"If you were wrong, how would you know?" The only wrong answer is "But I'm not."
Applies to absolutely everything, newly acquired knowledge and deepest held beliefs about yourself and the world.
it's a vital question for growth and isn't for answering in public.

"How would you assume someone you look up to would handle this situation?", "How would you assume you would teach a solution to someone else who is learning?", and "How would you assume someone you don't get along with would handle this situation?"
Often, putting the issue through the "car wash" of observational shifting allows you to take up the role and lean into it a bit more. It is the leverage of this question I use all the time when I attempt to be a human once a year:
"What don't you want?" often used when people have a really hard time picking where they want to go eat as a group. If you ask where they want to go, they have a million choices. When they know where they don't want to go, they often have one choice that pops out right away.

@@llareia Exactly. Like he mentioned in the video, we tend to think about our flaws as things we’ve done in the past, and we can’t change the past. But when we’re thinking about the future, it puts the idea in our head that we can change; both change the outcome, and change ourselves in so much as “fixing” our flaws. Chances are we already know our flaws and are thinking about them. But this questions let’s us think about how we can get around it and will help us avoid pitfalls as we go. LOVE the question!

For reference, these are the questions and their original framings as I interpreted them:
    - You start a project and in 6 months time it fails because of you. Why?
(→ How can I improve the likelihood that I succeed in this project?)
    - What would this exact situation right now be like if I had no arms?
(→ what am I grateful for?)
    - What haven’t I noticed in this room before?
(→ How can I be more present)
    - If I were to make this decision many times over (say 5) which decision would likely result in the best outcome in the pick-a-path book of my life?
(→ Which decision should I make?)
    - What are 30 solutions to this problem? You have limited time to list them (say 5 minutes).
(→ Which decision should I make?)
    - What would this look like if it were easy? - Tim Ferris
(→ How can I get this done?)

I like the chose-your-own-adventure-book question because it makes me be more specific. I have a ton of paths I'm interested in, but a kids' book can only have so many options and you have to choose a specific action. If I were reading an adventure book and the options were A) write a book or B) write an album, I couldn't pick because that's too vague. Now if it's A) write the sequel to your favorite book or B) produce an album in the style of your favorite artist, that's a lot more telling.

    • @indigoziona
      @indigoziona 10 месяцев назад +3

I've seen some cool tricks in Choose your own adventure type books too (possibly the ones aimed at adult geeks rather than kids to be fair :) ). Like some actions make no difference to your plot but they might help or hurt someone else. Sometimes a path seems very different to another but they lead to the same place... and sometimes you get locked in a no win situation, where, figuratively, you just have to close the book and start again.

Finding a way to be grateful for whatever it is that enters it's way into your journal is huge. It can immediately alter our neurochemistry to reshape our experience with a certain life every, which can ITSELF unlock so many more lessons that we would not have otherwise had access to.

It’s crazy how much more motivating it is to get your sh*t together when you’re looking at it at fear of failure vs. to why you’re actually doing it. Im starting a RUclips channel to be a full time artist because that’s a lifelong dream for me vs. the fear of being stuck at a job forever that I genuinely hate doing. This method forced me to look at it from a different angle and how to use fear of failure in a positive way.

    My favourite questions:
To do or to be? (Can be answered for moments, days, phases...)
What is something about you that would surprise me? (I love asking this people and always being flashed away by the answers.)
What if you died today? (Would this still bother you? Would you be unpresent when speaking to this person? Would there be fear? What can you do today to eliminate what keeps you fearing death?)

Give the person a place of agency within the question, and a scenario with specific parameters with which they must answer it, add fun, urgency, or clever redirection, so the question produces better results by first disarming the person's defenses to the seriousness of the question, and instead encourages they immediately find a solution or do so joyfully, thereby preventing paralysis or dread from having asked something that will yield a deep response, and therefore effectively producing those deeply needed answers. The deep and or compelling or effective answers/responses that made the question valuable to ask to begin with.
The formula of a perfect question.
    Sheer genius. ❤

😮 "What would this situation actually be like if I had no arms?" I'm currently working through folding allllllll the laundry: 7 big black trash bags' worth. This would be RIDICULOUS to attempt without arms! Plus, I've taken multiple breaks to love on my kitties, which I also wouldn't have been able to do because I held them 😭

Thank you. I’m constantly blaming the fact that I have MS as a reason for my failures in life. And I blame my MS on how badly I treated my body during addiction (probably not the reason I have MS, but it’s the easiest thing to blame)…but when I think about it, there are SO MANY people with MS who are successful and living their dreams. Is their life easy? No, but they’re doing the damn thing. The truth is, I’m a procrastinator. The solution….I’ll get back to you on that one 😅
    Very thought provoking. Thanks!

Though you probably won’t see this comment as I’m so darn late to the party - I just wanted to say thanks so much for the videos you make. I always get much-needed ideas and inspiration from them. As a self-employed writer and sometimes artist, it’s so easy to get inside my head and block myself. Your videos always help to shake me out if that mind loop of ‘can’t’ or ‘it’s too hard’. Really appreciate your work.

It fits that you like 'I Think You Should Leave' (which I'm assuming based on you throwing in some clips in lately), as your sense of humour is great. That's what really makes me like your videos, not only informative and helpful, but just a fun funny watch filled with funness... and with a lot of heart and authenticity showing your personality! Anyhoo, love your work, you rock!!
[random note: I originally accidentally typed 'sense of humour' as 'sense of human', haha... that could be a band name...]

I really appreciate your videos, the balance between humor and information, the effort put into the content and the editing. The way I always feel after your videos is great. Thank you for making them. I’m a creative currently traveling the world to help regain focus without my day to day distractions and to explore other cultures and their arts. I would love to pick your brain and have a social involving us creating music and art when I’m in your city. Is there a way to contact you privately to exchange information (and have a pre video call to so you can get to know my character, and I can see the off camera you first if you want one)
Either way thank you again for sharing your messages so well

I screamed premortem! one minute into the video. We use these at the start of IT projects. It's a way of identifying risks early on by creating the space for team members to share what keeps them up at night (eg potential security risks, unclear value, feasibility questions.....) so we spend some time mitigating these upfront rather than waste months working on something and then realize that it was doomed from the start. A bit morbid but we use postmortems too as a way of reflecting (retrospecting) on what the heck went wrong and what went well too (after the fact) to carry over learnings into future projects (ie what to keep doing and what to do differently)

I found a that your question "how is this the best thing that has happened to me?" works great for catastrophic thinking. So for example if you're worried about making the wrong decision, you pretend you already made the wrong decision and ask yourelf how is that the best thing that could've happened.

This whole video sort of made me realize something. Of course, it's not universal and won't apply to everyone; nothing truly is, but I was considering the question "how would this look if it was easier?" I was looking at it in the perspective of a book I'm writing as well. And after coming to my own conclusion, I realized something incredible: we often already have the answers to our own questions somewhere in our brains. It just takes a good question to get the answer out of ourselves.
