RUclips compression smashed both feeds with low bitrate. I guess the real lesson here is your camera doesn't matter, RUclips will smash the hell out of it
Or better detail on cameras reached a level that the differences are marginal and other factors play a much higher role in your camera choice. Which is a nice evolutionary step to be in.
I ordered my 5pro today , this is great comparison ... I had Hero 13 , sold it ... froze 2 times ... i have action 4 too ... I can see slight edge for 5 pro ... love my DJI cameras and drones ...
What sold me on the Action 5 Pro is the flawless connectivity of their DJI Minis... which sounded good in reviews and also have more dynamic range than my Rode Wireless Pro Lavs. Tried it in all scenarios my previous setups didn't work, and it performed rock solid in every single one of them. I just love this cam.
I can't explain it, but when you are doing the side by side, my eye always wants to stay on the GoPro footage. There is something about it that my brain just wants to focus on more and maybe it is just that I'm so used to Gopro footage. The DJI though is maybe technically better the blur in GoPro at times is almost better to watch.
I think that`s because of the action 5 default settings. Even if it`s clearly better than the hero 13 on a technical level, the poor config makes it look worse. The Gopro also has a slighly wider angle compared to the DJI so that might make it look more appealing
Somehow I prefer the lens correction on the Action 5 way more than GoPro's Hyperview... but color science wise I would agree - the Gopro still just looks more natural and pleasing to the eye.
For MTBing, one important feature GoPro has that DJI osmo action 5 pro and Insta360 ace pro 2 do not (not yet but hoping it’s coming…) is horizon lock with wide lens mod. Good comparison review, thanks!
Audio is a significant factor for me when viewing and I prefer the mic, or at least the mic settings, on the DJI. I noticed this in another comparison video as well.

@nols7404 nope, a friend of mine has both the 11 and 12, and both keeps freezing sometimes. All ordered from the official site, including the batteries and sd cards
I've seen a lot of comparisons now and there should not even be a discussion about wich one to get, especially since the better one you should buy is also the cheaper option. The price jump in Germany is even bigger, 449€ vs 379€. You could almost get the Action 5 Pro Adventure Combo wich includes extra batteries and a charging case for the price of a single Hero 13… That's just wild. Also the GoPro ultra wide mode is so bad its borderline unusable in my opinion. You can even see it after a jump, when you look down a little and the entire shot warps around the top and bottom borders of the video. Makes me feel nauseous… You can see that example really well at 1:25 directly after the cameras switch.
Wow I've been GoPro for a very long time but the Action is just incredible here. Gopro just looks muddy and too soft. And that audio from the Action is incredible. If I had the money I'd get an action but hey at least my Hero 7 Black is still going strong. Good video
Just demoing the bike for now, but so far so good! Rear end is nice and supple and the geo of the small is in the ballpark for me. I've only been out on 2-3 times so far so still mostly first impressions and dialing in the setup. Hoping to squeeze in another couple of rides before the new year if life and weather cooperate.
2:46 gopro has a longer focal point. The dji has a closer focus so the bars and nearer objects are very crisp and noticeable. The gopro always seems to focus best on things about 4-5ft away.
The fact that you HAVE to side load the DJI software since it was removed from the Play store and it is necessary to have in order to register the camera should be something mentioned. It may seem minor but for some it can be a deal breaker. Otherwise I think the DJI is the better cam of the two. Would love to see a side by side with the Insta model as well.
Action 5 pro for me but on another note I like the mounting position ots just a little lower and shows more top tube and the bike moving around. I like it 👌
@@marcoantoniomunozcanche3448 NO he is not. I own both. Theonly thing the osmo does/has better is the battery life and night mode. The rest goes to the Gopro
@@Mr.Majingilane And battery life, stabilization, responsiveness, stability, option to connect mics wirelessly, magnetic mounts, unexpectedly good accessories... The list for me is actually quite long and came as a huge surprise... The color science is still better on the gopro though but... what good thats that do if this thing crashes during my once in a lifetime shot...
It auto-ISO's to 1600 and becomes pretty unusable at this setting already. The low light comparisons in this video are pretty accurate. And he didn't even use the Action 5 Pro's low light mode which pixel-bins the picture to 1080p and boosts light again by a ton. This thing not only has a bigger sensor, it really makes use of its sensor and processor for some computational imaging power-ups.
10:50 I just bought a gopro hero 13 black 25 days ago and I was disappointed with the footage, and I sold the gopro 13 again for a very cheap price. I immediately moved to DJI osmo 5 pro.
It doesn't look like DJI has its own editing app. Third party apps are plentiful, however. Those that aren't interested in becoming the next Loam Ranger, Dale, ...or Dangerous Dave, would like a clever little app to edit quickly and on the fly.
The DJI Mimo App claims it does editing. It looks and feels like a super cheap chinese insta360 knock off that just won't work though. It does a bit of AI fast editing that produces "show your grandma on whatsapp"-results, but I failed hacking together a nice little clip on my own and after a frustrating hour I just switched to capcut and did it there in 2 minutes. So yeah... Your comment probably is correct: They don't have an editing app XD
Great comparison video. Are the Action 5's start/stop recording sounds significantly different? One of the few things I like about the GoPro is that the start/stop recording sounds are easy to tell apart without looking at the screen which is very useful in conditions with a lot of background noise (wind, crowds etc).
I tried the Action 5 pro while riding and so far I'm satisfied with the footage even with low bitrate turned on. I'm bad at color grading though... You can see the results on the footage I uploaded.
Yes, it comes with a gopro-mount to dji magnetic mount accessory. So you can screw it onto all of your gopro mounts everywhere or place a few of those adapters and quickly snap that cam in place wherever you want.
I’m not sure what editing software you use, but the switching between dark and light exposures is a problem that I have often when editing footage in Da Vinci Resolve. The footage will look fine out of the camera, then once I make some tweaks and such it will become incredibly twitchy and very annoying to watch.
I think this is an issue with the camera rather the editing software. I edited both the DJI and GoPro footage using Resolve and only the DJI footage had the flicker.
So, you were not using the wide lens in the go pro, correct ? I’m not decided which camera to buy , but in my opinion, think I’m going to the GoPro or to the ace pro2. I don’t intend to use them on the helmet, will use it in the chest mount or on bike for road rides. For what I’ve seen so far, In the chest , the action5 has a lot distortion in fov, more distortion than the GoPro or the ace pro2; also, mounted on the chest, the action5 seem to blur the ground with much less detail than the other two; also seems that from these three cams, the action5 has less real color when filming in default settings and almost obligates hard work editing, and this is something that I don’t have a clue, skills and time to do. So, for me , for mounting on chest or bike and for “point and shoot” the action5 isn’t the better option. What do you think ? Thanks
I was using the default lens in Hyperview mode on the GoPro. As for color, the action 5 footage looks good if you film in d-log M and apply the DJI lut, but the default settings have a bit too much of an HDR-look in my opinion. Of the cameras I've tested, I think the previous generation Action 4 delivered the best footage using the default settings with no editing.
That flickering effect of the A5Pro is a deal-breaker and they still haven't fixed it... No other action cam has that issue, kind of a step back from the Action 4.
Gopro have seen 13 different iteration of the main camera so there's less things to improve I think, they seems to focus more on accessoirise and reselling what you already bought sadly, it's a shame, I always used and loved their cameras but I too think they suck at improving versus DJI and Insta
Still running 2 Hero9s for this reason. The upgrades where so minor, a switch wasn't justified and the hero9 after firmware update where the only ones that don't crash mid-recording.
I'm not sure if it's RUclips compression or the 5 Pro settings but it looked so murky/pixilated the whole time. All comparison videos I've seen the 5 Pro beats the Hero 13 hands down and even you are saying that in your commentary but I actually really liked the look of the Hero 13 in your video. As you said, the 5 Pro tried to go way too bright meaning the ISO was dialled far too high resulting in a very poor image quality. Obviously this is a simple fix by dialing the EV down before filming but given that 99% of users will use auto mode this is very disappointing to see.
I think the Hero 13 looks more pleasing. The Action 5 Pro has an over-sharpening halo, it looks awful. The leaves on the trees appear oversaturated and almost cartoonish. I'll stick with GoPro until they sort out the HDR issue.
i can tell when you switch cameras.. the action camera is better feeling and more "real" feeling. gopro is more..im not sure what to compare it to. it seems less "real" by a hair. i can't pinpoint the reason. but i like the action camera better.

@@ddangerousddave Legally you have to disclose that you got paid. This probably took you one day to make, not a week.
