I LOVE this game. Must buy for anyone with a PSVR. These Bots are so freaking cute. Hands down one of the best, if not the best PSVR games to own.
Just finished the first world. You are absolutely spot on, JapanStudio has made another gem. It's not going to break new ground in terms of platformer mechanics and innovation, but it's a quality game in a genre that has been ignored and hurting outside of the craftsman at Nintendo. Now if we can get them to make Patapon VR....
Blackwatch Pilot not break new ground? I have to disagree. I feel really immersed in the world and the innovation in this game is what I love most. As he said, nothing on a flat screen can convey the feeling of the game. The camera turns and the 360 degree movements are simply amazing. The 3D platforming is incredibly unique and the features of the game are something totally new for the market. It breaks many grounds in many topics.
I have never loved a video game that I have not played more than I love this. Great review for a great game. I'm still disappointed they didnt make a collectors edition with a plushy.
Just did 11 or so missions of this, hands down the most easily obtained pure joy of a video game that you can find once in your hand.
Can't wait to play this! Loved the mini game in the playroom VR. It's so overwhelmingly adorable and that is seriously my shit.
No fucking way, I hope you do a review for Astro Bot! You are a legend reviewing so many old school platformers, you must have plenty of experience to know what *really* makes a platformer fun. Just please don't compare it to that *one* game as always.

Had been reading some of the reviews that came earlier in the day but was waiting for this one the most... Not that I needed a lot of convincing to get this game, Bryan, Great job as usual. ;)
We are certainly not short for content for PSVR, but what a great 2018 it has been, and what terrific recent weeks we've had with the likes of Astro Bots, Firewall, or The Persistence.
Just wanted to come back on here and let you know I just had a friend come over and try Astro Bot rescue mission on my PSVR pro and PS VR..he immediately went to Walmart and got the psvr bundle with this game..this game just literally sold another PSVR unit and he also traded with ps4 OG for a new PS4PRO...this game is amazing!! My 8 yr old daughter is LOVING this game..i picked it up on sale for only 20 bucks American and it's worth every damn penny and more..GET THIS GAME PEOPLE!!
VR age restriction is 12-13 years and for good reason. Kids eyes are still developing. Please stop your kid from playing any VR!!

played this all day today 8h in 3rd world boss battle iv gave up on for the night, this game is great, it has renewed my faith in psvr, its fun, addictive, and fresh, sony knocked it out the park with this game, my daughter will love it next time I get hir. also the detail the devs have put in is special, from the shadow you make, the water effects, sound, I could go on and on. wow its a must. well done the devs.
Getting stoned and playing this was a magical fun time experience

I'm only on world 2 so far but this game is already top 5 all time VR games for me and I have a Vive as well. I haven't been this excited about a platformer since Mario 64. Everyone who's tried mine has been blown away by it.

Nice review as always Bryan, looks and sounds awesome, shame about not really being able to go back on yourself within the level, but then I guess that aids replay ability, can’t wait to play it, loved the mission on the playroom
Oh and in case I don’t make it home from work in time for the cast, my should we shouldn’t we is, I’m spending virtually my whole life at the moment in work, definitely a shouldn’t we, but catching up with all the PSVR news and games I’m missing out on, as well as discussions by watching without parole, a definite should we! Rawr!
The boss battles seem like they'd actually be kinda scary in VR haha. If they got a platformer like this to work so well, imagine a VR take on Ratchet and Clank or even old school hack and slash God of War.
R&C in VR would totally work!!!
The boss battles seem scary at first, specially one that starts underwater, but the bosses are animated so well, and in such a cute style, that it makes them fun.
One boss inside a cave later in the game I thought was gonna be on the 'scary' side until the boss is fully revealed at which point I couldn't stop smiling. Such great character designs.

Yes! What we got of this on the demo disk was my favorite. I too love a good platformer and the graphics for this one are great as well. Gotta get this, my headset has been getting dusty and I need something to jumpstart myself back into vr.

Great review, thanks! So far, Astrobot VR is a blast like the demo is. Great controls with the regular controller and nice variety to the game. That's true, there are hidden bots to find on a second playthrough. Just getting started. The Ninja Remix track is a favorite so far.
Astro Bot is the cutest! He reminds me of the little Anki Cozmo/Vector toys.
Astro Bot is Pure fun and pure joy! Not only the best platformer on VR, but one of the best displays of VR as well. People used to say VR is for first person games only. Try saying that after this gem!

Great review. I'm late to the game on this one but boy what a game! We need to lobby for a Little Big Planet VR. This game has opened my eyes to how great VR can be with imaginative, talented design and I think LBP would fit amazingly well into the VR genre.

I'm so glad that PSVR is getting it's overdue love. I get it that the PSVR didn't have the most diverse launch titles, but anybody that tried it could immediately see it's potential for greatness. Glad to see that greatness finalky being realized in games like Astro Bot and Firewall Zero Hour.

If it's any consolation - it came out on the 2nd Oct for most of the world, but 3rd Oct in Australia. Bastards!
Best VR games i've played so far, I loved it when we got the single level on VR Playroom so was so happy when it was announced a full version was being made. It has not disappointed at all. When playing (not yet finished) the only small gripe I had is the same as you in the video that if you need to go back the camera doesn't follow, but apart from that its a near perfect game. Graphics are just stunning and best i've seen with a VR game, you want to keep looking all round you.
We tried the free demo of this game last night and it stole my heart immediately, hands down up there with the PSVR greats.

I absolutely LOVE this game. It has got to be my favorite game on PSVR. I can’t do scary games in VR, since I don’t really find the feeling of dread or anxiety to be enjoyable, and I can’t do Firewall since I don’t have actual internet (unfortunately), but I’ve had nothing but a smile on my face while playing Astrobot, and am going for 100%. I just wish there were more non scary, quality titles released for PSVR.
Looks great. $40 is a bit steep for me, but at least it's not a short "VR experience". Glad yo see your channel getting the recognition (by Sony) it deserves.

I just did my second playthrough of this. What a masterpiece.
I think PSVR has hit an all time high with this one. This gamenalone is enough to shut the morons up who keep on repeating the same record regarding VR and gaming. This is deffinetly the way forward for gaming.. after playing this, there is noway I can go back to playing Mario on a flatscreen when I know a game like this is possible. The immersion with this game is beyond incredible. Once u pop ur headset on, ur in for an incredible ride.. as Brian said, it's hard to take the smile off your face. I wish there was more hype for this game. I can guarantee if this game came out for Nintendo, it would have turned the world of gaming upside down... lucky for us, it's on PSVR only

This game is so much fun. Just a simple and straightforward platformer. Definitely my favorite PSVR game. It's up there with Moss, DOOM VFR, Robinson The Journey, and Wayward Sky.
I consider Astro Bot Rescue MIssion as a mandatory game that everyone should first explore the PS VR with.

I skipped Spider-Man, God of War, and Red Dead 2 and have absolutely no regrets. These days it's PSVR or nothing. :D

Brilliant game! I’m sure my PSVR set came with this game, but I highly recommend it if you don’t already have it. It’s so cute, and it shows off the many things VR is capable of.
Rebought PSVR mainly for this game, and it’s probably the best VR game I’ve ever played. My wife and I love it.

Yep a scrolling cam or even take first person view of AB to navigate the harder to see portions would be my only constructive criticism. The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is wonderful.
I hope more company can make a game like this. It have the great graphic and great gameplay.

As a dude who was pretty much over "cutsie" games after Little Big Planet, I HAD to try the demo and LOVED it! Gunna wait for a sale to grab this...or was it on sale during the PSN Black Friday sales? Lol. I did get Creed during that one but hadn't noticed this on sale.
I would never normally be interested in a game like this. But then, as we all know- VR makes everything better.
Yes! Those were my two big gripes too and the main reason I'll wait for a sale. No camera control besides your head and can't move backwards.
Moving your head and body works in this game. And the lack of backward movement isn't a big deal deal for this kind of game.

Spot on Review! Like you, the only gripe I had was the backtracking camera. Where would you rank this in terms of graphics? I haven't played every game (I hear Robinson looks amazing) but this is by the the best looking game I've seen so far on the VR.
This ranks pretty high, though it’s tough to compare Astro Bot’s graphics to more “realistic” PSVR games like RE7 but I’d still say it’s somewhere in the Top 10.

I think it’s overall the best looking game that I’ve played in VR. Moss looks really beautiful too but Astro Bot is #1 for me.

About 6 hours, but that was just blasting through until the end. I'd guess it'll take another 6 to do all the bonus stages and go back and find all the missing bots. :D

I'm only an hour in and this game has stolen my heart! Oh and the pre-order bonus theme is equally adhorable. Good review and imo even though sony gave a review copy, it feels pretty much on the nose with how i feel about it.

Unbelievable experience… Just sux that this game is so under the radar.. I mean.. it's a MUST play for PS VR and most PS VR users seem to know this… But ppl that have no PS VR or never tried it have absolutely no idea how great this is... Honestly i think PS VR needs to get advertised WAY more!!
No worries on Astro Bot, it's getting tons of exposure and it's even bundled in with some of the new PSVR headsets. I doubt there's a single PSVR owner that isn't aware of it. Now we just need to tell all the non-PSVR owners how amazing PSVR is. :D

I blasted through the main campaign in around 6-7 hours. But you'll want to replay levels to find the hidden bots, not to mention unlock all the challenge levels and complete those too. You're probably looking at 12 hours of gameplay. :D

Most likely. And - also likely - I'm guessing that the camera turning around or moving backwards caused some motion sickness in their playtesters - which they're obviously trying to avoid.
I hope they make an Ape Escape VR game that plays like this, not that crappy move based first person on rails shooter for PS3.

How long is it/how many levels?
I know it would be cool to turn around and scroll back through the world bust most platformers don’t do that. Like in a lego game when you get past a certain room you can’t go back. It’s a characteristic of a platformer that will always stick.
Ehhhh... In all fairness I can think of WAY more platformers that let you scroll back than not.
PSVR Without Parole I guess but some have stages where u can’t go back. Like uncharted. But your right in lots of platformers you can go back and forth like in little big planet. But they’re side scrolling and in this you go straight so idk
Luckily this is my only complaint in an otherwise practically perfect game. It's worth a mention, but barely worth bringing up when it comes to my overall feelings about Astro Bot. :D
PSVR Without Parole yeah. We need a lot more games like this with the astrobots. Sony needs to release an arcade sports game like Wii sports. It would work so well with the vr if done correctly. Sportsroom vr.
The Best game of psvr i ever play
Just to let anyone even iffy on getting a psvr, I bought one just for no mans sky beyond vr update and had no interest in astro bot what so ever. It looked like a desperate attempt to be Mario 64 which was the best 3d platformer I have ever played and nothing since came even close to matching the magic I feel when playing that game. I then played the free astrobot demo and with all honesty (don't hate me for saying this) but astro bot blew me away, nothing gimicy and it did feel like pure platforming magic, I never thought I'd ever in a million years say this but this game is better than Mario 64 in ways I never thought possible. 10/10 without contest, get a psvr for this game alone, I really mean it.
