@@ctl6985 I see your point, but activism has to start somewhere. If it's an athlete then so be it. For Jason Whitlock to say that athletes are not equipped to be intellectual though leaders is just wrong. Malcolm Jenkins is very well versed and I've never heard him mince his words when stating clearly what his protest is about. Colin Kaepernick either. If these men are willing to take that role then good for them. I will concede that not all athletes have the capability to be spokesmen or women.

To Jason Whitlock, once you are an athlete, you should not speak and act on social and political issues. He thinks that athletes are unqualified by their merely being athletes. Additionally, for him, corporate sponsorship that athletes have further disqualifies athletes.
Jason does not look at the contents and substance of what a particular athlete says, writes, and does and assumes that they are just unqualified and unknowledgeable. That is total bullshit. Being well informed and knowledgeable about sociak and political issues has nothing to do with one's academic and professional background. One can do research and inform oneself by reading and speaking and listenkng to persons who are better informed to help inform oneself well on social and political issues.

He sounds like such a fool.......He is making the assumption that these athletes who happen to be black are uneducated playing right into the stereotype. Also there are many athletes like Alan Page, who is far more intelligent than Mr Whitlock, who became an associate justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court. Restricting athletes to “shutting up and playing” assumes that athletics is all that these athletes ever will be. Not allowing them to use athletics as a stepping stone for the rest of their lives. Athletes, especially football players are usually retired from sports in their mid 30’s at the most. That means they have many more years ahead to carve a different path for themselves, be it in politics or any other form of social service. There should be nothing wrong with an athlete cultivating his future craft so to speak while still playing. Mr. Whitlock is woefully out of touch.

Just because you become an athlete it doesn't take away you being a decent human being. No matter how much money you have or what your status is. You are still a human being. In fact you have even more of a duty when giving so much. To whom much is giving, much is required. You don't need to have qualifications to be a compassionate human being towards humanity. Your job is to first be a human being and love your brothering.

So if you take a stand, it's not significant. You are just developing your own brand and you don't know what you're talking about. So based on this argument Rosa Parks was doing the same thing. According to Jason Whitlock, Rosa parks doesn't represent him nor his thinking. How in the world did we get to such a divide as blacks in America. We should acknowledge the significant act and support more significant acts that push the debate and spur action. That's the only way.

Great interview Roland. I think I actually learned a lot from this interview. I don't think whitelock is a Uncle Tom, I think he has more issues in the mental health department. He isn't wrong in what he saying, he is projecting his opinion on others, as if its law, but when he is challenged he hides behind excuses he doesn't give others. He is more on the narcissistic side.

Now it's anyone just standing up with corporations and white celebrities cheering. Does not feel the same. Looks good but does not feel the same . It would be awesome if LeBron James stood in unicence with Rev td Jakes or AL Sharpton in the beginning.

I'm not a Whitlock fan, but I understand what He is saying,
If Lj really understood politics, He would've been speaking on public policy. behind closed doors, the rich loves Trump, especially cause of the tax cuts.
I'm a big NBA fan, or I was until this season; so I'm not wAtching this season. Why?. The way Espn keeps co-opting whatever message LJ has, They're so biased, You would've thought Cleveland won the NBA championship, is that not disrespectful to the champs, fans, or people that pay Their cable bill!
I wish that We as a people could ad Agency as a curriculum to the public school system, along with elements of contracting, & business ethics, before dealing with these vulcher lawyer/Agents.
Ray Allen is a prime example, I highly respect Him for getting His money with His Mom, rather than give all that money to a stranger, & not even researching different types o f power of attorneys!
Bottom line these athletes are attached to these very same corporations that donate millions to undermine labor & other fundamental rights that people exercise!

I agree that I don't like Whitlock either but also agree that if you want to change something then get with the people who can actually make that change happen. Get with those in the field and then later you can use your status to connect the two worlds and make even more change. That's been my problem with Trump meeting with pastors, rappers and comedians about prison reform. Meet with those who have a mastery of the subject
