I miss Pontiac
Sure GM spent a fortune in the fledgling auto magazine in hopes that car and driver will write a great fluff piece on the next GM product with a dinky little turbo charged 2 cylinder unreliable engine
They can bring back the name but that doesn't mean they're bringing back Pontiac.
Pontiacs and Chevys are very similar. They used to be different, but now they will just be a rebadged Chevy with a different grill.
GM got sued because chevette valve covers on a caddie customer was sure it was a different engine
they were rebadged Holdens until GM shut down the Australian division....plus, they already sell a bunch of rebadged Daewoos.🧐🤑💰🤣🤣
Yep agreed.
Are? Chevy doesn't sell cars anymore, just a truck, SUV and the corvette, GM sells no roadsters, muscle cars, basic sports cars, or performance cars, just the corvette and expensive luxury cadillac, that's why pontiac would have a place. A roadster or basic sports car, performance sedan/coupe and a muscle car which GM does not sell anymore, there's no chevrolet's TO rebadge unless pontiac wants to sell a truck, SUV, or corvette 🤣
The NASCAR connection would make a lot of sense. Pontiacs are part of NASCAR history dating back to the 60's. I think Timmy leaving Dodge is more of a forced-out thing. His Overlords know his services are not needed anymore due to the backlash over the EV Charger roll out. They know even Tim can't keep the Mopar faithful on board. Chevy has the Corvette and GM sees the loyal following that Pontiac has and may see this as a way to Capitalize on it.
I’d love to see them resurrect the brand but they really need to make the cars something very special AND affordable
I'd LOVE to see Pontiac resurrected. I had a 2 door Grand Prix back in the 80's that had more buttons than a 747 cockpit! But a modern Firebird with the decal would be awesome. It'd have to have the T-Tops though, ones that don't leak this time.😀👍
That would be cool to see Tim with pontiac
Tim kuniskis is with Pontiac
@@user-pn9th9nq5m how do you know that...
It would be strange to discontinue the Camaro but bring back the firebird because they share the same platform… so it would be just replacing it with the same car?
They did the same with the monte carlo and impala.
A true relaunch of Pontiac would bring a huge amount of capital and loyal customers to GM. This is the most undervalued asset GM owns. If they keep it about the absolute best of the best internal combustion engine and performance handling technology, and keep it relatively low frills, they’d make a killing!
Yes much appreciated for your Input If your for PONTIAC you yourself know that to truly bring back the good memories The designers must have a all powerful Pontiac Drive train and the true spirit that is Pontiac For We Drive Excitement PERIOD Thank you
as a kid i always wanted a pontiac but never got the chance. now that i'm older and can afford such cars.. i'd love to see a revival!!
I’m not a GM fan at all, but I really miss Pontiac. I’d love to see them return. If the Camaro turns electric or is just axed they’d need something. Unless they’re going to go the Toyota route (Camry) and use the Malibu (yelch!).
Chevy recently announced the Malibu will cease production on November 4, 2024
The firebird is an Indian Phoenix that has risen from the dead.
Looks like a Camaro with firebird stickers to me
I have liked many brands but Pontiac was my favorite car brand (had 17). I was in high school from 70-74, also greatly liked the Barracuda (especially in 73 & 74 when most other cars now had the big bumpers). I had always hoped that the Challenger would have been resized to be more like the original 70-74 size (if so I would have bought one). The recent Chargers were pretty nice, just wish with all the years they made them and the volume of sales, that they would have at least offered a "2 door" model (if so I would have bought one). Mustang has pretty much gotten the retro thing right since 2005 (I bought a 2006 and 2013) as the Camaro was also too big and fat also. I had hoped that they too would have been resized to be more like the 69 in size (if so I would have bought one). The 2004-2006 GTO was probably a good car but it was not retro like the Challenger and for us older Pontiac lovers it did not bring back "the good old days". I had a 1977 Pontiac Can Am and that car made me feel like I was back in the "good old days". Pontiac suffered from poor direction. They had great names like Bonneville, Grand Prix, Firebird, etc. that meant something to a lot of people and it went to G8, G6 and even lesser liked "no name" cars that had no identity. If the Car & Driver ad was a joke, I just don't get it. I would love to have Pontiac come back. In the world of SUVs and trucks I would go out and buy a Pontiac "car". There would never be a Pontiac dealership again but they could easily be sold out of Buick/GMC dealerships as Buick and Pontiac could hit two different markets and at least add some excitement to the Buick dealerships. Someone needs to be up front about the Car & Driver ad and let the facts be known. Pontiac would celebrate 100 years in 2026, that would be great timing!
There is Trans Am Depot that builds them still. Look them up
That isn’t a real Pontiac Firebird
In 2004, Kevin Morgan got the AutoCAD designs off of Chevy for the new Camaro and permission to make the new Firebird. He joined up with Trans Ams of America and they have been putting out Trans Ams since.
TK it's Super Interesting.
1) A full page Pontiac Ad out of nowhere ( And it's not April Fools, a June issue
2) Tim K. rolls out
3) The Ad even talks about the Dodge Cars (The Whole Splitter Guards thing)
And 4) The Motor and Drivetrain almost exactly is the C8 ERay hybrid/V8 with almost the same Horsepower...
If this is a joke, it's a pretty strange one...
I personally would absolutely love to see the return of the Trans AM GTA with T- Tops. I would buy it in a heartbeat even though I already own a Scatpack and a Hellcat Redeye. SOOOOOO WORTH IT!!!!!!!
I would love to see Oldsmobile back. I love my G. Body!!
If they do I just hope it’s not electric
Maybe they will be back the Trans AM or GTO
Someone definitely testing the waters i don't think we would get a full brand revival maybe its something like how the hummer came back and we would have a chevy trans am lol but if it did fully come back it would probably expand on hybrid muscle like the E-Ray.
Well, there has not been a real Pontiac from the late 70's. The 80's on Pontiacs were Chevy or Olds powered Chevy cars with the trim changed. There is an aftermarket company that changes Camaros into Trans Ams by changing out the body panels. The late GTO's were imports with the trim changed. As a guy who was raised in a Pontiac family and my first car was a 74 SD_455 Trans Am, all you are doing when you change trim on a Chevy and call it a Pontiac without Pontiac power is upset me. I call BS on this. By the way, it is a "screaming chicken" in Pontiac circles and I was one of the few who did not have one on my car.
I have always been a Pontiac fan before the challenger came back I think I had 4 or 5 trans ams I would like to see what they can do with the brand
It'd be great to see Pontiac return. Just give them their own design team. Make Pontiac cars look aggressive, sporty and like nothing on the road today. My 98 Y87 Firebird turns so many heads and gets a lot of compliments. Younger people don't even know what it is and never even heard of a Firebird.
I honestly hope Pontiac does come back !
I think Pontiac would make a comeback. Make a redesign of the trans am with the golden eagle on the hood
2:33 THIS. And we all know modern GM does not like standalone models not named Corvette…so this gives them a financial rationale to stay in the CAR game at Cadillac, too.
They’d obviously need to do something about Firebird, too…and there’s been buzz about some new form of Camaro, so perhaps that’s solved as well. And a, say, three-model Pontiac lineup could work really well under the same roof as a Buick/GMC dealership.
That to me sounds not like a pipe dream but a business case. So BRING IT, GM.
The should return with stand alone models that are second to none. These could be boutique cars or a shortened roster for models . Say a line up of GTO , Firebird , Catalina , Bonneville, and Grand Prix . I for one want an exceptional driving road car with Wide Track not some cross over vehicle .
Pontiac was killed off in the last major market downturn as part of the GM Bankruptcy/Bailout. We are now in the next market downturn, so unless GM marketing is testing the waters with eyes many years into the future, it won't happen. I would love to see Pontiac come back as a niche, performance brand. Legit performance though, not more fwd rebadge crapp w/ cheap plastic gaudy ground effects and toy like interiors of the 80's through early 00's.
Stellantis is bringing back the Plymouth Duster with the mighty slant six hemi version.....🤯🤣🤣🤣🤷
I thought they were bringing back the cuda
Interesting
Don’t hold your breath folks. But I’d buy a GTO before anything from this Stellantis company.
I'm guessing that GM is just trying to gauge interest at this point. However it would be amazing to see Pontiac come back as an arm of GM again with one or two American designed and built performance cars. Perhaps one HP focused beast car and one milder sport focused car, something fun to drive that would make driving something you want to do. Not everyone wants a SUV or pickup truck, there might be a place for GM to have Pontiac as the car division.
It's not a Pontiac without a Pontiac engine. Lets see a modern turbo 301.
Put a twin turbo 3.6 in the corvette and a Pegasus on the hood!
Mary B says NO
A trans am with that engine would be $70000+
A Pontiac firebird T-top AWD EV that is not 5800 lbs. 800v architecture. I would sell my soul for one.
Would be epic
As much as I wish this were so, it is very unlikely.
It is awfully coincidental that this ad is spreading throughout the internet right around the time Tim Kuniskis supposedly is retiring from Dodge. Could this be a sign of something to come? I think so, but it’s best to wait and see.
The best street car I've ever owned was my 99 30th anniversary TransAm 6 spd. I love Mopars but you can't go wrong with an easily modded LS.
I think Car & Driver had an open slot and asked themselves, "What minor controversy could we stir up that would increase our print sales?"
Why would they give out such specific HP numbers if something was not already being tested?
actually I'd rather drive an Olds
Come on GM stop doing. Stupid Shit. Bring Pontiac back!!
Not to be left out, Ford is throwing the Nascar V8 into the Edsel....🤯🤔🧐🤣🤣🤣🤷
sir i hope is true i miss them and in nascar
I do not know if it is true or not . I would hope that it is not a joke. It is a bad one if it is. There are valid points made for Pontiac's return in the video. If anything, GM needs to bring three brands: Pontiac and Oldsmobile and Holden( GM Australia). They brought Hummer back and sell them through the GMC network. Not everyone wants or has use for a crossover and suv. That is what the market is in the United States. Pontiac and Oldsmobile would have to be boutique brands within GM and not full line like Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac. GM recognizes there is an issue with Buick in the United States and they are trying to revamp it and rebuild it in the United States. Buick in China sells three sedans: La Crosse, Regal, and Verano. Cadillac sells three in China: CT4, CT5, CT6. If you position the brands correctly, it could work. Not everyone wants a Chevrolet either. You could sell Pontiacs at the Buick GMC dealers. You could sell Oldsmobile at Chevrolet and Cadillac dealers. It would give Chevrolet dealers something to step up to ( Hyundai/Genesis)and Cadillac dealers something to bring buyers in. They sold Oldsmobile at Cadillac and Chevrolet dealers for years. This would give GM a way to build and sell expressive sedans and coupes at a good value. The Holdens would have to be exported from the United States and modified to Australia tastes and Holden and Oldsmobile and Pontiac have worked together before. GMC makes GM money. They may sell the same vehicles as Chevrolet. but they make money. Think of Pontiac as the GMC car line. Think of Oldsmobile as the Mercury of Lincoln as it once was and entry level luxury of Chevrolet. Just my thoughts.
Tommy, of The Fast Lane, says that the GM rep he corresponded with declared the ad fake, and C & D's doing. Why C & D would punk and piss off their subs like that, I'm trying to figure out.
Oh yeah
Hope it happens
This is no gag. Pontiac is bound to make a massive return because there is a new generation of Pontiac fans that would own a Pontiac.
The advertisement cost about $300,000.00, Why would it be an April Fools in May?
Add was made by the magazine not gm..
The guys that car and driver are laughing their butts off
I think GM will dump Buick ( selling it to China market) and bringing back the Pontiac V-8 product.🤔🤔🤔🤔
So, the Camaro lives on as a Trans-Am? The Firebird is a Phoenix that will rise from the ashes? Clever story for GM to push and keep the Sedan alive until people get sick of SUVs and want actual cars again.
Nothing official about it. GM said it’s all Car and Driver.
Stellantis is a EUROPEAN company and will convert America to EV whether America likes it or not. Or better put try to. Stellantis' web site says that it is going all electric. YOU will be electrified by its all EV lineup. Stellantis can somewhat cook its books as cars are sold to the dealers and the crud doesn't hit the fan until dealers don't take Stellantis' cars. Assuming there is a market for muscle cars in the future then someone else will have to make them.
Idgaf right now would be the ultimate FU to the feds and EV and bring back the WS6
I already said it he’s going to Chevy which is gm or ford
I would like to see Pontiac come back, but it won't. In 10 years we may not have any gasoline sedans or SUVs left.
A Pontiac with a chevy engine is NOT a Pontiac. 🤮👺👎
This is why Dodge people should stay in their lane
I call it BS. And I love Pontiac.
GM CEO Mary Barra won’t do it.
Bring Back the GTO...not a holden...an actual GTO
I'm sure there's a Cadillac rwd platform for that.
And GTO!
GM will sell off Buick, and try to get the Pontiac brand back. Tim has been handcuffed by Stallintis! The GTO coming back?!🤔🤔👍
I'll bet Carlos let Tim go.
You could take a cow turd and stick the Pontiac name on it. That would not make it a Pontiac.🤨
WS6 suspension might help.
😅pontiac forever
Firebird going be like Camaro body
Marketing gimmick
But, marketing for what?
The ad was a joke. Pontiac is not coming back. Unless they try to stick the name on some POS EV thinking it would help sales (it wouldn't). And NASCAR makes its own cars. Actual stock car racing ended in the mid '80s. The car manufacturers don't have anything to do with cars used by NASCAR anymore. And the cars they are currently using are absolute GARBAGE. Computerized everything, huge diameter GHETTO wheels, NASCAR is DEAD.
