It should be noted that Fred used as much of the original "Stunt" Robot parts as possible when doing the restoration on him. In fact, the Stunt Robot is probably more "original" than the hero Robot. Fred even preserved the signatures on its back. The hero is probably only about 20% original after its restoration since it was so heavily modified in the Mystery Island series. That series only ran for 16 episodes and never had an ending to it. Quite a bit of damage for a show that only lasted 16 episodes and they were only 10-12 minutes long!
I remember this series in the 1970s. In Australia we got the US Saturday morning kids shows as well. As kids we knew it was the Lost in Space robot hammed up. Anyway, really enjoy what you are doing. Lost In Space waa super popular in Australia.
Thank you so much! Yes it is a super obscure show. Obviously from the lack of views on this video and the subsequent wrist communicator prop video, there's not a lot of people that know of Mystery Island. But that's okay. I figure there are those that will still find it interesting. Thank you for your kind comment.
I watched this show. For the robot of course! For some reason i thought it was aired as a segment on The Banana Splits Show, like Danger Island, but maybe it was on The Skate Birds.
I remember this show and I only watched it because of the robot. Like you I was glad to see him again, but wow, what a hatchet job they did on him! One of my favorite features of B9 is his tread section. I also dimly remember the America TV show episode, but the memory is fuzzy. It seems to me that Bob May was inside the robot for this apperance even though it was in its POPS configuration, and he was flirting with Sara Purcell (I think it was her), saying she was better than Dr. Smith. Very interesting video you made here.
Thank you so much! No one I know remembers this show so it's good to hear from someone that does. I think I recall Bob May saying he did the America show but I know for sure he didn't do Mystery Island. You'll have to check out my video showing the original screen used hero wrist communicator that Kreeg wore on this show.
@@outsider238 Thanks for your reply! Regarding the Bob May America TV show: More than a few times in the past few years I've been looking for a reference to it on YT or anywhere on the net, but no luck. It would've been about 1985 I think. There was a similar show called Real People, but that was a bit earlier. I'm not sure, it may have been a reunion thing with other LIS cast members, but I only recall the robot part. However I am pretty sure Bob May was identified as the robot and like I say I was surprised to see that it was the Mystery Island version (I don't think the robot's altered appearance was mentioned- don't ask don't tell I guess) and the way he was running around on the stage I'm sure it was the Bermuda shorts thing happening although POPS-style. And as I mentioned, he was being flirty with the female host. 35 years is a long time when you're trying to remember something like that.
@@Nathan-jq1uw Wow! I forgot about Real People. I had a friend that was on an episode of that show. I barely remember the America show. It would be interesting to know how many other shows the Robot appeared in when it was in its Mystery Island configuration. I think that America was a very short run program and it was pretty obscure. I'm surprised it hasn't shown up here on RUclips though. Seems like somebody somewhere has a clip from just about everything.
Actually Dan Monroe owns the chest plate unless he sold it to Mike. But Dan didn't sound like he would have ever sold it. Dan ran the website The Magnetic Lock. I don't know if that website is still around.
Purists be darned, I say good on Mr. Barton for bringing the stunt robot up to code. Even as a kid I knew there was something fishy about that dented doppelganger ( hey, I'm alliterating like Dr. Smith!) Remember that weird square patch on the back of it's torso when it was hanging upside down in Junkyard In Space? He ended up falling bubble first and still looked no worse for wear.
That square on his back in that episode has always been a mystery. There's no sign of it on the stunt robot. It's been suspected that there may have been more than one torso for the stunt robot. It may also be possible that it was patched up but I don't remember Fred Barton mentioning anything about it. It's very odd.
Yes a lot of fans were upset about that. A lot of people never even heard of Mystery Island and were unaware of the changes that were done to the original robot.
Hi you definitely have to talk with other RUclipsr Dan Monroe/ media master design …..!!!! He has the chest plate from P O P S the robot off of Mystery Island…
Haha! Yes we know each other through the fact that he made my robot's collar 23 years ago. He knows I have the robot's bubble and I knew about him having the chest plate. 😁
That is the large model of the B9 made by Masudaya. They were made around the 80s I think. They're a bit pricey these days. It is unpainted so you have to paint it yourself.
I was really lucky. A friend mentioned that he saw it on ebay. The seller was also selling the chest plate. In talking to him, he was helping Greg Jein in the restoration of the Robot and he kept those two pieces from the trash pile. I was going to buy the chest plate from him as well but he had already sold it to someone else. But as I mentioned in the video, I ended up knowing the guy that has the chest plate but he's not going to sell it. Guess I can't blame him. Haha!

If it hadnt been for this series, I might not have remembered Lost in Space!
I was shocked when I first saw Mystery Island!
I DID watch this show, and for the exact same reason. They could change him all they wanted to, but it was STILL the robot!
I thought he still looked really cool!
It was this show that helped me remember Lost in Space...
I'm just shocked to see other people that remember this show. Everyone I talk to said they don't remember it or never saw it.
Awesome video. I don't remember that show but that is awesome and having the original bubble is too cool.

Yeah, it was definitely Skate Birds. I think The Banana Splits was a few years earlier. I also liked the Robonic Stooges cartoon too!
Your B-9 Robot looks awesome!
Thank you very much! He definitely was a labor of love!
I do like a non cornice ceiling
So the robot looked _so much different_ 10 years later on. Sounds human to me!
Thank you great video
Thank you! 😁
I was wondering if there were any copyrights that prevented them from using the original robot?
I think they just wanted to modernize him and make him less recognizable from Lost In Space.

What a mess they made of the B9. Ruined the whole thing. Very sad.

TV shows did awful things to B9 and Robby. Shame on them.
Yeah so little original parts are left on the hero robot today. 😔
