Hello Rick, thanks a bunch 🙏🙏 Hopefully I can come back with a bag of shots and great videos to share 🤞 But it'll be fantastic experience regardless! Stay well.
Have a good trip! Looking forward to your videos on NZ. Would really like to know how you research m your trip and places to photograph especially like NZ where you've never been before. A video on that topic? Have a safe and enjoyable trip.
Hi Leslie, that's a good question. My research just involves a heap of Googling and reading 😄 I collate and compare travel/photography blogs and articles, then I shortlist, note potential vantage points, sunrise/sunset directions, check travel times/distances/risks, and then wing the rest when I get there! I'll make a note of it for a future video. Many thanks for your well wishes, take care and see you in the next vid 🙏🙏👍
I hope you get the Tamron 150-500mm in time for your trip, you WILL use it alot more than you think. Even the 35-150mm, that will probably live on your camera. I did a solo month long roadie of both isles & it was a dream photography/hiking trip! I've been trying to get back ever since haha! At that point in my photog journey, I only had my ultra-wide (14-24) & the entire time I wished I had a versatile mid-range & ultra-telephoto. Best of luck on your trip! Can't wait to see what you create!
Thank you, I really hope I get that lens in time too! I think you're right - I'll need these focal lengths more than I think I do! Sounds like that was your experience? Appreciate the heads up! 🙏🙏
Sooo exciting!!! It was a great run down of gear and getting into a bit of hiking myself I thought it was great to see how it all stacked up in weight. Have a fantastic time down ther guys, can't wait to see the photos and videos front this trip.
It's great that you're getting into hiking Soph! Weight is definitely a big consideration... I'm sure you know all about it 😉 Looking forward to the adventures that await! Thanks heaps 🙏🙏
Definitely looking forward to your thoughts on the X-H2 cam! Appreciate the rundown on other gear, especially the hiking portion and the links to all. Thanks and have a wonderful time in NZ!
Hi David, I'm very much looking forward to spending some quality time with the XH2 😄 Maybe I'll do a future video on it. Appreciate your comments and great to hear you're interested in the hiking aspect too. Thanks for your well wishes 🙏🙏
Very nice to see what gear you use. Love my gopro but as you pointed out it's limitations can hold you back. Have a Fantastic trip and waiting to see all your captures from this adventure. Bless you always Sister
Thanks a bunch for your well wishes, brother 😆 🙏🙏 I'll probably end up using my GoPro half the time because I'm carrying too much weight! Hopefully the weather Gods will bless the trip! 😊🤞 Take care.
Thanks so much for your kind comments Ervin 🙏🙏 I wish I could take credit for the introductory footage in this video, but unfortunately I can't. I had to use some stock footage as I don't yet have any of my own from NZ. But hopefully I can change that soon 🤞🤞 Keep an eye out! Cheers.
Hey Valerie, nice breakdown of your gear. I’m excited to see your B-roll with switching your XT-4 to your video camera. New Zealand is definitely on my list too. Egmont National Park looks beautiful with Mt. Taranaki, a cone volcano similar in appearance to Mt. Fuji 😉 Looking forward to watching your adventures unfold!
Hi Shaun, unfortunately I'll have to leave My Taranaki for another time as I'll be in the South Island. Hopefully the weather Gods will bless the trip so that I can squeeze in all the photos, hikes and B-rolls I'm dreaming of 😅 Hopefully you get a chance to make your way there too, one day soon. Take care and keep enjoying your adventures out there 🙏👍📸
NZ with the new Fuji what an adventure! You will have a ball. 3 hours away, NZ rivals anything in the world for landscape photography. Have a safe trip, looking forward to seeing your images and videos.
Couldn't agree with you more about the NZ landscape Colin! I think I'll be like a kid on Xmas day 😂 Very much looking forward to sharing the photos and adventures in time. Thanks Colin, and take care 🙏🙏
Have a great trip! I went to NZ many years ago and it was AMAZING. Some of my favorite things were hiking up Mt Taranaki, kayaking in Milford Sound, and doing a helicopter tour from Queenstown into the surrounding mountains. Anyway, I’m sure you’ll have an absolute blast there! Looking forward to seeing your content from the trip… have fun!
I can see why you had an amazing trip - what awesome experiences you had! I'll be in the South Island... So hopefully I'll make my way to some of those places 😉 Hopefully the weather Gods will be kind! Thanks a lot ZJ! Take it easy and catch you later 🙏👍🏔️📸
That’s very exciting Valerie! My (long) NZ story: One of the reasons for moving to Aus was to also be close to LOTR country. Then it took me 15 years to go there! I did a 10 day solo road trip in NZ South Island exactly 3 years ago in 2019, and to date it was my fav trip of all time. It was actually that trip that was the catalyst for me getting into photography in 2020. 2 Weeks before the trip I bought a 2nd hand Lumix LX100 compact camera online, which got lost in the post. So big drama before leaving, and I don’t want to buy something else, until I get my money back. The day before leaving, the camera ends up back at the seller… So I left for NZ with only my 2016 Sony phone camera.. The scenery was so awesome that even the phone pics were stunning for FB, but the quality wasn’t good enough for printing, and having only 1 very wide angle phone lens, meant that some mountains looked smaller than they really were. I was so blessed with what I saw, that even missing out on one venue due to a road closure was OK, just reason to go back! I really hope you have a fantastic time there 😊
Oh wow, so interesting to hear your story Pieter- thank you heaps for sharing 🙏🙏 I can tell how much you love NZ - and for very good reasons! 😅 LOTR is one of my favourite movie franchises! Sorry to hear about all your drama in the lead up to your trip, but I'm a big believer in silver linings and things happening for a reason. I'm glad that it led to you discovering photography and has given you a great excuse to go back there again - one day soon I hope! Really great to hear how much you enjoyed it 😊 It is just such a beautiful country... Leaving will be hard! Thanks again for sharing!! 👍
Yes I may have spent too much of my life watching LOTR, the making of LOTR etc 😂(I went to Mt Sunday/Edoras the 2nd last day, it was overcast with some drizzle, so the mountains were covered. I had a 2 hour drive the next morning to Christchurch to catch my afternoon flight, but drove the hour back to Mt Sunday in the morning, as it was a perfect day. So glad I did, I was alone there for a while and got some drone video, it was a highlight of my trip. Going back to NZ is definitely high on my list, this time with all my camera gear! Have a safe and memorable trip 🙂
@@photonspark sounds like you've had a lot of memorable NZ adventures! Your return will be equally as amazing I'm sure - this time, you'll be extra geared up 😉 Thanks Pieter, looking forward to the adventures ahead!
Very cool gear :) Maybe I'll swop my screw in lens filters for magnetic ones, one day.. I've used thin woolen gloves with conductive fingertips in NZ, and it kept my hands warm enough. (the tips dont open) Very good idea re the satellite thingy! I hiked 16km by myself there, and even though the walk was relatively easy on a valley floor, no one knew I was there... (see my other post) The NZ drone laws are very strict, for most places you need a permit from that local authority. I ended up only flying my drone in 2 spots where I didn't need a permit, as I didn't want to take any chances and get deported! I twice saw other tourists flying small drones illegally, but didn't want to go down that road..
I think it's worth considering magnetic filters. And wow, I still can't believe you did 10 days solo in NZ - amazing stuff Pieter, and it takes a lot of guts in my opinion 👊🙌 👍 I don't mean to sound like your mother, but next time, gotta make sure someone knows where you are and that you're contactable 😅 Really appreciate the heads up about the drone - I had no idea they're that strict and will definitely research that some more. Take care and "chat" again soon!
Thanks Valerie, yes I'll be a more responsible adult next time re safety 😂 Will definitely put magnetic filters on the list. I once dropped one on a boat ramp , it rolled into shallow water and I could retrieve it! Enjoy the packing and anticipation for your trip, take care.
Woahhh New Zealand has been on my bucketlist for the longest time because of Lord of the Rings and excited to go there for landscapes. Look forward to your photos and travel! Great idea to train yourself for some hiking 😂
I hope you get a chance to visit the land of LOTR and tick it off your list one day soon! Looking forward to some great hikes and seeing some great landscapes! Many thanks and stay well 🙏👍
I’m curious how the lenses handle your new 40mp sensor camera. I’ve read image quality change is minimal but also not so good when using certain older FujiFilm lenses.
I think all Fuji lenses will benefit to a degree from the resolution bump, but the results will be maximized with new lenses. Fortunately my 10-24mm and 18mm are in new lenses list, but let's see 🤞 I'm more curious to see how the XH2 will resolve the Tamron lenses... Will let you know in time! Thanks and take it easy 🙏
The XH2 has 46MP, which makes it ideal for landscapes. As I didn't want to sell my XT4, it made sense for me to use it as my video camera, which it's quite capable of - 26MP, 4k 60p, 10 but/H265 etc. Only thing is the AF lets me down sometimes. Hope that helps! 👍
See you in NZ missy! 🙌😬💛
See you there darls! Hope you guys have the time of your lives!! 🤗👍🏔️🚐📸
Looking forward to some awesom photos and video from New Zealand, Valerie. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Thanks a lot Zak, let's see how I go! 👍
Enjoy New Zealand! Enjoy the wedding - precious time. I'll look forward to what you get to share afterwards. Stay safe - and warm!
Thanks a bunch Denise! Very much looking forward to it all and sharing the photos and adventures 😊 Take care 🙏🙏
Great video, Valerie! Love all the intro footage, too. Nicely done. Have fun!
Many thanks Peter 🙏🙏 Will do, and you take care. Cheers.

Agree 👍 Interesting to see how hiking/camping gear is combined with photography gear.

how does having xt4 for video and xh2 for stills work ? what is the idea behind this ?
