Not just males. We have a female Midland Painted turtle. We know because she lays eggs. She does this with a spherical lead weight hanging in her tank. Daughter found her in nearby creek, stuck in a drain. Not native to CA and never reported as invasive, so perhaps a former pet.

Guys. the turtle's claws are different. pay attention to that. Ones claws is longer than the other, therefore that one is Glen, the male, Maggie is the one with the shorter claws. This is the mating dance, because I have a male and female and they do this, then they end up mating afterwards. This can be also seen as aggression if it was between two males, but, clearly, I can tell that the short clawed res is the female while the longer clawed res is the male.
What type of fish do you have in there with them may I ask? I have 2 sliders and one painted southern and I found I can put fish in there possibly for food and maybe a beta or gold fish but this didnt look like those I love your turtles so beautiful did you get any babies form6 them

My red ear slider is about 4 years old I have 2 river cooter turtles but they're babies about a year or 2 and very small still well the red ear one was doing this to one of that babies and I'm afraid he's going to get frustrated because the babies aren't old enough yet and probably won't go for it 😬
Maybe some other males should take note of this. Follow her around, be interested in what she's interested in, make eye contact for awhile, caress her cheeks, flap your fingers on her head and face, move in for a kiss, and then go back to her place.
