      @@said0757 Hi Said, sometimes probiotics introduce more histamine to your gut, and this can absolutely affect mental health symptoms. Histamine is one of our neurotransmitters. For example, if I take Rx antihistamines, I will become downright suicidal. It's possible that different types of probiotics might be tolerable for you, such as saccharomyces boulardii or a soil-based probiotic. Sometimes, we need to introduce supplements very slowly to give our body time to adapt, as well. Thanks so much for watching!

    I have been taking two fork fulls of Sauerkraut with dinner to help my digestive issues. I've started getting headaches which get worse each day, nausea, cramping, diarrhea, and huge waves of random anxiety and panic. It's been terrifying and stopping me living life normally. Adding Sauerkraut to my diet is the only thing I've changed in the last couple of weeks so I think this may be what I'm expecting but I not having itching or those kinds of symptoms 😩
    I have stopped eating Sauerkraut now so I really hope I feel normal again soon it's been so scary the physical feelings. I had a similar reaction taking the probiotoc alflorax years ago but I never really made the connection between probiotocs and such a severe physical and mental reaction

      Hi Tinyboots, itching and hives aren't the only histamine reactions possible from high histamine foods like sauerkraut. Certainly nausea, headaches, and anxiety are all common as well. SIBO is a common underlying issue with these symptoms, but not the only possible one. The trick is worknig through the possible options to figure out where you can get the most traction. If things don't resolve from removing the sauerkraut, you may need to investigate deeper. Thanks so much for watching, and I'm glad the video was helpful!

    I have been dealing with whole body itching and body breaking out into hives and rashes. My scalp is itchy and inflamed ever since I started using Super Greens probiotic. I’ve been to an allergist and dermatologist several times looking for answers. Initially, doctors were saying probiotics should be fine, but my body has never had this issue before and it’s the only thing I’ve added new to my routine. I’m now trying to clear my body, but my symptoms are still present. My dermatologist said it could take 6 to 8 weeks before it clears my system and returns to normal. I initially started this journey to get healthier and I’ve really debilitated myself. I wish I would have done more research before diving in. I’m so thankful for these videos bc I didn’t know what was wrong for a long time. All I was told over and over was how great probiotics are and no one seemed to know this other dark side to probiotics. But, any advice on how to quickly clear my system?

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  4 года назад +3

      Hi Heather, thanks for watching. Some probiotics do seem to trigger a histamine problem, most often its the lactobacillus-bifidobacteria blends. Saccharomyces boulardii or soil-based probiotics are less likely to do so and can also help repair your gut. A low histamine diet can also help, as well as vitamin B5 and B6 and DAO enzyme, which helps you break down histamine. Binders, like GI Detox (clay and charcoal) can sometimes help, too. Ultimately, repairing the dysbiosis that may be triggering the ongoing problem is important, or sometimes, the underlying trigger is a mold problem in your home or office. But start with a low histamine diet an those supplements to calm down inflammation and get a handle on things.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  3 года назад

      @@thestar2565 Hi, thanks for your question. 1/2 tsp charcoal sounds like kind of a lot...I usually use no more than 2 capsule's worth at a time. I would consider 1/2 tsp a one-time dose in a very acute situation. This could itself be constipating if too much or too frequent.
      Capsules on an empty stomach first thing in the morning or evening is a longer term dose, at least an hour away from other food and supplements. But even this dose can rob your body of important nutrients if constant. And if you are continually needing this dose to maintain your symptom relief, this is a sign that larger issues need to be dealt with. Does that help? Thanks for watching!

    Hi Amanda! I just watched your video on Probiotics and Histamine Intolerance. I definitely think this is what is causing my reactions and looking at the Probiotic that I have been taking for the past year, all of the species that trigger a histamine reaction are in the ingredients list!!! ugh!!
    My questions are -
    1. How long will it take for my body to rid itself of these species?
    2. When should I start taking the probiotic that you recommend?

      Hi Tina, nice to meet you. The length of time to recover, or rather re-form your inner microbiome, depends on your specifics. Most often, it seems to take my clients 3-12 months, depending on a lot of factors. And to answer your second question, you may find that most probiotics are irritating, many with histamine intolerance have trouble in general with probiotics. So you'll test them very carefully to make sure they're working for you. What makes the difference here is using the right strategy to get the results you want. Would it be helpful if you knew how to do this?

    I started taking a custom probiotic blend from a company called Custom Probiotics at a very low dose containing B. Longum and B. Breve. The company advertises itself as producing very potent probiotics. I started have bloating, gassiness, and changes in stool after taking them. I don't think it's a histamine issue as those two strains are supposed to be histamine-safe. Are you familiar with this company? I'm wondering if I should keep trying to take it. My naturopath suggested trying it every other day. Do these sound like normal reactions? Maybe it's too strong for me or maybe it's a side effect of positive changes in my gut. I'm taking strains that I found I was deficient in after taking a gut microbiome test. I was treating for SIBO for a while and now I'm trying to heal my leaky gut and digestion.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  4 года назад +1

      Hi Howard...this can definitely happen with any probiotic... sometimes it's a short term side effect of the shift in the microbiome, and sometimes it can be a reaction to additives or the strains of probiotic themselves. I think your Naturopath's advice to reduce the dose for a while is a good suggestion. You can either open the capsules and take half or quarter, and slowly work back up to the full dose, or take some every other day. And if you continue to have side effects from the probiotic after say a week to 10 days, then I would listen to your body's feedback and try a different product. Since this is a lacto-bifido type, i might suggest trialing the saccharomyces boulardii or a soil-based probiotic instead. Thanks for watching!

    I’ve never had allergic reactions growing up. Within the past 8 months I’ve broke out into hives three different times. • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  2 года назад

      Without knowing more about the ingredients of the various products you mentioned, its difficult to know, but I suspect there are probably high histamine ingredients, like in the keto pancake mix...likely almonds, or often, there are prebiotic ingredients in keto foods, like inulin, or GOS. Or, as with the prebiotics, they are feeding the "wrong" bacteria, and that is increasing histamine. Sugar alcohols, like xylitol and erythritol are often used as sweeteners in keto, sugar free, and diabetic friendly foods, but these sugar alcohols are high FODMAP, and can also increase symptoms.

      Hi Lindy, well, it's possible you don't tolerate that particular prebiotic well, even though it's helping with your gut symptoms, and a different one would help without the side effects. Check the label, and see if you can find a different brand with a different active ingredient and test it out. THanks for watching!

    I ate a pound of sauerkraut from the vegan section of the grocery store because I thought it tasted good. Ended up with diarrhea. A week later I noticed I had eczema. A month later I took antibiotics for a bronchitis infection. The eczema got much worse afterwards . Have not been able to figure out a way to resolve this.

      Hi Joshua, there can be many reasons for your eczema, but the good clue you're clear on is the initial trigger, the sauerkraut. This suggests, as you suspect, that your symptoms started there. Have you done any gut testing, like for SIBO or stool tests?

    • @ConfluenceNutrition

      Hi Izati, this is definitely a question for your doctor, I'm not qualified to advise you on whether or not to proceed. Typically, the providers will ask if you know you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the vaccine, and then they monitor you for 20 minutes after the injection for any allergic reaction. Please discuss with your doctor/nurse practitioner/ physician's assistant, and thanks or watching.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  4 года назад

      Hi Michael, thanks for watching...100 billion is kind of a high dose, so it's possible you had a reaction due to the dose being too high too fast. If you've used the same product before without a problem, the company could have changed the formulation. Is there rice starch in the product, or do they list prebiotic fiber on the label? These can bother some people. Your microbiome may be different than when you first tried these probiotics as well, and may no longer need them. Those are some ideas...

      Confluence Nutrition I Took caprylic acid 600 mg for seven days. Then a week later I try to introduce the probiotics that I’ve used to before and for some reason this time I had a really bad reaction to them.

    • @ConfluenceNutrition
      @ConfluenceNutrition  4 года назад

      @@michaelbernal7403 caprylic acid is an anti-candida supplement, is that why you were taking it? The balance of your gut microbiome was likely in a state of flux. OR, the probiotics themselves were helping to create the change, and this can lead to side effects like die off symptoms. If you want to keep trying those particular probiotics, try a much smaller dose and assess. If you react at any dose, those aren't right for you right now. If you're able to tolerate a lower dose, stay there for a while, and work on slowly increasing, or just stay at that level. I hope that helps!

      Hi Diane, there are two schools of thought about SIBO and probiotics. SOme feel very strongly that you shouldn;t include them. However, there are high quality research studies that show that people who take probiotics are more likely to succeed in sibo treatment. I think this speaks for itself, but the gold standard is always how do YOU respond? If you feel worse on probiotics, then they maybe aren't right. If you feel better on them, or don't notice anything, I think they're beneficial for your gut environment. Thanks for your question, and thanks for watching.
