How to Open and Reseal 2014+ GMC Sierra Permaseal Headlights

- In this video I'm showing how to take apart GMC Sierra headlights that are sealed with permaseal. Once opened, I swapped the xenon internals for a damaged set of headlights into good halogen headlights. Also, installed clear corner makers for the turn signal from klearz.com.

Sweet sweet video my man. My least favorite part about the stock headlights (apart from the bad light output) is those two chrome strips. They missed a good opportunity to make those something nice and useful like the day time running lights. Thank you.

Ever work with the 2016-2018 camaro lights? I tried heating them and they wouldn't budge.
What did you do to replace the lens and signal lens ? Did you have the shave the plastic to get em out or they just unclip?
Would oven work? I used the over to open my 07 Escalade headlights and was a lot faster
250deg 20-25min and take the whole lens off in one cycle 👌👌👌

Do you think I could use this technique on replacing just the lens on a 16 Sierra headlight? This is the only video I can find semi close to what I want done... but it looks as though the whole assembly is attached to the lens. I just want to switch lens’ if you know what I mean.
The concept of taking the headlights apart is the same with the newer headlights.
where did you get the led daytime running light kit?
LED daytime running lights were taken off OEM Sierra headlights. The truck originally came with xenon headlight with DRL, but they were damaged beyond use (truck was in an accident).
How did you paint the chrome? Did you sand the surface of it prior painting? Did you use a special paint that could withstand high heat?
The paint was done by the paint shop. They used regular car paint.
You can strip the chrome with oven cleaner, or that purple cleaner/degreaser. For the degreaser method, most get a tub and let the chrome plastic sit in it awhile
I use moderate sanding (220G), “acid etch primer”, regular auto grade primer after the acid etch has flashed or dried, then base coat and finally clear coat! Keeps em’ shiny!
Where did you find the plastic pieces for the new DRL boards?
From used damaged GMC headlights.

I’ve done many new bmw lights that were difficult, but not horrible. Then I did some newer Audi light and OMG was absolute pain in the ass 😩
How many rolls of seal for a 2018 silverado 1500?
A roll of butyl sealant, both from Morimoto and Diode Dynamic is more than enough to do a set of 2018 Silverado headlights.
I imagine the perma would be the same toughness on the '14 Silverado
It's exactly the same kind of perma-seal.
What’s the benefits of a heat gun vs oven?
They are both the same. Oven is easier if you are new to this, but you can mess up with both methods. If you use oven, make sure you put the headlight on blocks of wood at bake 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Use electric oven only.
Save yourself some time, preheat over to 200 degrees, bake for 25-30 mins on a pan, plastic face sticking up. Dont forget to remove all caps, lights, and wires of course.

no, permaseal glue, also known as polyurethane sealant, does not melt when heated.

im so scared to do that on my 2015 tahoe.. im scared of leaks and not properly sealing. back or just fuckin them up
man its crazy i did it for the first time and messed up because i lacked knowledge. My biggest issue was sealing the headlight back together. I did remove the old glue and messed up. i learned you MUST REMOVE your old glue and apply your new one
Where I can buy clear lens
Google "Klearz" for clear markers, but for actual headlight lens cover there is no aftermarket as far as I know of.

Is way better the oven 22 min 225 Fahrenheit you need try
Would heating the headlight assembly in an oven make it any easier to remove the lens?
Make it easier, no. The oven heats up the whole headlight, where as the heat gun only heats the area that needs prying. Once in a while I use an oven, just some headlights cover lens don't like heat especially Ford and BMW. If you do use an oven, use an electric oven at 200F degree for 10 minutes. Also, pre-heat the oven before use.

That is not permaseal my brother. Trust me. Permaseal takes much more effort then that. No matter how much heat applied
