As a woman who found the courage to leave a monster, I'm so happy she left hers! RIP sister!
Cate congratulations on deciding enough was enough and leaving. It took incredible strength but as I'm sure you now realize, it is worth it and soooo much better on the other side! I'm constantly trying to encourage women to get out before it's too late. This warms my heart. Glad you made it🎉!!!!!
Many people who knew Ike Turner said Tina’s book was largely one-sided and the movie was a soapy fairy tale. Even Tina admitted that the “details” in the movie adaptation were heavily altered. Phil Spector said it was a “piece of trash.”
@@fuchsiaswing8545 Tina said...that her situation was Worst...than the movie portrays...

Congrats, hope everything’s ok now
Wow, he really needed her more than she needed him. It‘s clear here, even 4 yrs. Before she left him. What energy and life she had in her. What a legacy of music she has given everyone. ✨

You know it took mighty courage for Tina to leave her abuser. But once she left she didn’t look back, she didn’t play victim, she just became a superstar. I admire her. Rest In Peace Tina❤
Well said ❤
I hate that expression "play victim". It is umempathetic and cruel. A victim is a victim. Some victims never recover, some do and some just pretend to be better to satisfy judgmental people like you. Stop victim blaming.

Ike should get credit for the music too, just saying, he was band’s band leader and composer
Pushing her hand away😲 like that?!! What a beast. Tina was strong through itcsll. God bless her soul
Yes that was really uncomfortable to watch. It’s national tv too
Can we appreciate how legendary Johnny Carson was as host in this interview. Despite Ike being virtually silence and rudely deflected Tina’s love towards him on-camera, Johnny Carson clearly saw this and did a masterful job of vibing with Tina’s legendary positive energy and carried the interview through. 2 legendary stars: Tina Turner and Johnny Carson, now in heaven together.

The body language is LOUD!!! 😅 Tina pours her entire soul into 2nd performance . Goddess!❤
When she sings, it literally comes straight out of her soul. You can see the tears in her eyes and her expressions on her face. These aren't just words, but she's felt these things. She's truly a warrior queen with a voice like no other. And she remained so positive after all this! Such a sad loss
But as Tina said herself, "after I left him I lived my life & career on my own terms" God blessed Tina Turner for her positive devotion to life<

The ultimate revenge is to be happy I would say she did both she found real love Earwin taught her what real love is and how to truly love herself and what you said too Roger Davies her manager took a chance on a woman in her 40s when others wouldn't because some consider that to be too old and whatever else that business thought of women a certain age they still do today but he took the chance and she showed them all and maybe showed herself . It’s so obvious in this interview that Ike is enormously envious of his beautiful talented wife. You can tell here that what goes on behind the scenes cannot be hidden even in an interview on television. His demeanor said it all. 😢

I love her confidence through it all. That's grace and pure blessing.
I'm so glad Tina found happiness, and is at peace with herself.
Wow. And this was back when an Artist absolutely had to sing live. No lip-singing. No backing track. Even the Ilkettes sung live. True talent. And I know it's unpopular to like Ilk, and what he did and put Tina thru was despicable. But there's no denying the man's talent. Writing and arranging the songs. He really knew how to showcase her raspy voice. I love them 💓
Im, enjoying the song bc it is a favorite of mine, but to know what Ike did, I'm so conflicted I don't know whether to bop along or knock my head in the wall from stupidity bc he was a horrible man.
I know what you mean. It's hard. There goes the question, can you separate an Artist personal life from their creative talent? Kanye, R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, etc
Ike one of the originators of R&R.
That's disgusting how he moved her hand from his..I bet she got slap for touching him..he was not liking that..Tina just laughed it off

She had to work out daily for stamina, as does Beyonce and as Most performers who are serious about their craft. Unfortunately Tina didn't have a choice, Sing or get hit. Sing and still get beat.

I’m watching this for the first time. And she was just amazing! I hadn’t heard of Tina before What’s Love Got to do with it. But I remember exactly where I was when I heard it. I couldn’t be older than 7 at the time, but I remember that song reaching soul. Almost as if the world was perfect for the duration of that song. I couldn’t make much sense of the lyrics I remember. But I found so much comfort in the way she sung that song. Thank you for the talent you shared while facing your own tribulations. Rest in peace Tina Turner (Anna Mae Bullock)
She is one of my favorite singers; so beautiful and classy; if you listen to her talking during the interview she almost sounds like Whitney Houston; plus look at the definition in her arms and shoulders still was like that into her 40s and 60s; what a legend Ms TT
yes she sounds identical to whitney. i had the same thought.
Tina Turner is a R&B singer with a splash of Rock and Roll.. with Pop influence. Whitney Houston was a Gospel singer..with a splash of Pop and Opera. Whitney Houston was a Spinto Mezzo-soprano and Tina is a Soprano... Lowest of Mezzo.
@@gigigiseleworld Tina is Mezzo-Soprano with wide range than Witney
@@Dino-su2wh The reason why people love Whitney’s voice better was because there was no grittiness to it. She sounded very pure and very much like a loud ringing bell. Tina’s voice on the other hand had very good dynamics to it. Not only could she give you gospel. She could give you soul, rock, and pop. Comparisons aside, Whitney is known as the voice solely because it was pleasing to almost all ears. Also because of the way Clive marketed her and the songs he chose. For people who know music theory like you and I. We tend to look past the glamour and public opinion of it all and breakdown what matters most…the music

One of the greatest couples of all time!
Tina Turner was destined for greatness. Such an incredible songstress. Ike Turner was a genius but had terrible demons which put a black cloud over his career as a musician. That second song was crazy.
that black cloud is applied by you, not his music. His music is there to listen to if you put your cloud to the side
@@Captain_Rhodes I’m saying his history of abuse against his famous wife hurt his legacy. I’ve read about people in his circle who stated that these revelations took away from his contributions to music. Unfortunately it is sad because he was brilliant. Dude could write some songs for real. And even Tina Turner stated he gave her a start . But I believe you can agree with me when it comes to how our society is. Ike Turner will be remembered for how he did Tina Turner. Facts. No disrespect to you.
@@selsam7064 ok yes I agree. The reason it makes me angry is because there are many artists who were worse than him who get the respect and love for their work. A good example is phil spector (who worked with them). That guy gets everyone raving about his music to this day (which is cool because it was great) but he has been given a pass for literally murdering his girlfriend! Te guy was crazy and use to point his gun at people back in the days. But nobody cares. I dont like the double standards with Ike. He never killed anyone. Yea im sure he was an asshole on drugs but people in comments are obsessed with acting like hes still beating tina to this day lol. Also if you believe Keith Richards - he said she used to get the better of him sometimes too. Ike came out of the dressing room with a black eye. Tina wasnt some shrinking flower
@@Captain_Rhodes I understand that double standard you are referring to. It's unfair that Phil Spector wasn't treated the same way. But he did die in jail for what he did. I learned of Tina Turner when she debuted in the 80's as a solo entertainer and my mom told me of her history with her former husband. What's Love Got to Do With It really shaped my view of him. Had Tina Turner not become who she is along with the release of that movie, maybe Ike Turner wouldn't have had such a bad rep. I can only assume. All it takes is one negative to negate all the positive.
@@selsam7064 yea that movie is the problem. Even Tina said it wasnt accurate. Im not saying Ike didnt hit her but I think it may have been exaggerated or at least focused on by the film. If you look a bit deeper you will find his family members and other wives supportive of him. There are videos of him playing with his grand children so obviously he was trusted in that regard, at least to some extent. People who got into Tina in the 80's often act like he was talentless and was using her for success which is incredibly stupid. They were a real band and Ike and Tina were the main force in that band. They were a great band too and in my opinion far superior to Tinas solo work. Anyway its not just phil spector who is let off the hook. It is many others. Ike has become a villain of rock and roll like no other. I cant think of anyone who gets more hate other than Gary Glitter. Its double standards
Tina was just brilliant. A rare special talent.

Johnny Carson was so observant. He watched their behavior so closely. He was the undisputed King of late night.
For those who have seen the film What's Love Gotta to Do With it, Brian Gibson did a phenomenal job filming scenes with Ike and Tina on Tour. Whenever the duo did an interview, it was Tina who answered most of the questions. For a man who controlled his wife (verbally and physically), it's interesting that Ike didn't talk a lot in public with Tina.
I feel like I can see contempt in Ike's responses to Tina's comments. He rolls his eyes, shakes his head, pointedly removes her hand from his, etc. His control maybe is coming out in these small body language ways. I felt him to be creepy in this interview (the music is great, though!!).

Unpopular opinion: Ike's music contributions should be kept separate from his personal life and persona. By all accounts, Michael Jackson was a far worse human being than Ike Turner and victimized a lot more people in worse ways, but his music gets played as if nothing ever happened. Ike Turner was one of the progenitors of Rock n roll if not THE progenitor. The success of Rocket 88 caused the producer of that album, Sam Phillips, to have seed money to form Sun Records. Ike was rightly inducted into the hall of Fame in 1991. He was a successful recording artist for over 30 years, which is huge. And won a Grammy as late as 2007.
