Uhhh, I think you messed up the terms, Sociopaths are usually the more impulsive and aren't born with the disorder, while psychopaths are pretty much born with it, or it can also be caused by trauma, I've been doing research for those stuff and I just felt like saying this, nice theory tho, keep up the good work!
According to Gooseworx on Tumblr, Jax and Ragatha are sort of sharing ep 5 and 6 to develop their characters so I'm excited to see them on a deeper level. Also Glitch seem to be intentionally shrouding Jax's character in mystery (relating to the pin backgrounds) so I'm more intrigued to see what his deal is.
I have loved jax since the beginning, and never went back on that (unlike a rather large collection of people after episode 2...). I don't know if i believe that jax is a sociopath or psychopath. I think he's just immature, and a heavy masker. Plus, I think there are more moments where his mask slips, especially in ep. 1. Firstly theres the moment where he slides into frame next to pomni, says something about kinger being "craaaazy", and then just before he slides out of frame again, theres a weird moment where, at least in my interpretation, his mask drops. Then theres the moment when they're walking down the hallway, pomni gets the squiggly eyes and is dissociating after ragathas spiel, and jax taps her on the cheek, to snap her out of it. Then of course theres his true fear showing as he's confronted with an abstracted kaufmo, and then he just fully runs away, so fast he leaves a dust cloud behind. Then theres the moment when he arrives at the zooble hole with kinger and gangle, to which he seems to be semi nice to them???? or at least he's too tired/scared to have the energy to be mean to them for a moment. Theeeen theres the moment in the gloink cave where he sees the glitching gloink (which suggests the gloink has been in contact with kaufmo) behind him and does the shifty eyes. Then when kaufmo crashes down through the ceiling of the cave, he again looks genuinely fearful. Now to me, all of these moments have one key theme in common: Abstraction, or going "crazy" which leads to abstraction. truthfully I think jax is terrified of abstraction. Which would make sense, its their closest approximation to death, but jax especially so, so much so that he runs away in the face of it. He doesn't want people to know how terrified he is, but his fear of abstraction is strong enough that it causes that mask to slip. When the moment of kaufmos funeral happens and theres that flash of sadness, The way I see it, it could also be fear. His pupils shrink, which is usually a sign of fear or anger, but not sadness. He's fearful because he's yet again reminded of the fate of abstraction that looms over all of them. He doesn't go to the funeral because its a constant reminder of abstraction, and he knows he can't uphold his mask through that, and therefore he goes and hides instead. My interpretation is that jax is a coward, but he just doesn't want other people to know that, so he upholds this strong facade until he can't anymore. Any moment of vulnerability is his worst nightmare, so of course he hates being tied up in ep 3. So of course he's terrified when he's grabbed and held down in ep 4, and most importantly to him, he asks if no one can see it. He's more concerned about people seeing him in a moment of vulnerability and powerlessness, than he is about actually being manhandled and tortured. And I think that says a lot about him. I could ramble on about jax forever jdskdk I think he's a very interesting character and i'm soooo excited to see what goose has in store for him in the next few episodes.
i like your theory. it ties a lot of things together. however i'd also like to note that he was likely there in the digital circus for a few years himself too. like, say, when he was 17 - 20 years old. people can be in bad positions even in that point of their lives depending on their environments. maybe he never was in tune with his emotions, maybe he never quite understood others emotions, simply because of how he grew up as well. gooseworx confirmed that they do indeed remember their past lives before the circus just not their names. in episode 3 when Pomni says she feels like she's gonna die, Jax interrupts Kinger by saying "or you could toughen up!" this could easily foreshadow a few things. he does not like being vulnerable and "toughens up", and might be irritated when others don't do that. he might feel obligated to never let his guard down simply because he hasn't quite gotten enough time to grow and identify emotions well. also! for a teeny bit of evidence or, something, not really evidence but goose has yet to mention Jax's past of any sorts. she has said he likely had an emo phase but that's about it. every other character has shared a tidbit of their past. [Pomni doing accounting, Kinger doing computer science i uh believe, Zooble was a tattoo artist, Gangle was a shift manager at one point and wants to release a manga inspired webcomic and Ragatha had horses. we know nothing about Jax] this could imply that he did *not* have a great childhood and goose is going to drop to bomb in his episode or perhaps sooner or later. i dunno but i am pretty convinced bout the whole kaufmo thing. UGH im just excited for this guy to fucking cry already those eyes were made for crying

I have a theory on Jax:I’m not super confident but here it goes: I think Jax is trying to get everyone abstracted but doesn’t want to. Let me explain: while gooseworx said something like he wouldn’t intentionally cause someone to abstract,I think this isn’t true as goose has also confirmed she likes to lie. Goose has also confirmed tho that tadc is based off of “I have no mouth,and therefore I must scream” The book is basically about people being stuck in a video game,and you have to kill everyone to escape or something like that. Now as far as we know,no one can really die in the circus,but abstraction is as close as you can get. I think Jax figured this out,and is simply trying to escape,even though he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. This is why he acts the way he does with everyone,he’s trying to toy with them phsycologically. I think that’s also why he shows emotion and regret sometimes. And I think he abstracted Kaufmo,which is why he shows guilt in that scene. Goose was also asked about what kind of ending tadc will have,and only responded with a mischievous Jax drawing. While it could just be that Jax is the most mischievous one,I think it could be proof of the ending with Jax abstracting everyone and escaping. jax was immediately my favourite character (i love bad characters and its michael kovach so of course he’s awesome) i really love how he kinda detaches himself from the reality he’s in. i’ve picked up on this because i’ve done the same, but he’s viewing everything as entertainment, while other characters treat this world like their real life. he’s super interesting and a great representation for sociopathy.

Jax really seems to be sociapathic, but doesn't seem psychotic al all, he seems to have a more firm grip on "reality" than most of the cast. Kinger might be the only slightly psychotic character, dementia can sometimes cause psychotic symptoms.
Jax definitely has made at least one or two previous cast members abstract. Also I honestly wouldn't think him unlikely to take a psychological swing at elderly women, especially if they pose a threat to his superiority complex. I mean, we clash with older folks all the time. It's not hard for one to get on your nerves, and it doesn't seem like you even have to do anything to get on Jax's bad side, so imagine if he came up against a woman old and experienced enough to stand up against people like him. Someone wise enough to point out his flaws and expose him... But personally I don't think he was responsible for Queenie's abstraction, ultimately. Not because of the age difference and the possibility of him having respect towards the elderly (which idk why anyone would think he does, he straight up calls Kinger loopy and never cares to get close to the guy) but because I'm of the headcanon that it was the horrors of the circus itself that mainly contributed to her abstraction, specifically the loss of some people very dear to her. Idk why my brain is convinced Kinger and Queenie had kid(s) that were dragged into the circus with them (or even worse, they watched their kids get sucked in and went after them), but I feel like it would make the most sense in the case of things getting that bad for the couple. From there it could be just one high tension argument between the two that would have been the tipping point for our dear Queenie, thus why Kinger feels guilt about it and tells Pomni not to make others feel worthless (as well as some other clues to hint at this possibility but I'm rambling too much). Maybe Jax caused those abstractions but I have a feeling those happened long before his arrival. Anyway i spent like half an hour going on this tangent, imma go sleep
