Feña Mond You’re right! It’s a good reason to hate numbers! I don’t know how they can say them! Me:slowly sounding them out Them: read it in like a second
Hello Arthur, Thank you for your question. It can mean either Second, for example "toista kertaa" for a second time or to repeat. "Toista tämä työvaihe" Repeat this step. I hope this helps you a bit. Let us know if you have any question. Aarni Team FinnishPod101.com
I'm not sure if someone's already answered your question, but the "y" in Finnish is the same as the German "ü", so if the Turkish letter you mentioned is pronounced the same as it is in German, then the answer is probably yes.
Hi. My hat to all of you, who made these videos possible to learn Finnish! My hat to all who want to learn Finnish. More you learn, more difficult it will be. Do not be afraid of my words! To find the correct one of our 15 case endings, maybe a problem in some cases. Examples, which your teacher can explain. “Lennän Thaimaahan”, ”kävin Thaimaassa” “menen hautausmaalle”, “Thaimaassa on kuumaa”, “hautausmaalla on kaunista”, ” hänet on haudattu Varkauden hautausmaahan”, ” oletko matkalla hautausmaalle?”,” Pornaisissa on paljon nähtävää”, ”Raumalla on oma murteensa”, ”hän asuu Joroisissa”, ”Tampereella on Muumimuseo”, ”Seinäjoella on tangofestivaalit”, ”Kemissä on kuuluisa Lumilinna”. Happy learning to everybody!
I am strongly convinced that the finns have already came up with a way to shorten some of these. A bit long ≠ too long. Also, is sata another slavic borrowing or what?
You are absolutely right. There are actually two ways to shorten them. When counting quickly or otherwise listing numbers they go like yy, kaa, koo, nee, vii, kuu, see, kasi, ysi, kymppi, yytoo, kaatoo, kootoo, neetoo, viitoo, kuutoo, seetoo, kasitoo, ysitoo, kakskyt, kaayy, kaakaa, kaakoo, kaanee, kaavii, kaakuu and so on. The other way is pretty similar to what numbers are like in Estonian: yks, kaks, kol, nel, viis, kuus, seittemän/seite, kaheksa, yheksä and kymmentä becomes -> kyt or kytä. For example if you want to say 51, you could say viiskytyks. Sata shares the same root as Russian sto. However, I have no idea how it became part of the Finnish and other Finnic and Uralic languages.

Actually, how to pronounce the letter 'y'? Is that same like to pronounce the letter 'ü' in the Turkish?

Most interesting. The girl looks Japanese and even the language has a Japanese feel at times. Hard to believe this is a European tongue.
It's definitely different. I guess because it's not a Germanic language like a lot of European languages.
Finnish is an "Uralic" language, like Estonian and Hungarian.
In fact it is not, it has asian origins
jesus christ... i think ill use gesture language in finland...
