Few people were a fan of the movie, but the soundtrack was a huge success spawning radio play for at least five of the songs. The play takes only the basic outline of the story and then pumps it up into a great staqge show.
Having seen Kerry Butler in Xanadu and also Hairspray and shop Little Shop of Horrors, she can sing wonderfully. But, please remember the she is working here as a comedic actress! I have no doubt the she will find her own "Bernadette Peters" role in the future!
they didn't lipsync, the sound was unsynchronized to the video, it was like that during the showing of the parade as well, they've done that with every live performance now since the Janet Jackson incident at the Super Bowl
OMG, my boyfriend took me for Valentine's Day. It was so good. The songs in the middle of the show are not that memorable, but the opening and the end are so feel good, you just want to dance. And the comedic leads were just that.....they stole the show!
I can't wait to see it in Chicago in January. Max Von Essen is in it as Sonny, and I'm excited about that because I wanted to see him in "Dance of the Vampires" until some people screwed with the story and it failed. I wish I saw it with Curtis Holbrook as Sonny...he's so cute!!!
I couldn't tell if she was purposely forgetting the lyrics / giving the crazy eye / doing that freaky "for you." I have to see this play just to laugh the whole way through it.
Everything was on purpose... it's totally tongue -in-cheek, except the lyrics part (which I didn't notice). I've seen the show twice and will see it again happily.
To be honest, I'm hoping to miraculously get money to go to Germany and see that show as well...although I hope it doesn't disappear before I get the fundage....
Actually, it is a period piece set in 1980, so the shorts are exactly the right length. And besides, there is a line in the show about it being children's theatre to gay guys. When I saw it, no straight guys stormed out in ahuff because there was a hot guy on stage in short-shorts.
@LaughXLiveXLove13 If she's trying to sound like Olivia, why isn't he trying harder to sound like Jeff Lynne? If one singer is going to give a mimetic performance, shouldn't they all? I haven't seen the show, nor do I know much about the nuance and subtlety of Broadway parodies. All I know is what I've seen online; it looks like a pretty good show.
kerry is an amazing singer but this play does not do her justice. she doesn't sound like herself & her voice is normally extremely BEAUTIFUL. she just sounds okay here.
It's a really cute story. Keira, the muse, comes to Earth as an Aussie rollergirl, but she's never been human before so she's not very good at the accent.
Sorry, I could do better. I'm not being conceited either -- her voice sounds weird and NOTHING like the original movie. WTF. I'm just sad. Another musical messed up like that? Are they lipsynching????
MMM i dont know i want to see this musical im satraight, and i dont think people should think of a this as for women or gays only not for straight men. Yet seeing our society kind of stereotypical i dont blame the guys they must be affraid of judgement or something. No?
Congratulations to the Kerry Butler and the cast of Xanadu! Four Tony Award nominations including Best Musical and Best Leading Actress in a Musical!

I LOVE CHEYENNE SO SO SO MUCH...!
AAAHHHH!
His vocals are just absolute pure gold, and he is just so stunningly beautiful. He amazes me.

That man has an amazing everything!!!
Just saw the show on Broadway. It was so good. I can't wait to see it again.
I saw Kerry live on Broadway in Little Shop. She was amazing. It was the last show I wanted to see, but it was worth the money.
That song is "All Over The World" original performed by ELO from the Xanadu film soundtrack. It got a lot of radio play back in 1980.
Thanks for posting that video. Didn't know they were doing it, so i missed it on TV. =)
I'm very excited about Max von Essen as Sonny! I saw DOTV twice and he was just great in it.
shorts can never be short...look just fine to me!
It's September 2 as I make this entry, so that means that the 2008 edition is just around the corner. I am looking forward to it.
See the show before you form an opinion! I just saw it and I hadn't had so much fun at a broadway show in a long time. REALLY good show!
I WANT THAT DRESS!!!
I would love to see this. i wish it would go on tour.
God he is so fucking beautiful.
their last show is november 6th at 4 o'clock

They still did a damn good job, it is probably harder for them to lipsync.
Less than 9 months until the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. 3-1-08
...i wish they were singing live.
2:32
what the hell was that
kerry seems like she's got a celine dion and olivia newton john vocal mix! It works great for the show - she's an amazing performer!
Rock those short shorts, Cheyenne!
Love it.
George Vreeland Hill
when ur dancing the cold is very refreshing
I couldn't tell if she was purposely forgetting the lyrics / giving the crazy eye / doing that freaky "for you." I have to see this play just to laugh the whole way through it.
I love the accent

Pay attention to the video at the beginning. The hosts here explain the plot.
The last show is Oct. 12 :P
The show close this sunday. They moved it up.
3:26, LOVE IT!
To be honest, I'm hoping to miraculously get money to go to Germany and see that show as well...although I hope it doesn't disappear before I get the fundage....
ive just booked tickets for july hope is good! got a good deal-60 a ticket.
the 80's came back with a vengeance, eek. XD At least The Little Mermaid isn't the only show on Broadway with roller skates or Heelies
ken nelson is my cousinnn so happy this video is here
@jerrybutts30 She was the original Penny.
In July, Cheyenne will be out doing another show and Curtis Holbrook will be replacing him. Not sure how he'll fill out the shorts..but enjoy!!
I LOVE HIM TOO~!!!!!!! Le Sigh........
Was that James Gandolfini clapping at the end?
She's got a sweet voice! what is her name?

I think that was James Gandolfini haha (aka. Tony Soprano)
This is just comical.

There's is absolutely NOTHING wrong with this performance.
The only problem is that this show does not work out of context. It's a spoof!
That guy would be Cheyenne Jackson.
This is ALMOST as bad as the house called "Xanadu" that used to be in Kissimme in Florida (on the 192)
I know..Cheyenne Jackson in cutoff shorts, wiggling his hips :p *sigh*
A Movie Dearest blog featured video. See my profile for the link and playlists!
i actually don't think Cheyenne has a very cute face, but holy crap those are some amazing thighs! He could probably kill someone with those quads.
She would be a good Elle Woods.
Jeff Lynne is the unsung hero...
Looks like a great musical.
Don't like the fact the guy's shirt is pink; but whatever floats his boat.
@aokay36 Long Live Olivia Newton-John!!!!
yeah but few can really sound like Olivia
Is this some kind of sick joke?
ijust say the play and it rocks ! I heard the oringanl was very bad
The movie sucked, but this looks great. I love the music
OK that's a funny musical...but...i still prefer the movie...those cheesy 80's!
I can't understand a word she's saying. Has she even heard the word DICTION!?
Pretty darn bad....
