He's back, faster than before and sporting a new car! The Skull returns driving the Sonic Phantom! This is a fan favorite among GX players. It's a cool design especially with the blue and white long part in the front. The spoiler is a nice touch and so are the front fins. This thing drives rather nice. The body most definitely is average. It's the same weight as the Super Piranha but has slower acceleration and faster speed. The boost is really good. Grip wise, it's a little hard to control. It's rightfully a D in ranking as going into a drift while turning will more often than not, cause you to lose control. Cornering isn't the greatest but it can still get you places. What's interesting about this one is animations. The machine only has one engine. While driving, there are *two* exhaust trails. Why? The cockpit appears to lack a means of steering yet our revived skeleton champ appears to be holding one. Dunno what that's about but good machine altogether. Another machine I used for PRSLS on master and won with.
I'm gonna throw out some thanks this way. This particular video finally got me to try Master Mode after like a decade of owning the game and not even daring. Cheers to you and the Sonic Phantom for being so awesome. Un-cheers to the Fat Shark for being so ridiculously OP the only way I could make it through Diamond Cup was picking it -- so I wouldn't have to comete with it.

You noticed that Sonic Phantom has one engine, but 2 engine flames come out? In F-Zero X, it only had one engine flame. The machine is really an OP one if you set it on max speed.

I'm wondering how accurate the speed in this game is.. you're supposed to got at speeds that sometimes come close to 2000km/h.. those are fighterjet levels of speed (or even faster). If you'd be actually going that fast in the game, would it even be playable..? I'm wondering if the actual speed you're going at is much lower than 1000+km/h, just to make the game actually playable..
Sonic Phantom's stats overall are total lies. Its Grip especially. I used him a lot to do several cups on Master, even got top 6 with him on SLS once (AI cheats on this one).
Sonic phantom is my best racer and I always play with him unless I do story mode but my favorite pilot is Lily then him and I have always found f zero gx as the best in the series and have played it so many times I have 25 memory cards with 100% data including custom machine parts and the staff ghosts etc.
Really? I'm seriously surprised you had that impression. Since the phantom was always my favorit ship I may have never noticed. I always thought it's borderline cheating how easy to handle the phantom was given it's insane speed.
IMO Game liar, the worse the boost, the higher the top speed (Machine with Boost E has low Boost but high Top Speed like Black Bull). I always imagined this way around. Hence why Twin Noritta or Golden Fox have Boost A. Same with Fire Stingray. Boost D but higher Top Speed. Machines like Sonic Phantom, Hyper Speeder etc should have Boost D or E.
there's no correlation to the stats at all. you still get some ships with awful boost and top speed and some with really good top speed and boost (Fat Shark has the best boost in the whole game, one of the better accelerations and good non-boosted top speed)

Sonic Phantom was my favorite vehicle in X for the N64. I gotta get around to playing GX one day.
This game is stupidly hard. Even to this day I've never unlocked the last cup.
You can also unlock the AX Cup via the AX Arcade machine, or using a gameshark that allows you to turn GX into AX...for some reason

Nilrem Depends. He has more than one machine. In GP Legend and Climax, his glider has 3 emgines.

it's faster. speed loss rate from high speeds is lower if you release the accelerator.

Fantom road, it's so easy to finish 1st. I don't know if you already watch a spectator mode to a cpu in master mode but it's easy to do what he do.
