I think Jantje has done something very clever by giving us attributes of Prometheus spead among a number of characters. Maura has bruises from wrist restraints, and we see Prometheus chained by his wrists in the artwork. Her wedding ring is also important, and Prometheus was forced to wear a ring made from one of his chains as a reminder of his transgression and punishment. Daniel actually has a bruise or burn on his ring finger, possibly a Prometheus reference, and Daniel is a trickster who deceives Henry. Eyk is seen in chains (handcuffs), and he is freed, as Prometheus was. He also has a deep connection to fire, and his drinking may symbolize the eagle attacking Prometheus's liver. Olek's name means "defender of humankind," which was the role of Prometheus. Olek is also connected with fire, as a stoker. Your comment about Angel is interesting, because Prometheus has no use for women. Pandora was sent by Zeus as punishment to mankind, and Epimetheus, the brother of Prometheus, foolishly accepted the "gift." So having a gay man as a Prometheus figure works. He is the great friend of man. (I think Tom Friendly in "Lost" is also a Prometheus figure. He's gay, he steals "fire" - Walt - and he wears a prominent ring.) Finally, I just wanted to mention here that I think Jantje gave us a great joke by having a *stoker* talk about vampires and wear a garlic necklace. She also has two guys with popped black collars, and Ramiro's long black cape made me laugh out loud. I appreciate a good Bram Stoker pun.
I think you are onto something here. If you try to differentiate the types of relationships then they suddenly become rather similar. There are several spouses verging on some sort of madness, relationships traingles, and parents desperately trying to save their children. I cannot shake the feeling that Jantje is dissecting these relationships by playing them out several times just like the simulation itself.
(I'd need to do a rewatch season 1 or see season 2 to have confidence the following idea has merit) I started connecting Maura's journey to Odysseus. Some things are inverted like Maura doesn't recognize her family vs Odysseus not being recognized by his. She is on a nearly endless aquatic journey with a giant whirlpool. There's also the lotus eaters memory loss connection. It has been long time since I read the Odyssey so maybe there are more parallels that I can't remember.
Did anybody notice that, in one scene everybody in that Hall taking the sip from the cup at exactly same moment ? i wondered why... Glitch in the matrix ?
The funny thing is when Daniel is interacting with the technology embedded on the Kerberos, I couldn't help but remember that Kerberos is also a computer network authentication protocol. Look it up and you might see where I'm going with this. Also, the whole idea of synchronicity (and yes, read the lyrics to The Police's song) has a LOT to do with the logic of the series. Just blue-skying here.
Some very good reasoning there, Sir! 👏 Yes, Brexit, but I hope it's going to be about the importance or advantage of overcoming prejudice and finding a way to work together, especially in the face of adversity.
If we’re talking about artificial intelligence, maybe Maura and Daniel are the first AIs to produce a true artificially-generated intelligence, only it had to be turned off because he had, like, bugs. The aesthetic of the most advanced technology we see is either steampunk, or it’s CRT monitors and simple text-based mainframe computers. More 1999 than 2099, and if and it’s worth looking at what the EU was doing that year, specifically the week this show takes place in.
I think the image is important. I've seen a lot of people dismissing a a large chunk of the story as "well it happened in the simulation so it's not really important". I don't think the creators of Dark would use so much filler story.
Nyx is the son.. he is trying to wake her up and he is the only one that is locked up. I think the captain. (I'm really leaning towards Angel) is Zeus for some reason but I can't pinpoint it
5:40 Hey Anthony. I looked into the source of the statue (as I said, Pergamon museum is still on my bucket list). The "Nyx" was also at some time presumed to portray Persephone, goddess of the underworld, wife of Hades and daughter of Demeter and Zeus. So this is obviously interesting as Herc is Zeus' son and these two might represent Ciaran and Maura, Henry's children. But then again... am I mistaken or did the simulation always run for nine days? Is it nine or eight? Oddly the Greater Mysteries of Elusis sacred rites of Demeter and Persephone lasted nine days (so was it nine?). Weirdly the English Wikipedia entry speaks of 10 days including the 14th of Boedromion but also notes that the rites officially started on the 15th. Beforhand I presumed that Virginia as a "frequent traveller", the only one with the intention to return to Europe, might represent Persephone. Then again my assumption that Eyk might represent Charon completely ignores his crew. Maura as Persephone has the benefit that her and Daniel are the king and queen of this underworldly realm. Even Maura as Nyx makes sense as she is the mother of Hypnos, the personification of sleep and Thanatos, death. Hypnos lives in the house of Nyx in the underworld near the river Lethe... drinking from this river causes the drinker to forget his former life. But then again the female in the fries is nowadays counted as one of six goddesses. Three of which (including the "Nyx") are presumed to be the Moirai, the fates. The "Nyx" is presumed to be Clotho, the spinner. She spins the thread of life and is associated to birth... and basically the characters in the simulation are given a new fate, a new life. And then there is Elliott of whom we still don't really know if he is Maura's biological child (and Daniel was right that her memory was altered to believe she could not have children) or some artifical contruct she (and Daniel, who would then probably lie,) created . So maybe this ambiguousness is exactly the thing that bo and Jantje would pick for the show. Depending on which goddess you assume is shown in the fries, you deduce different aspects of Maura's character.
7:17 You might also wanna mention WHY Prometheus stole fire for the humans. Zeus wanted to get rid of the humans. Lightning is basically the one (natural) source of fire beforehand and without it humans were expected to starve and die off. So Prometheus, who is also assumed to have formed the first humans from clay, had pity with them and stole fire from the gods.
So my assumption would be that the female, whether is is Nyx, Persephone, or Clotho is representing Maura. Zeus is Henry and the one stealing from him, Prometheus, is Daniel. Hercules is Ciaran. Which is funny because we did a lot of stuff with Cerberus but Herc/Ciaran didn't show up at all to wrestle it. But yeah of course, Daniel is wrestling Cerberus very much and trying to bring it up from the underworld. So maybe the family ties aren't as important... or maybe it is more ambiguous and the relationships shift several times throughout the show. Maybe Henry will turn out to be a Prometheus figure as he tries to give humanity the reality that Maura is withholding.
i want to know what was the third ship of the Prometheus Class of ocean liners and it's not Hercules it's Herakles , both statues of Herakles and Prometheus being on either side of the mural it shows wich ship is wich as the ships are also present in the picture
I am not sure but i think jerome and clemense character is slightly different from the other characters.. jerome suddenly appears in the boat from the sea when premtheous has been found..and when he first talk with clemense, she asked him if she knew him before..and also there whole conversation kinda about prison .like they are captivated and they know it..and when daniel change codes and every character goes in one another past but also escape from there one by one and came back to the boat..but how clemnse and jerome escape from there was not shown.. In general this two characters has lot tea to spell in next season i think..
Except that Jerome didn't come from the sea, he was a stowaway in the coal bunker. It is Daniel that came from the sea and in my view, he can swam over from the Prometheus. And I don't really remember Clémence saying that to Jerome but then again I haven't rewatched that part yet. However, when Maura has her first conversation with Daniel after catching him trying to get into her cabin, after their introductions she walks closer to him and looks in his face and asks him if perhaps they had met before, because he looks somehow familiar. And it is a great moment in retrospect, because the look on his face including a bit of sadness when he replies is just amazing. He says, No, no I don't think so. And then he goes into his cabin.
I believe it is Lucien who asks Clémence if she and Jérôme know each other. They obviously do since she recognizes him right away the first time she sees him on board.
I honestly think after watching season one, that 1899 is simply not going to be anywhere near as layered and complex as Dark. I really feel that the creators have dialed down everything for new audiences. And I noticed something while rewatching the final scene. After Maura wakes up from the simulation she reads her brother's message: "Welcome to reality". It would have made more sense for his message to have said "Welcome BACK to reality"..... 🤔

What about Virginia for Nyx? She is a madam so a Lady of the Night

Reality is relative in 1899.
Why? If every reality she experiences is a reality he creates then its spot on
When will episode 2 breakdown will come
Do you have any idea ( Any philosophical or scientific ) why they specifically used 1899 as the title?
Nice bomb-drop: "Ada doesn't exist"
Could you be a little more vague and ambiguous?
