Aloha from Kailua, Hawai'i. Being raised here in Hawai'i I first heard my dad's Kamaka pineapple in 1959 while still in my mothers womb, and grew up hearing my dad play his Kamaka pineapple. I have been in love with this uniquely Hawaiian shape ever since. At one time I owned close to 2 dozen pineapple ukulele but I have reduced this down to 10, all except one polymer outdoors hiking ukulele are pineapples. When someone creates a polymer pineapple my collection will be complete. Being a hapahaole kama'aina I take pride in this Hawaiian invention. Aloha a hui hou.
I love your videos. I am brand new to Ukes and just bought my first one. I went to a couple of stores and every time the salesperson was showing me the different types, I always said I wasn't interested in the pineapple shape. But then I heard a couple being played. I loved the sound so I bought an Ohana PKC-10. I was willing to spend more but to my surprise I liked this one. Love love love it and it really holds it's tuning!
Love the Kamaka look and sound but also very impressed with both of the Pono models. What's not to love about the Kanile'a but rather out of my price range but it is a beautiful thing :) Great job on the videos!
I’ve got a Pono TT8, my first pineapple🍍, also my first 8-string. One thing that doesn’t come across in demo videos is just how much the TT8 sounds like a mandolin😍👍. I liked the Eddy, maybe in something else other than ‘moon’? - it’d look good airbrushed to look like a banjo 😊👍. Tiny Tenor was nice too
I'm not an expert, but the pineapple seemed to be the better of the 2. The sound was more all-around and not as tinkerly as the guitar shaped one. The pineapple had the slightly more " ukulele " sound. There's not much in it, and at the end of the day, though, I would buy the pinapple just on its sound. All of the pineapples I have seen seem to be supranos ( 21 " ). A tenor would be welcome. 🙂
I would love to find an Electric Baritone Pineapple uke. Wonder why no one has built one yet. Would love to hear what this type of uke would sound like.
I have been watching a bunch of Ukulele videos lately and I have noticed that there seems to be very few Acoustic electric Ukuleles. Is there a reason for this?
Been watching you the lefty play right handed ukes. I’m thinking I might be better off playing a left handed uke upside down. It might just allow me to get that D cord easier.
Why are there so few pineapples? The classical guitar shape in a uke seems to be pointless. Pineapple shape is traditional. It must be easier to make, right? What's the deal? Is it just momentum?
Seriously though the reason I haven't is because I'm playing all of these Ukes upside down and it's going to get confusing to show it on a left handed uke for some people.
But , Pono natural varnish it is plastick varnish ☹️ it is very hard job to take a way this plastick varnish , not good ukulele , I am very disappointed for my Pono mango consert 😢
Every Ukulele I can think of has a poly satin finish nowadays except for the Eastmans and Instruments described as being open pore finish. The deluxe models are a thick gloss but I wouldn't say the finish on the satin models is thick at all. much thinner than Kala/Ohana etc. Sorry to read you are not happy.

Beautiful playing, thank you for showing us the pineapples.
Thanks! Love the lutey look and sound of the Romero! Closest thing to my old Fluke I've heard. I love the sound of the pineapples.
Wow, the sound of the Kamaka pineapple is startling. So much volume and punch from such a small body. It almost barks!

Kamaka I’m saving for you 🥰.
Thank you always for your thorough reviews. Ukus are my thing.

Thanks , again, always an education to listen to you. The Kanilea is gorgeous💕🎶
The fluke was sounding better than thought.
Another good one! Liked them all, but the Kanile’a is just beautiful! Serious lust! 😁
This was Amazing and its got me wanting to buy several of these !!!
Thank You !!!!!
i love pineapples, but particularly that Kanile'a - wow! I have a mango Tiny Tenor on it's way, looking forward to receiving it.
Love to know what you think of it now.

Amazing, the best, perfect, keep on working
Some of those Ike’s won’t steal my heart. They will steal my wallet🥰

i would love to hear a pineapple baritone or pineapple tenor with a Baggs or Misi pickup. This would be my next uke.

The Eddy Finn is how I became a uke student.Pineapples are my favorite. I think i will just go all out next year and get a flea pineapple. :)
Hi Alex. Do you have gig bags or hardshell cases for the pineapple ukes? Cheers. 🍍
OHANA UCP-21 and UCP-24 Cases... not always in stock but available periodically. Gigbag wise, if you buy one size up it usually does the trick.
What is the song you play on the ukes?? In particular the ohana series ukes?
Its one of my own called 'walk in the park'. There is a tutorial for it on Ukes With Alex
Wow, that Romero STC really packs a punch!
yes it does.... seems to be out of stock though
Yes it is out of stock right now.

They do

Most people just prefer the look of a conventional shape. I like pineapples but not everyone wants that kind of sound I guess.
Please do a tutorial to your sample play !
Haha, no... It's much more fun when every customer that walks through the door to buy a Ukulele asks me to show them.
Seriously though the reason I haven't is because I'm playing all of these Ukes upside down and it's going to get confusing to show it on a left handed uke for some people.
Think it would only make it more interestig :-)
