If I just close my eyes and listen to this hymn unaware of who is singing, I would believe it to be the Tabernacle Choir Yet these heavenly voices are actually a young adult choir of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from the Missionary Training Center (MTC) who are preparing to serve voluntary missions all over the world It just amazes me how all the various choirs be they youth, young adult, etc that sing in the Church's Conference Center, how they all sing so well as to sound just like the Tabernacle Choir itself! Wonderful and so peaceful.

The Catholics have contributed immensely to the repertoire of Christian music that bless the lives and worship of people in many other Christian denominations, the lyrics of this hymn being one of them. Your comment about it being a “Mormon arrangement” made me wonder if the tune (by John B. Dykes) was unfamiliar to you, or just the “arrangement” (because this is a Mack Wilberg “arrangement” using Dykes’s tune). I suspect that you’re familiar with another tune, since there appear to be three. See: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead,_Kindly_Light Just to be clear, this tune was composed by the Anglican (Dykes), which is here arranged by Wilberg (a “Mormon.”) And apparently you’re not the only one who prefers the Catholic version (assuming the tune is “Alberta.”) According to Wikipedia, Dykes’s tune “has been criticised for its Victorian sentimentality, and . . . Dykes' once-popular tune has fallen out of favour, while Harris's Alberta has gained popularity.” Of course, we love this tune. It’s the only one I know for “Lead, Kindly Light.”
