Adam Filinovich did see crocodiles at Winn Dixie? Don’t fall for their scam if they tell you they can bring you to a free buffet. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Coverage of this was on CNN.
I would love it if this became a regular thing, like "Let's Make Something This Summer 2020." I could see this becoming an annual fixture, the "Season of Something," like Nanowrimo (you can make anything at any time, but it's nice to have a fixed period to work on it, and summer is as good a time as any).

I made my first dress. Felt like giving up quite a few times and only got to wear it twice because the weather turned unbelievably bad but I'm really happy with it ❤
So glad to see someone who made something physical and tangible. I am all for the writing and media centered creativity also… But tangible things are something I connect with more, and I’m glad to see someone took that as an inspiration!
@@wittykittywoes if you're asking about my sewing, I still do it, have invested in my own sewing machine and I'm currently working on a dress to wear to my friend's wedding. I love my new hobby, could spend hours doing it ❤
Hey that's at least a step forward! I wanted to do the same thing this summer but realized I first had to write a script so I spent the entire summer painstakingly outlining a comic script to the best of my abilities. I didn't even finish the outline......but that's okay! A step forward is a step forward.
Congrats to both, I also want to make a comic butI started a job and after these last months I finally had a decent plot line idea. The best of the lucks you two!
Trust me.... laying the groundwork is always more important than the big picture. A large project can’t take shape without understanding and mastering the basics first. I know that isn’t fun or acceptable in this modern day of “instant gratification”… But it’s very important, and it’s why folks fantasize about The bespoke way of the past. Keep it up, you made the right choice! It’s more impressive that you found the need to stop and learn something basic before progressing to something you weren’t ready for. Self-control is the foundation for creativity
Two months late but do you have any tips on how to improve your drawing skills? So far what in doing is just drawing as much as possible but are there any specific tips you can give?
This summer I started making a webcomic. I actually almost forgot about this challenge funny enough. While I haven't finished this project, I'm glad I actually started it in the first place. I've always wanted to work on a project like this for a while but it really wasn't a lack of motivation that stopped me but the fear of failure. What I've learned is... if you have a project you want to start working on, just do it! You won't learn or get better unless you start.
I worked on a book and a stage play. I have not finished either of them by summer's end. Some personal life stuff got in the way. But I'm still working hard, and the play nearing completion. Thank you Austin you gave me a good kick in the pants, I needed that.
Perhaps that could bring some of his followers to take up the unfinished idea ,get some inspiration and finish it in their own way/style. Maybe there is one idea or the other the world needs to hear about.
Austin, Thanks for sharing our channel and the Chlorine trailer! Without the summer video, we wouldn’t have even attempted to make this film. For that, we’ll always be thankful, and we really appreciate the time you took to share everything about our film. It’s really interesting that everyone can keep each other motivated. The internet is an amazing place and you have created an amazing community of people here.
Your videos are honestly some of the most encouraging and inspiring when it comes to making content, especially your projects like this. I've had an idea all summer for an album/rock opera/comic (???) and it took me all 3 months to finally materialize in my head the concept I was gonna chase and pursue. Your efforts as well as your admitting to shortcomings reminds me that bumps in the road aren't the end and that I should keep pursuing my creative dreams. Thank you, Austin.
I was instantly inspired by the video, and tried to focus on a story I was writing, but ended up writing a couple of chapters on that, a few rough sketch comic book issues, and finished 3 full drawings. I started with one thing, and finished everything but. Thanks Austin.
I feel that, man. Life is hard now, might even be shit for a while still. But trying to get through it is better than giving up. You're not the only one who struggles, even when it sometimes feels that way. You're not alone
I started learning javascript and got so involved that when I saw the notification I was like " hey that's why I started in the first place " so thank you so much for that push .
I love the way you utilize your reach on RUclips, and I really commend and thank you for all of the connection I feel from you constantly putting forth your passions into your videos for your audience. I really want to see you keep this (or any other) major platform and continue to use it to the full potential, because your content isn't just something to watch, it's something that truly inspires people and makes us feel far less lonely.
I was going to mention that for summer I wanted to get permanent work (apprenticeship instead of Uni). I did it, I traveled a lot for interviews, and ended up having to balance three jobs (one part time) for a couple days and balancing two jobs for a month. Anyway, I did my summer goal and got an amazing placement (hard but enjoyable work), thanks for the courage and help with your amazing videos and stay awesome!
Unfortunately this summer I started a writing project but quickly lost interest/motivation/ideas. I know that in order to get there I need to be working on it but RUclips and video games get very tempting. I want to learn to balance "work" projects (art, writing, creative stuff) with "fun" projects (social media, video games) but so far I haven't really been able to. I'll be pushing for the project again this fall. I highly doubt I'll finish it but I want to at least make progress.
Thanks to your summer drive I learned c++. And I pretty much finished my website though it will never be truly finished, theres always more improvements.
Thanks for pushing all of us to be better Austin. The inner struggle is real but it is a lot easier to take on when we have others encouraging us to keep creating. I will be sure to send you some of my projects from the fall!
I shot an improv short film that I was really proud of until I got around to editing. I dropped the project and it really discouraged me from continuing to pursue a career in film. But after watching this video I wanna give it another shot. Your videos always inspire me. Thank you.
Editing after shooting something can be daunting, it's a different animal, sometimes it's nice to have some space between to switch gears, get into a different head space. I hope you approach it with a new vigour now that you've got the bug for it again :) All the best to you.
I restarted a project about 3 months ago. I have been working on and off on an original boardgame and just entered the play testing phase. Sooo close to being ready to publish! But to get here I also learned the basics of working in CAD and 3D printing which I had no experience.
Dude, im argentinian, and i am studying everything i can to become a film maker. Seeing you is inspiring and it helps me to be brave and dont fear to fail. Cheers from Buenos Aires.
Well at the beginning of the summer i had 7 subscribers, now with alot of learning, training and more videos on my channel, i have 79 at the moment. Been making new friends, supporting others, watching some great videos from channels like VID IQ, also i've actually editing some old videos that were just sitting there on my laptop and improved them to release on my channel, and even joining some discord servers and joining twitter for the first time in my life to promote my channel Currently on the path to 100 , hopefully i can reach it before the end of 2019. This probably wouldn't be possible without your summer video. Thank you so much Austin for giving me motivation for the summer and giving us something to do over the summer. Myself and all of us really appreciate what you've done. And now i can't wait what i can do for the rest of the year with my youtube channel and beyond😀😀😀😀👍
My fall project is to practice making digital music, with my goal being at least one full song done by the end of the season, AND THIS TIME I AM DETERMINED TO DO IT! I already have being working on it.
I spent the summer dragging through a horrible falling out with my best friend. Still reeling from that, but I'm trying to come back and get back to work on my projects. Got a few ideas rolling around in my head again, maybe a bit too big in scope to be done by the end of fall, but here's to hoping I can at least get them off the ground!
I love seeing how many people accomplished their project goals! Austin, your video inspired me to make my first cosplay! It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be and I got to run around the September Nerd Expo as Princess Mononoke! Thank you for giving me that final push I needed.
yo because of that original video you posted I made a TTRPG for me and friends and it was MASSIVE. alongside that, I also started learning animation in my free time. I'm also now starting my fall projects which are redoing old crappy TTRPGs from the past and giving them a fresh polish. I'm also really gettin into doin art and I've come a long way already. thank you miss Austin
I had a book idea for years and I started really trying to flesh out the world with it and what I wanted from it. And now, it's no longer a book about a single location but an RPG campaign across several locations. (This is after my wife jokingly told me to make it a DnD campaign and have the players write it for me.) And the whole idea has evolved into making our own tabletop RPG system and my story (after a mini-campaign as a test run) will christen the system on it's maiden game. It's still being worked on and we're pulling inspiration from things like DnD, Monster of the Week, and Super Normal. But I want tabletop gaming to be more accessible with this. Hopefully everyone will get to see it one day.
I finished a 3D project I had been avoiding for ages as my Winter Project, thanks for the inspiration and these success stories and your encouraging words are great!
The video at the beginning of the summer was part of the inspiration for me starting work on some custom lighting and motor control software as a way to get myself out of a manual labour job
I finished school, got my drivers license and learned a lot of programming that I will be using in a couple of projects I already had in mind for like 4 years
Oh man now I wish I had emailed you. In case you happen to read this, your summer project video directly inspired me to go from 0 music creation experience (and a few months of prior piano lessons) to releasing a 5 track EP. It really is all about deciding instead of just thinking about doing this, I'm just going to do it. Today. And making and sticking to a deadline. Thanks for being that motivation for me. My EP isn't great by any means, but I'm way further along my creative journey today than I was 3 months ago.
I didn’t follow this challenge, but I spent this summer worldbuilding, writing, and sewing. I’m a third of the way done making a corded petticoat, I’ve begun embroidering curtains (it’s gonna take years, but they’re gonna look like Medieval tapestries), the novels I’m working on are coming right along, and the worldbuilding those novels showcase is incredibly fun! Also, I’m practicing drums/violin/guitar/piano/plucked psaltery again, making sure my voice stays in shape, and learning to play the banjo (after banjo, I’m gonna try accordion and hurdy gurdy).
Hey Austin! Watching all of your videos and loving them regardless of the topic. My favorite one was your list of books you read in one year. Please consider doing a new one! Thanks and keep up the great work! God bless!
Just finished work on me and my friend's most recent game after it blew up on steam and started working on my next game! Met a couple people wanting to get into game development from that release that joined our community discord and now I'm having to learn how to manage an actual team. Its pretty cool to have a project that has tens of thousands of people after all our previous titles, just gunna keep working at it.
Definitely didn't quite make the mark on my summer goals but I did learn a lot. Most importantly, I am determined for the seasons to come. Already have a goal list made lol. Thanks Austin for your encouragement and genuineness. Keep rocking it dude. 👍
austin, mid development hell is so real man. its the time where the novelty of an idea wears off but its not near completion enough for you to see the fruits of your labor. you just gotta keep pushing my dude
I watched this on the 4th week of school so I need to focus on school and homework. I cant wait till next summer. I hope I come back to this video and maybe do something productive. Thanks for the motivation!
I finished my intro scene for a visual novel I'm making! I'm honestly really proud since I had to draw all the scenes, make environments and make the music by myself. Though I spent around 3-4 months planning and doing it. As long as you keep at it and make steady progress and are still passionate about it, it doesn't really matter how long it takes.
In true procrastinator fashion i said id do it in fall. But in actuality i just spend summer thinking about plotlines, themes, structure of 4 ideas i have. A book, 1 film ( might try to crowdfund it), a show idea I can hopefully pitch, a movie i could only do if i had a whole studios budget, and a video ideas to start up my main channels videos
3:23 These guys actually saw one of the short films I posted on Reddit and gave me some tips! They even subscribed to me I think which is pretty cool lol. Glad to see they're getting attention from you, Austin, they deserve it.
Please do this telling-people-to-do-summer-slash-seasonal-projects thing more often! I'd love to see a yearly thing so I could have another chance of taking part in it with everyone else. I know I shouldn't need a RUclipsr to tell me to make something, but it's something slightly more organized like this that can help people like me sometimes.
i unfortunately wasn't able to complete my project thing over the summer, but i did actually get some work on it due to your video! i feel like i'll actually be able to get something nice finished eventually just due to that sort of initial kickoff, so... thanks, austin!
today was my last day at the internship at a major healtcare/tech company. not much creative work it might seem, but i had to creativly navigate through all the setbacks. and the "product" actually worked fine in the end ... 3/4 of the internship consisted in setbacks, last 1/4 of it getting my solution ready to work :-)
I spent my summer learning how to use Famitracker, a program used to create 8 bit music that can be played on retro hardware. It's been an experience to learn how to make music with these kinds of limitations and it's made me more well rounded as a whole I'd like to believe.
I have been working on an RPG game with some of my friends, we started before the summer started, and we haven't finished it yet, but I got some work done during the summer. I am the pixel artist on the team, and I made a Logo, a couple tiles, and some new character sprites. Our writer got finished a couple of scripts too!
I made some stop motion brickfilms over the summer. Not very many and they aren’t really good quality or very long, but I always go up and down with how often I make them. They are also some of the longest I have ever made, (only 2-3 minutes). I’m only a highschool freshman so I’m pretty happy with it and I hope to get better in the future.
Only creative thing ive done this summer is build stuff in heavily modded minecraft. Whether Star Wars Land with fully integrated music vendors and NPCs, castles from game of thrones with armies and heavy working defenses, or New Vegas from Fallout with gang wars working casinos and quests.
Thanks for your inspiration Austin "Dad" McConnell. You're an amazing guy! I didn't create things this summer but it's fantastic that you could inspire others ❤. All I did this summer was take college classes. 🤔 guess I did create something then... a business report.
I didn't finish any of my projects this summer (not even close), but I did get a job in the games industry, so it wasn't a total bust. Once I finish getting settled in hopefully I can get the projects moving again. Or even better, get a project (singular) moving.
You are one of my favorite youtubers and I always assumed you had somewhere around 3mil subs, but I just checked for the first time and I am stunned by the fact that you don’t even have 1mil
Started working on a screenplay for a found-footage thriller after watching that previous video this summer. I would’ve totally emailed you if I’d have known!
When this summer , I was in a toxic relationship which also made me very suicidal and I was slacking behind in school .. didn't study neither did my homework no assignment but now I'm in a better place mentally , single and doing better in school .. actually got an A in business studies test today :)

Sitting in Australia as it starts to heat up and you say summer 2019 is over.
The battle has only just started!
Hey Austin! Watching all of your videos and loving them regardless of the topic. My favorite one was your list of books you read in one year. Please consider doing a new one! Thanks and keep up the great work! God bless!
Summer for me starts in a month. I’ve already gotten started on my thing though, and I’ve got a reminder set to watch that original video again
What’s it called?
@@pellaeon1877 well the one we just finished is called they cant stop all of us.
Definitely didn't quite make the mark on my summer goals but I did learn a lot. Most importantly, I am determined for the seasons to come. Already have a goal list made lol. Thanks Austin for your encouragement and genuineness. Keep rocking it dude. 👍
I like the idea of this! It's definitely such a great way to encourage people to make stuff!
austin, mid development hell is so real man. its the time where the novelty of an idea wears off but its not near completion enough for you to see the fruits of your labor. you just gotta keep pushing my dude
I watched this on the 4th week of school so I need to focus on school and homework. I cant wait till next summer. I hope I come back to this video and maybe do something productive. Thanks for the motivation!
You're amazing. Thank you for your great content AND great character
I never go back to you on this but I actually learned how to play guitar and it was a really fun process
When summer begins in the southern hemisphere I'll update you on my progress. Cool videos man!
I finished my intro scene for a visual novel I'm making! I'm honestly really proud since I had to draw all the scenes, make environments and make the music by myself. Though I spent around 3-4 months planning and doing it. As long as you keep at it and make steady progress and are still passionate about it, it doesn't really matter how long it takes.
thank you for acknowledging your community's achievements.
you rock dad
In true procrastinator fashion i said id do it in fall. But in actuality i just spend summer thinking about plotlines, themes, structure of 4 ideas i have. A book, 1 film ( might try to crowdfund it), a show idea I can hopefully pitch, a movie i could only do if i had a whole studios budget, and a video ideas to start up my main channels videos
Thanks for inspiring us man, really gave some of us that push to make videos, films, games and all types of amazing stuff.
I am a *13 year old boy.*
You are my *inspiration.*
This Summer I kept watching Ur videos .
It all goes downhill from there buddy
IDon'tEvenKnow u toxic bruh
@@tylerl4320 its called a joke welcome to the internet my friend
IDon'tEvenKnow double woooosh
3:23 These guys actually saw one of the short films I posted on Reddit and gave me some tips! They even subscribed to me I think which is pretty cool lol. Glad to see they're getting attention from you, Austin, they deserve it.
Wish I knew about this earlier, I've spent the past few months building a caravan!
3/4 of the internship consisted in setbacks, last 1/4 of it getting my solution ready to work :-)
The song in the credits though ✌️🔥
You´re my favourite RUclipsr, because I never know what I´m gonna get next from you, but I know I´m always gonna like it!
Start of summer for us!!!! Southern hemisphere rules!!!
I made two big puppets over the summer for a show, people seem really like them. So yeah, Austin inspired me to get them done, thanks man 😊
I made some stop motion brickfilms over the summer. Not very many and they aren’t really good quality or very long, but I always go up and down with how often I make them. They are also some of the longest I have ever made, (only 2-3 minutes). I’m only a highschool freshman so I’m pretty happy with it and I hope to get better in the future.
This summer I went on tour with my band around the northeast which is pretty sick had a blast also landed a kickflip
I get discouraged easily too. UGH, it's hard to push through when you lose interest in a project! D:
This is quite inspiring it's like a little creative hub Brilliant all the best to everyone with their projects Inspiring video Austin
Thanks Austin for that summer video. Wrote my novel’s first draft.
I left the video during the ad, but remembered you said there was a song at the end and came back.
You are one of my favorite youtubers and I always assumed you had somewhere around 3mil subs, but I just checked for the first time and I am stunned by the fact that you don’t even have 1mil
I started writing a book, have wanted to for YEARS it’s going great! Almost done with my first draft!! 63,650 words!!!
I started my Inktober six weeks early, so now I have an art zine available as an e-book in advance of posting the pages from October 1st. :)
I got the blues and fell into a funk, fair play to you all who were more productive, and to Austin for gettin' y'all in gear :)
Started working on a screenplay for a found-footage thriller after watching that previous video this summer. I would’ve totally emailed you if I’d have known!
Holy shit I got featured in a video!
Ps: I am the idiot who called Austin sir xD
Give us more of that nerd paraphernalia! Like biscuits and the contrast between the complexities of table top games and computer board games :)
First time I've come across one of his videos this quickly
same
Same
Same tho. Guess the algorithm knows now lol
When this summer , I was in a toxic relationship which also made me very suicidal and I was slacking behind in school .. didn't study neither did my homework no assignment but now I'm in a better place mentally , single and doing better in school .. actually got an A in business studies test today :)
