Thank you! You inspired me to design a rack in illustrator, buy the metal and make my own. It cost less than $200 and is better than anything I could buy (or afford).
Hard to remember as this was 3 years ago but I’m pretty sure that pile of RHS at the start of the video is two 6m lengths cut in half to get them home.
Hey mate, i sort of eye-balled it. I accounted for enough width at the top to fit the rooftop tent base then just angled down to suit the width of the tray and kinda tried to make it suit the angle of the headboard/cab
Pretty much wanted the top of the tent to sit just above the solar panel on the roof so it’s not too un-aerodynamic when travelling. Still plenty of room in the tray.
Loved the vid, didn't want it to end. Was hoping to see more detail, the fitment of the Kings roof top tent, and set up camping. I'm about to do the same, except for a 7' x 4' box trailer so I can leave the Kings roof top tent set up and use the vehicle. Plan on using 30mm x 30mm galvanised tube 2mm wall thickness. Any tips? Thank you

Mate you can weld straight over that blue paint it doesn’t need to be cleaned up. 🤙 came up pretty sweet
Great small video.
I should give this a try.
Thanks mate
Nice work mate
nice job
Hey mate, what length of steel do you reckon you used on this project?
Awesome execution btw 🙏

I need to learn how to weld for myself.
Hey funny question but how did you work out the angle for the legs ?

@@Kenny_B ahhh true just use the angle there. I started making one tonight and trying to measure out the angles killed me.
I use a cheap digital angle finder from Bunnings. Makes it a bit easier. I think they are like 30 bucks
Any updates on the toy haler canopy?
What size steel is that?
Hey mate, it's 65x35mm (2mm wall)
You know thats weldable blue paint right?
No need to clean it all off.
Was today years old
Nice work gents. How did you decide the height for the RTT?
Pretty much wanted the top of the tent to sit just above the solar panel on the roof so it’s not too un-aerodynamic when travelling. Still plenty of room in the tray.
@@Kenny_B LOL, what do you reckon the un-aerodynamic factor is? :)
Bugger all with this thing me. Sits pretty close to the profile of the car 👍🏼
Did you weld it to the tub or make mounts to put it on?
We welded angle to the legs as feet. Put a little piece of rubber under them and bolted the legs to the inner lip of the tub.
I literally scratched up almost the exact same tub rack just last week on a notepad. Awesome job. What size steel tube did you use?
It’s 65 x 35 from memory. Only 1mm wall thickness but it’s plenty strong enough 👍🏼
@@Kenny_B awesome thanks mate.

Me too!. I am doing three verticals with 2"x1.5" tube and 1.5" square cross bars.
Hey bro do you still have the plans for this as I am looking to do the same thing
Kenny what do you do for a gig?
Originally a fitter & turner mate but just work office jobs now
Is this a pk ranger xlt?
Yeah pretty sure it's a PK
Whats a chance of you creating 1 for me ute? D22 2010
Unfortunately very unlikely mate, way too busy with other projects sorry 😀
Only cans
My twin brother 😜
What roof top tent did you use for this project
This was for a mates car and it was just the Kings soft shell tent
