Mr.Hoffman is a brilliant actor. He's given us some remarkable, subtle and unsung performances in the past 20(?) years, (ie: Last Chance Harvey") The friendliest neighbor on the beach, (when he 's down here). I.will refrain from repeating anything I've of heard relative to his child like behavior in the first 5 minutes of this interview..The drivel about his first sexual experience wasted @ 5 minutes of what could have been a great profile.
Nothing quite as uncomfortable than sitting thru an interview watching a middle aged man talking like a teenager who is ruled by his raging hormones. I am no prude, but "eh" to all of that. I will get flack for my remark. Most importantly, a superb actor and a very generous man.

Completely agree about Dustin's acting brilliance, generosity, lovely guy overall. His frnds, Mike Nichols, for instance, felt 'twas one of his best, most candid self portraits. But, eye of the beholder, rules every interview. Thnks for tking a look. Plse subscribe for more of my revealing conversations.

@@NancyCollinsGPST @Nancy Collins It was just those 5 minutes that were borderline, "mmm, not so much", for me. I know firsthand of Mr. Hoffman's extraordinary generosity to a really lovely earlier co-star, (who everyone wanted Letterman to marry🙂), & Hoffman's pal who's been quite ill for a long time. While another "wild & crazy" comic actor/star who emerged in the 70's, (ha, my family first saw him in 77(?), open for Helen Reddy in a 2k seat NY suburban theatre), who instead, needlessly REALLY shortchanged her. He knows art & years ago, practically took an expensive piece from her. But, to your point, yes, the "eye of the beholder". When I watch a film, I always think of the writer as the most important and often, most forgotten element in a production's "food-chain". But then an extraordinary director, can bring a great story further. And brilliant acting from a Hoffmsn or an Emma Thompson, can then make a film truly an experience. I won't kp staining your wonderful interviews w/ my insipid posts. I appreciate your "Switzerland- esqe"reply. I also give a nod to you - a writer/ journalist who's talent I envy. I clearly need 5 editors for even one YT reply. "Author Author", (btw, also a great & overlooked Pacino film from 79?l). But forget my feeling embarrassed for D. H. in those first 5 minutes. And as much as I think of Hoffman as one of our finest, his decency & generosity in helping a person/ friend in need, supercedes anything else he's accomplished. "Human kindness, overflowing...", as the song goes, (Midler's version is best).
Txs for indulging me, & hv you ever done a VF piece on Nichols? Wow, there was a brilliant man , RIP. If you have anything on Arty Garfunkel, Charles Grodin & that Olivia Newton-John "all clear from cancer" piece, please upload if, whenever you can. I am glad I found yr. site & truly hv & will continue to tell others to subscribe. Best, to you w/ my sincere thanks. I will ck. to see if you hv a website & if I'm able to purchase any books that you may have published. Thanks, kindly.
