated around the premises. Between switching cars in the freight yard and being tended to at the various structures, it didn't take much effort to make the overall atmosphere as believable as possible.

Age of Steam Roundhouse is a total fever dream
This place is high on my list of places to visit and I sure do hope to visit it someday
@atsfevan0242 me too
@atsfevan0242 been there several times. It’s amazing! Highly recommend going when they’re running number 12, though. Adds that much more to the experience.
@@mylesspear sounds great
Good to see that 1187 has gotten a small cosmetic restoration
This video sure felt like I was in a different era with the photo charter and the people there acting like it was still the steam era.
To me, this is what a roundhouse is. Not a decaying mausoleum or a silent gallery..A roundhouse is a lively place, the clank and bang of tools, the whirr of dynamos and the thump of air pumps cycling.
It's alive with the yard goats shuttling back and forth on their errands while the road power is maintained or readied for the next run.
Most of all it's the people, a roundhouse has the sounds of people. People working, sometimes an odd curse, a cheery hum or a little ditty being whistled, a few snatches of conversation rising over the din.
I have always enjoyed your content and this is no exception. We hope to host you again in the future, as these events become more frequent (AOS voulunteer here)
Thanks, it was a great time and we will gladly attend more AoS events when they happen.
I like the tank car. I live in Delaware and work in Wilmington. Cool to see a local car.
Talk about a window to the past. Awesome video. Especially since I'm a fan of the smaller steamers.
Glad you enjoyed
What a cool video Dynamo, I am a big fan of Age for Steam I notice someone familiar reading Trains Magazine. But I'm not spoiling it.
Glad you enjoyed
@@DynamoProductions-trains yep
Reading no.1187 was on the Strasburg railroad and renumbered 4
Me: The trains are beautiful.
Trains: Thank You.
FINE, I WANT TO SEE MORE WHEELS ON THE RAILS. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.
Glad you enjoyed
This is a very genius peice of videoeering
1187 looks even better then it was before! Out of all the steamers there, which one is your favorite?
This is biased, but I love the Nickel Plate Road so I would have to say 763.
Oh geesh, can’t name just one but my top 3 would have to be 12, 1551, and 1293.
Another amazing video! ONCORE ONCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed
Great video!
Thanks
Pretty darned good photography! A couple of scenes (particularly the opening one with the engine house man reading “Trains” magazine sitting in front of the engines) are quite Norman Rockwell-esque !
Would LOVE to see 13 fired up and running!
Agreed. At least sister BC&G 4 is awaiting restoration.
The age of steam Roundhouse just announced that one of their locomotives that will be restored eventually is the 13
Nice done video :)
Thanks
i really want to go there to see 1187!
I love that round house!! I think it's really cool. I wish I could see it in its heyday and to be able to work there!! Out of the steam locomotives there, how many run?
This roundhouse was built brand new in 2012, the first new one built since the 1950s. The 12 is their only operable steam engine, the 33 and 19 are the closest to being operable again.
@@DynamoProductions-trains What happened to 33 anyway? It looks like it was being tested 3 years ago. Did the test not prove successful?
@@blackbirdgaming8147 ran until 2020 then it was taken out of service for an overhaul.
@@Thatonerandomguy1331 Got it, thanks.
Holy smokes! They restored 1187 already? Granted it's only cosmetic but still!
Also, is 12 the only operable steam engine as of now or are there others? I know 1293 and 6325 used to but need numerous repairs to get back up.
The 12 is the only operable steam engine at Age of Steam right now. Everything else needs repairs or rebuild to run again.
I hear they trying to restore NKP 763 to operation. They need money first. They say her full restoration will cost over 1,000,000 dollars.
Only if they get exursion rights as of now restorating the 19 and keeping 12 running is the main focus along with some cosmetic restrictions and possibly restoring 1293 and 1551
The likes of 763 steam again are unliekly
@@OldIronVideo yep, that's exactly what they have planned.
I doubt they will restore 763. If a big engine ever was to be restored, they’d probably go with 6325. It would be a good bit of work fixing the bearing issues and doing a 1472, but it could be done.
@@blackbirdgaming8147 agreed
I guess Nickel Plate Berkshire #763 is awaiting an uncertain future, correct?
It’s on display indoors, that’s a pretty certain future.
@@DynamoProductions-trains is that locomotive going to be that way forever?
It’s their engine, they’ll deal with it as they see fit. In this very video, you can see a freshly restored locomotive operating so it’s not like they aren’t making progress.
When did they get Nkp 763 ?
I know OC/GTW 6325 was taken out of service, but what year was she sent there ?
They’ve had 763 since 2007. They have had 6325 in the collection since 1992 and it’s been at the roundhouse since it opened.
wait 13's operational?
No, it was a diesel moving it around
@@DynamoProductions-trains nice cuts lmao
@@DynamoProductions-trains Wish 13 was under steam again along with 1293, 6325 and 1551!
What the hell, is this video mean ,??????
Train go forward, then backwards
