Another great episode. You had much better weather than we did a couple of months ago at Eungella. So pleased that you saw a platypus. Thanks for bringing good memories back for us.
Platypuses are active mainly at night, so for most of the year the best times to see them are at dawn or dusk. In winter and early spring they're more active during the day too, as the colder weather means they need more food so have to spend more time finding it. This is handy for humans who are hoping to see one.
You guys are in my backyard. I work for the sugar company that harvests all of that cane in the Pioneer Valley. The water up at Finch Hatton Gorge is cold, even in summer, as it comes out of the mountains. When at first you didn't see platypus, I was saying to myself, go to Broken River. You always see platypus there. I usually go to see them at the road bridge.
Haha yeah that’s exactly where it was to be fair mate. Oh really? The cane goes on forever - it’s pretty spectacular around there mate, must be nice to live there
Mackay like Bundaberg was covered by a dense tropical rainforest before they cleared it by hand in those days to grow sugar cane. Australia doesn't do cold LOL. those stingers in the surf are not there during the winter months. march to October, but they protect themselves by covering the whole 12 months with their signs.
There is NOTHING better than Zelda approved holidays!!! I'm am glad that you had the opportunity to have a couple of days off and chill in the northern area of QLD. I must apologise for all the damn sugar farms. You would think the locals would protest. It can be SO boring driving north - and that is ALL you see - sugar farms!!! It is ALMOST a relief to see the local refinery that processes it all, almost. Still, I'm glad that you ticked off the final bucket list item. Onward to see a croc... Just don't get too close. and DONT swim anywhere!!!
Zelda was awesome haha. We miss her a lot, there is a lot of cane up here for sure, can’t wait to see a croc - haven’t had much luck so far in that regard
Whales - tick, platypus - tick, cute pets - tick, door repair - tick, great video - you guessed it - tick

Those sugar cane fields supply a lot of jobs.
