And wait a second: Aren't we told that the great thing about the new regime at MUFC is that professionals (Ashworth, etc.) now decide about the Ins and Outs and the philosophy? Why then should ETH be allowed to build (= sign/ sell) players?
But if you say: No new contract (until maybe this time next year) and (apart from giving his input) no more control about the ins and outs because that's now paygrades above him, then players (or rather: their agents) will be aware he has been demoted (-> player power?) and he would have to rely on his charisma only to save his job.

Most played under him previously yet were ignored or underperformed so far at United.

Mark has a good point. It's nonsense to replace a manager when somebody is not doing any better. Every club undergoes difficulties when club loses important player on the season. For example Liverpool had a hard time last season when they lost Van Dijk for injuries but they are competing for the trophy this season. I still believe with Ten Hag's highest performance when he has correct squad.
I suspect he's been paid by Manchester United to keep saying things in defence of Ten Hag, at least until the summer when the club will decide what to do with him.

De Zerbi‘s team was literally gutted from one season to the next and on top of that they’ve had a lot of injuries to key players. It’s basically an U21 team with Welbeck and Dunk.
