  • This video talks about the recent press release from Yamaha Pro Audio about the Stagepas 1K MKII and the DXL1K.
    I currently own two DBR10s, a DBR12 and two DXR12 MarkIIs, but may consider the DXL1K.
    I've owned DXR8, 10, 12, 15 and DXS15 in the past so this is where my user base comes from.
    I would consider an EV30 (no M) if they made one.

    I see you also have an Evolve 30m. How would you compare the stagepas 1k to the Evolve 30m for an acoustic/vocal performance?

    • @JHGurganus
      @JHGurganus  Год назад +2

      I had an original 1K years ago but I returned it because it didn't project as far as I wanted it to - probably because of it's 170° dispersion so no fault of its own it was by design of course. I picked up a DXL1K after it came out with high hopes but returned that as well because I felt that it would limit way too early. I tried the 30m after that. The 30M so far has had plenty of power and really has only limited when I was testing its limits. The throw or projection seems to be further to me.
      Though I am a big fan of Yamaha gear, I could not get along with their column systems and the 30M has worked out better for me. Hope that helps!

      @@JHGurganus nevermind, I see you're a player. So are you saying the 30m is actually louder than the new Yamaha units?

    • @JHGurganus
      @JHGurganus  Год назад +1

      @@shannonadkinsmusic5767 unfortunately I never had them side by side but, based on my testing the way I use them, I felt the 30m was either just as loud or louder mid / hi frequency wise. I'm sure the 1k would get louder low frequency wise. I just wasn't happy with guitar / vocals thru the DXL1K. Maybe I had a bad one?? I just didn't feel the output was there for my use so I couldn't justify the extra weight of it either.

    Hey, pal. Did you eventually buy one of these? I'm looking to upgrade my column array for solo acoustic guitar/singing gigs in noisy, small to medium bars/parties/functions.

      Yessir I did. I bought the DXL1K but unfortunately had to return it a couple of days later. I ended up buying an EV evolve 30m for the same type gigs that you cite. I've had 4 gigs with it so far and, although I've not had to push it yet, I'm quite happy with it. I have pushed it outdoors though just testing it out and I'm happy with its output so far.

      @@JHGurganus I have the RCF Evox 8. It has no built-in mixer. I'm never happy with the sound of my acoustic guitar. I have an LR Baggs pick-up installed in it and it's a great guitar, but I'm wondering if I should get the new Bose L1 Pro 8. That has the mixer on board already. Do you have any videos or experience with the latest L1 Pro 8??

    You realize with the StagePas 1K, you can run it just with a outboard mixer, right? You just plug into the "link in" instead of a channel.

    • @JHGurganus
      @JHGurganus  2 года назад

      Yes I do realize that and I did try it with an outboard mixer as well.

    YAMAHA stagepas 1K mkII - 1100 W (Subwoofer: 500 W, Line array speaker: 600 W) - 125db
    YAMAHA stagepas 1K v.1 - 1000 W (Subwoofer: 810 W, Line array speaker: 190 W) - 119db
    I found this difference beetween them. So can anyone explain what can be the result of these changes?

    • @JHGurganus
      @JHGurganus  2 года назад +1

      Yeah interesting the top has more advertised power this time. Usually the compression driver / tweeter is less power. When I had my original 1k briefly, the bottom was really strong. Hopefully this change keeps the lower end power but maybe it's tuned for noticably stronger mid and high frequencies compared to the original.

      @@JHGurganus I have Yamaha 1K v.1 and my problem is power output is not enough for LIVE performance. I have main output at full and also channels on full load and that is not good. So I will sell it and buying the new one, I hope it will be better.

    • @JHGurganus
      @JHGurganus  2 года назад +1

      @@sobota.happy.academy I hope the new one will be better too. Yeah that's sad unfortunately and that's one of the reasons I had to return my original 1K. A friend of mine came over and we took it outside and we each took turns playing and singing through it using the onboard mixer. He told me at one point there was a very definite drop off and it seems like our inputs were near their max at that point and it wasn't very far as I remember. And as I remember, it seemed pretty easy to hit the limit or clip lights as well using the onboard mixer. It also seems like I may have got more output using an outboard mixer but I can't remember for sure and I'm sure it frustrated me because that would have defeated the purpose of me buying it in the first place.
      At this point I have high hopes for these new ones coming out. Hope they come through! I haven't committed to buying one yet and every time I get frustrated over a column array I just tell myself point source boxes are where it's at.

      Sorry again JHG, it's just I really wanted to hear a view on the Yam Stagepas mk 2.
      I heard it against the EV 30 at my nearest Music Store in a Sound Room. Both came out of a sealed box and the guy played a variety of sounds via Bluetooth, switching between the two.
      First impression was the EV sounded better but after a while and a track of electric acoustic guitar and voice came on, the Yamaha really took over.
      After a while I found that the EV sounded a bit muddy, whereas the Yammy was bright and out there with the highs and very decent 12" lows.
      All settings were flat so assume you could probably dial in some improvements to your taste. I didn't have time to mess with it as Store was closing.
      So am ordering the Yamaha today : )
      Can't wait to find out.
      A message to Dogman below:
      In the review DHG did mention another good review by Angry Tech Bloke (or something like that) who said:
      "No highs no lows,
      It must be a Bose".
      I find that's true, after a while I find Bose are boring.
      Also, my experience in the past is that speakers need running in. Both examples were straight out the box so can only get better.
      Also everybody's ears are different. Mine were shot to pieces aged 16 when sat on the edge of a stage in front of the left side PA Stack and Cream came on stage.....*hit!
      And another time very early Led Zeppelin. Got knows why am buying a PA System.
      Sorry again,
      DH

      @@davidhampshire3762 No problem at all. Not sure if you watched my other videos but I did end up purchasing the DXL1K but unfortunately I was not happy with it and had to return it. Ultimately I bought an evolve 30m and then purchased a second one. With my testing in my studio and outside, the evolve just seemed to have more output which is what I was ultimately looking for - plus it is of course lighter. I wanted to like the DXL but unfortunately it didn't work out - at least to my ears. I also bought a stagepas 1k in the past but was not quite happy with it unfortunately. And this is coming from a Yamaha fanboy.
      It's been a few months and a handful of gigs but I still find it hard to fully trust the evolves. That's just because I, like most people, have been so used to point source boxes for a long time. I find them a little easier to dial in a good sound. Matter of fact with my Yamaha DXR stuff, I really don't even have to worry about too much about the way things sound out front once I dial in my EQ.
      Anyways, for me it seems to be a never-ending journey on gear. Who knows what I will have the longest and who knows what I will sell off.
      Good luck with your new stagepas and hope it works out good for you! Honestly I like the mixer on it with the physical controls without having to menu dive.
