  • When the war in Ukraine escalated in february 2022 with the invasion of Russian forces, Semin Yildiz quit his job and joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces. With his previous military experience in the Swedish Army, Semin took part in heavy fighting around Kyiv and Irpin, surviving Russian artillery barrages and street fighting.

Small note: It's not "swedish cotton", he says he packed "swedish wool". After watching this I admit I'm very impressed with the clarity and detail. Kudos to all involved in the making of this och ett innerligt tack till Semin. Slava Ukraini.

Happy to see he made it, it was not until I got home 3 months in the war I ever found out how it went for him. My honor to have met him for a few days at Javoriv, before it got hit by Cruise missiles.

Since the start of the war the swedes have exposed themselves as very serious warriors. From the famous story of a swedish submarine sneaking past US Aircraft Carrier strike groups defenses and sinking multiple Aircraft carriers during training exercises to the success of the saab fighter jets and now thier willingness to join NATO and refuse to sit idly by as Russia murders it's way through Europe. As an American in proud to call sweeden an ally. That Swedish attention to detail and organization isn't only good for making furniture and rock music.

    Dear Semin Yildiz,
I've never ever heard a 1st-person account of *any* military involvement like what you offered here - and I've been around for everything America has done since Viet Nam. I was captivated by the occasional flashes of your wry sense of humor as much as I was absolutely glued to your spare storytelling.
    .
I wish the world did not need your commendable skills.
But since we do, I feel a little safer - and I'm sure all of Europe feels similarly - knowing people of your professional and capable caliber are watching the areas where Putin's forces are trying to take territory that is not theirs, as they did with Chechnya - and then Georgia - and then the Crimea.
    .
    Thank you for your recollections.
    Slava Ukraini!
    .
    .
    Edit:
This made me giggle out loud, for real - and I'm still grinning as I type these words:
22:56: "Go check if there is mines. And if you see tank, **** tank."

If you liked this then you are in for a real treat if you check out the Chanel "speak the truth" he's a US veteran who has been doing daily briefings on the war in Ukraine. Just a couple weeks ago he had on his show a us marine who just returned from fighting in Ukraine. The 3 part podcast is unreal to listen to. The Marine had a great sense of humor and a great knack for story telling. He did voices for each different man in his platoon lol by the end of it you felt like you knew each guy. Some of the highlights are when he talks about holding down a house for a week straight on the front lines and how they would use the kitchen table to prepare their anti tank weapons, javelins, stingers RPGs. And then venture out and look for Russians to kill and then run back to the house. Or how the Russians would see them in the morning and they would see the Russians but there was a gentleman's agreement that they wouldn't shoot each other before breakfast. Or how there was an unwritten agreement that Noone would shoot anyone who was taking a shit by themselves in the woods. This way all the soldiers on both sides knew that they could at least have the decency of taking a shit without worrying about getting killed with your pants down. It's amazing.

There is no mistaking the fact that man was in combat, you can almost feel it through his voice, war is hell! No soldier wishes for war, only grey-haired elites, military industrial complex, and hapless government officials want or wage wars, how else can they consolidate power, and make money so easily! Only on the backs of soldiers and dead civilians is this possible!

Even this brave and competent soldier will one day be gray and old ... There's an important difference between attacking innocent people and defending democracy and freedom, against an evil maniac like putin!
Without the military industrial complex capable of manufacturing state of the art arms and weapons, even the best soldiers among us will be helpless.

This is by far one of the best and most authentic depictions of what happened in the early days of the war. He is not embellishing any of the details and he is being extremely factual. If this had been released months ago it would have not been good for the Ukrainians but it was a fact because the Polish volunteers had a very similar experience and they were restricting what they were saying on social media. Because I am Polish I couldunderstand everything & it was obvious that there was absolute chaos in those first months. That facility that was bombed in Lviev was because of a saboteur who infiltrated the training camp posing as a foreign volunteer. You can tell the frustration that so many of the authentic experienced fighters felt at the massive chaos and corruption (yes corruption) that prevailed in trying to acquire and use appropriate arms in the battles at the front.

May all who passed rest in peace. May all who are injured recover swiftly and smoothly. May the immeasurable light of compassion alleviate all the sufferings caused by this senseless war so those who are suffering will feel less/no pain. Thank you for your conviction and bravery!!
