    The problem I have with stores like Erewhon is that they take products that are cheaper at other stores like the vital farms eggs and they increase the price by like 3 or 4 dollars just for the fuck of it. I can understand if they were like trader joes or Aldis and 95 percent of the stuff there is manufactured by them but that's price gouging.

    • @OSCARMlLDE
      @OSCARMlLDE Год назад +9

      Fortunately, at least in food/beverages, organic IS a legal certification that you can only get if your shit is actually organic. However, keep an eye out for claims like “natural” “naturally made” “clean label” because those are NOT regulated and you can say that about anything.

    • @vegas_or-bust
      @vegas_or-bust Год назад +1

      There is an ingredient called Natural flavor. I'm pretty sure that is what it is called. It comes from the but, or balls of beavers. It is in imitation vanilla, etc. I read that hunters would cut the balls, & leave the rest. That beavers figured out they were hunted for just that part. So they started chewing them off? Not sure how true.

    • @OSCARMlLDE
      @OSCARMlLDE Год назад

      @@vegas_or-bust you've said a lot of things that are close to right, here. "Natural flavor" describes any flavor derived from nature i.e. oils or extracts from fruit (even fully natural vanilla would still be a "natural flavor"). The ass gland of a beaver (technical term) is A source of vanillin, the chemical you're talking about, but it's much cheaper and easier to make vanillin in a lab, which would be an artificial flavor. What I sort of hoped you were bringing up when I saw someone replied talking about "Natural flavor" is shit where companies label their addition as "Natural flavor" but they're adding it as a preservative, not a flavoring. Rosemary extract, for example, is often added to ground meat in an amount that doesn't change the flavor but prevents it from oxidizing, but it's still "flavor" on the packaging

      No, to ensure you’re eating healthy, quality minimally processed foods. These stores do a lot of the hard work for you and vets products and avoids stocking items with harmful chemicals, extra sugar etc so people who can afford it can shop there. I am not rich but I shop at Natural Grocers which is a pricey health chain too. I prefer to eat healthy than buy extra clothes and shoes and cosmetics.

      @Elle SF for sure but it's so expensive. we have farmers markets here in PA and I try my best to source locally for my family I could never pay these prices

      @@rcg224 I absolutely understand. These stores are probably in wealthy areas maybe plus things in California are probably more expensive too. Hopefully the salaries are higher for most people 🤷🏽‍♀️.

      @Elle SF but cost of living is too it's just seems like a status thing. I'm fine shopping local farmers markets and grocery stores for my family. I 100% don't pay over $3 eggs lol!

    Why are the eggs $10.99 they are $8.99 at Walmart and WholeFoods, they are my favorite eggs. Walmart doesn’t have them all the time but WholeFoods does.
