Good morning sir, yeah that 2840 brings back lots of memories. We had one when I was growing up. I always carry a little 516 in 12 point wrench in my pocket. When I got on it I turned it up then always before my dad got on it. I had to turn it back down one day. I didn't get it. Turned back down and my dad got on it and he said what's happened to that tractor. That thing takes off like a rabbit with a beagle behind it. He had it on a two-row papec chopper so make a long story short. He said just leave it there will run it to it blows up. Believe it or not that tractor we got 12,000 hours on and it was still running strong when we sold it. That's one of the best motors John Deere s ever made
A little tuning and some artificial atmosphere went a long way on that little bugger, knocking at the door of doubling her ponies! If’n my pockets weren’t so full of holes, I’d send this lazy Ol 4240 over and have y’all put a little more twist in her tail…. Perhaps it’s the powershift, but she doesn’t seem to have much more pep in her step than our venerable Ol 4020 to my think’n! As for that tire, I wouldn’t rush into replacing it. I’m think’n she’s got a few more revolutions in her! Bless’ns to the lot of ya’s, Tedd

Yes Mark, On some tractors it is, and the 2840 is one. Though we farmed for 20 years with a turboed 2840 and never had any problems, the hi-lo won't take too much over factory HP, l am going to turn it down to around 100-105 after the pull at the co. fair. Others models can take quite a bit of HP over stock and do fine.
Got a,2840 . this engine was bored to 359 after the 2840 series, which they turbo on few tractor, mine as is dyno at 96, now how do you keep it cooled , the engine on the 2840 is not equipped to run a oil cooler. Many turbo the 4020, got much more horse but reduced the life of the engine unless you changed out a few things. Excessive heat will kill a,engine!
This tractor is not used for heavy loads over a long period of time, and it hasn't had any excessive heat problems yet, the owner knows to keep an eye on it. Thanks for your comment.
I absolutely love your videos and fool with nothing but 10-55 series John Deere tractors but he is waiting his time with the 2840, one of the worst tractors John Deere tractors ever built, in stock form they have tons of transmission trouble, I'm a die hard Deere fan, but not a 2840
Hey Brian! I've heard lots of guys saying the 2840s had some weak points, and l'm sure they do, but we farmed with a turboed 2840 for 20 years and never had a drive train issue. l'm thinking some areas of the country the guys must run 'em harder than we do. Thanks for your words of experience.

Yeah that 2840 and a 4020 or the two main tractors we had later on. We got a 986 international but that 2840 could keep up with a 4020 on a 418s plow

I know this is a year old. What did you use for the Turbo/Manifold. I would like to turbo my 2840.
