If you have read anything about permaculture you have probably come across comfrey, a fast growing perennial that is commonly used in fruit tree guilds (companion planting). Its many benefits warrants its use in all garden settings and it is so easy to start from root cuttings!

I took some of mine and filled a plastic barrel and filled it about 65 percent full of leaves and filled the barrel with water covered it and in 2 weeks that water was green and I used it to organically fertilize my garden and when I used it all I dried what was left of the leaves and used for composting

Mandie, Thank you for checking our website out. We will have comfrey available at the end of May into the summer. It is just doesn't warm up here in ND to offer it any sooner than that. Check back at the end of May. I will be happy to help you get some of your own comfrey, it is such a great perennial! I'm going to update that listing because I have had several people confused by it. Thank again!

But plant root spring or fall???
If I plant zone 7 in pot fall will survive only indoor or can plant garden?
NETTLE was notoriously used England 10 to one rotted in water..
Really any plant I think works. I REALLY prefer pokeweed tho. Also, poke Greens constantly sprouting edible super early till 1st frost.

I dug up some Comfrey root, dug a hole where I wanted it, put the root in the hole, filled in the hole, dumped some water on it and forgot it. It is coming up like crazy. It’s a weed.

I am enjoying your video and reading the comments, but am flabbergasted that you’ve only replied to a tiny fraction of the questions - especially where the opportunity exists for you to sell your comfrey cuttings. I hope you are able to remedy this, otherwise, what’s the point of even saying you’re selling comfrey, when in fact you’re NOT.

When taking root cuttings, what is your preferred way of shipping them? Damp peat moss? What should I store my comfrey cuttings in over winter?

We bought 60 acres of land about 4 months ago and found NO comfrey, so disappointing. Maybe they don't grow in the wild and has to be planted but we have lots of other edible/medicinal weeds. So my questions is, if I want tons of comfreys growing in my land for many type of uses including permaculture use, would it makes sense to plant the kind that spread from seeds and not do the Bocking 14 kind?...as long as they both have the same benefit of uses, then I would prefer the kind that spread itself...less work for me...hehe.

If it was me I would still use bocking 14 because even when we think we want an abundance of something there is a point when it is too much and I have heard bad stories about comfrey spreading from seed and taking over. The bocking 14 is really easy to propagate so although it does take some effort on your part, it really is only planting some root chunks. They will grow from very small pieces too. You can have an abundance in no time. :)

So glad you like the video! To answer your question, comfrey likes the sun but it will do just fine with a little shade. It's such an easy to grow plant and so good for your garden and the wildlife! If you need any cuttings we will have some this spring. Thanks for watching!

Hello Cathy! Comfrey needs full sun to part shade and in super hot climates afternoon shade is preferable. Thanks for watching!
