- When it came time to write her valedictorian speech, she decided to share a secret she's been living with for years -- she's an undocumented immigrant.

I'm proud of her and what she's accomplished so far. She's a bright young lady with a bright future ahead of her.

Half of the people that tell her she doesn’t belong here didn’t even graduate. Yet she’s off to y’all with a bigger future than your 40 year old minimum wage worker life.
The question here is how she is filing for "citizenship." There is a process to follow and a person cannot just apply directly for citizenship. A person first has to apply for permanent residency and eventually citizenship. People need to get educated before making comments.

This woman has courage, intelligence and a plan to do things well. It is evident to me this family is not here to exploit / abuse the benefits available. Perhaps it would be wise to enlist the services of DD-214ers aka Military Veterans, 22 million strong, to help determine who would be worthy candidates for a push toward citizenship or deportation. DD-214ers have been trusted to protect this country before, nothing has changed.

The narrative does not hold up. There is no way you can apply for US citizenship immediately after arriving in the US on a tourist visa. If they meant Permanent Residence, I don't see how they could possibly qualify either (the bar is extremely high). So, I assume that they applied for Refugee status.

I can't believe most of these horrible comments. Actually I can. There is so many hatred in this world. At least she's doing something positive. Something good for herself and others. I saw a few comments saying America is giving all this free money? What about all these drug addicts we see on a daily basis getting high in parks in front of our children. Begging for money? That should be illegal. Not going to school and getting an education.
With her college degree she can get a great job in Mexico. Are we suppose to feel sorry for her?

Can someone please explain how illegal immigrants are able to gain employment in the United States. Every business that I know asks for a social security card, but how do you produce one when you are not here legally? If you use a fake card with a fake number, wouldn't that be also a crime? Also, if you work without a social security number, how do you pay your taxes? If you don't pay your taxes wouldn't that also be a crime?
there is more than 11 million illegal immigrants nobody knows the real count we love the immigrants but they have to abide by usa immigration laws the usa has very high amount of people it allows to migrant to the usa legally every year and these immigration laws are going to be enforced make application go back home and come back thru immigration its the fair way for everybody in the usa and from other countries

I'm happy she did well in school I hope she goes far, at the same time why don't the parents apply for citizenship immediately. That means they didn't start applying until she was 10/11 years old.

We should not be granting grants to illegal immigrants and colleges doing this and receiving government funding should be prosecuted fir fermenting this behavior and remove there government funding, we all need to call our congressman and demand that this college do no receive our tax dollares

IMO. There should be a pathway for young people like her to become U.S. citizens. But nothing is free and a pathway should not be available for every undocumented person that crosses our borders illegaly. She’s young, smart, and educated, so there is no question that our country would benefit from her. She’d have to earn too. Would she be willing to serve in the U.S. Armed Services for 4 years in exchange for a green card? Any branches would do. Army, Air Force, Navy, USMC, US Coast Guard. Just do 4 years and get your honorable discharge and green card. A year later she can apply for US citizenship. It’s a sacrifice but you’d earned our respect in serving this country.
I stand with you and from one latina to another I praise you and may God bless you for getting your education and wanting to bring good into this world. Education is one thing no one can take away from you.

Honestly I really hate that people like her parents, which for the record, I have no grudge on a personal level against her and is probably a good kid, though I would actually have to talk to her in a actual conversation to see, because anyone can be in these stories and look like a good guy on the news.
The reason I hate what they did is because for every illegal person the crosses the border, a person that is trying to get in legally, their wait is extended. Plus it is an incredibly dangerous thing to do on account that the border patrol end up seeing tons of bodies of people that were unlucky to drown and the ones who are lucky are either criminals which is usually the case, people that want things spoon fed to them and VERY few try to have a better life, but either way you slice it, it's at our expense.
