I am going to sand the steps and risers on the pitch pine staircase would Osmo 3089 anti slip polly oil be better that the one you used ?also what is the best way to take off the varnish on the handrails spindles before oiling
Thanks for the tips. We are in the middle of sanding old shellac from very old hemlock floorboards and are considering Osmo as a finish. I notice that you used a brush rather than the 3m white pads. Is that because you were doing a maintenance coat as opposed to starting from raw wood?
Hi. Yes. But I can brush quite easily so it doesn't bother me to use it... Also I like to feel the amount of osmo I'm applying... With a roller/pad it's not so easy to judge. A larger area I would just cut in with brush then use the application pad/roller system. On yours... You're sure it's shellac that's on now?
Hi phil.im using osmo on an oak handrail and risers etc on a stairs.i would nt say there s a lot to do so I was thinking just using cloth and micro fibre tac cloth to apply rather than brush.if I did it with a cloth do you think I'd be able to apply a second coat before 4 hours ??
No, don't over think it, it's a wax oil, follow the instructions, apply it but don't over apply, you don't want pools of it. Just brush it out and lay off.
hi, are they bare pine? if so, i'd look at using waterbased floor varnish (clear) its easy to apply dries fast and once done you don't need to be doing anything else to it. I do find osmo oil will attractthe dirt of hands etc if you touch it. (like when people say they'll wax doors)
Great looking job Phil 👍
Thanks 👍

is there anything on the oak now?
Hi Phil, should I think about buffering after? or wiping the oil off as its wet?

Ordered normal drying version of this for new oak handrail and banister. Used there door oil about 4 years ago. Seems good stuff
Hi, would this be any good on new pine spindles or is there any other Osmo products more suitable
Cheers
