Kathy Sledge is an American singer-songwriter and producer. Sledge is best known as the youngest and founding member of Sister Sledge, an American vocal group which is made up of her sisters that formed in 1971.
After achieving success beginning the late-1970s thru the mid-1980s with Sister Sledge, Sledge embarked on her solo career in 1989. She has had several hits on the International Pop and Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, including "Take Me Back to Love Again", which hit #1 in 1992.
Sister Sledge is an American musical vocal group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formed in 1971, the group consisted of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim, and Kathy Sledge. The siblings achieved international success at the height of the disco era. In 1979, they released their breakthrough album We Are Family, which peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and included the 1979 US top-10 singles "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family". A third single, "Lost in Music", reached the US top 40. "We Are Family" earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Working in local radio station, but I found them very amazing
Kathy looks beautiful she always been my favorite. My mother would not let me and my sisters sing. We audition for popular record companies and artist. We passed and wanted to groom us for the answers to the Jackson 5 . My mother said no ,I always wonder sometimes?
Kathy is really wonderful. She has quite the glow about her and I would be jealous of her too. She is the one that had all the talent Reston peace, Joni.

Also, I have a younger brother and I’m the “prodigal son” of our Cain and Abel relationship…all I can say is….Lean into GOD!!!

Kathy uses the name Sister Sledge now too , but she has to put Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge , ,, Everybody loves and respect Kathy. Joni was my 2nd fav , Kim then Debbie.... now its just Kathy and Kim.,,, i still love the old Sister Sledge and thats my favorite group to this day still.
I agree with everything you've stated. I met Kathy in the mid 90s at a previous job and I told her that I still have the We Are Family 8 track tape that still works. Kathy said "What????" I said yeah I still have it. A day or 2 later I brought the 8 track tape to work and put it in my desk drawer in case I see her again. Sure enough I saw her about a month later and I told her I have the 8 track tape and can you autograph it. She said yes I'll do it and she did. She was so nice and I told her a story about her and her sisters back in the early 80s and was cracking up laughing. Love me some Kathy, late great Joni, Debbie, Kim and Carol. 🙏💙

Debbie out there trippin! Kicked Kim out! 😮 so Debbie is Sister Sledge now? It’s sad really. I see Debbie performing in front of crowds of thousands of fans, but I I’m quite sure there are other groups there. “REAL” fans know who Sister Sledge was. And is! Although Kathy was the “Voice” of the group I really wish the other sisters would have had big hits they sang lead on back in the day. Do we blame the big wigs? I still listen to Dream On with Debbie singing lead. That’s my jam! I just wish things had turned out better for them.

Yeah. I know at one point Kim was gravely sick and I thought that’s why she left. I didn’t know she was kicked out. Because I would always see Debbie, Camille (Debbie’s daughter), and Tanya Tiet (Joni and Kim’s replacement) touring as “Sister Sledge”.
Reach Your Peak, Make A Move and I Don’t Want To Say are also my jams!
I used to confuse Sister Sledge with The Pointer Sisters.
Same way I used to confuse The Dazz Band with Midnight Star
but always never confused them with Atlantic Starr.

Kathy's career went downhills after she left SS. The rest of the sisters earned themselves a grammy for African Eyes.
That’s not true because there is no record on Grammy website of them having a nomination for it. They only have a nomination for “We Are Family”
Debbie Has Always Had The Reputation Of Being The Mean Selfish Sister From The Day They First Became Popular/Famous.
She Used To Be MIA A Lot During Performances, If Memory Serves Me Correctly. It Was Said In The Industry That She Was Having Babies During That Time. I Don't Know What's True But She Does Have A Rep For Being The Controlling Sister. In Other Words She Ran The Group. Wit Her Sho Is Beautiful Self..... They're All 4 Beautiful, But That Debbie WOW, Still Is. Blessings To All 3 Of Them. To Joni, RIP Sister 🙏

Something about her never set right with me. I knew it was something but I could never put my finger on it. The other sisters have always come across as very nice women especially Kathy and Kim. But something about Debbie screams selfish to me
Debbie is the mother of 6 children mostly stair-step. From their albums from 1979-1985 Debbie had a baby each album and bounced back into the group.

I think Kathy threw away what could’ve been an amazing solo career. It’s unfortunate that she and her sisters have been beefing for decades but she has one of the greatest voices of our generation. I see Debbie’s version of Sister Sledge consists of Debbie with her daughter and son, Joni’s son and a young lady Tanya. They call themselves Sister Sledge featuring Sledgendary but they can really sing and have very energetic shows in stadiums overseas.
Now I see Kathy’s version of “Sister Sledge” featuring Kathy Sledge. There are these very young girls who are not Sledges and her. It seems that she’s presenting the same thing that she’s complaining about what Debbie’s doing. It feels like she’s doing it out of spite though she has every right to use the name but Kathy it’s been three decades since you’ve released a solo album.

Wow so Debbie did kick Kim out of the group. I noticed she had been gone since 2019. No offense but something about Debbie never set right with me.
She will always be my least favorite. She could sing, but was the worst dancer!
