Very kind words and I genuinely appreciate your enthusiasm for the channel. I have a few reviewers that I follow like author Bret Easton Ellis who has a podcast devoted to film culture. But because it is behind a paywall it rarely seems to be discovered by anyone.
Absolutely worth hunting down. Like with any Golden Palm winner, it will get inevitably overhyped but no matter what a lot of people are going to enjoy it.
I haven’t seen “The Florida Project” and “Red Rocket,” but I think the Academy (Oscars) should take notes on Anora, which I saw yesterday at Enzian Theater and I loved it. Easily one of my early 5 contenders for the best movie of the year.
This guy's really sharp, as a razor when it comes to his research. He said Mikey Madison , might be a future horror movie "scream" queen. Mikey Madison was in the second to last Scream movie! Coincidentally she gets burned to death and literally screams in both SCREAM and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. In one she is lit up with a flamethrower and the other she falls on a stove. She actually stood out in SCREAM and seemed like one of the more charismatic members of the cast next to Jenna Ortega. Since the movie has been out for awhile I'll say she ended up being one of a half of a killer duo and kind of embodied the psychotic spirit we saw in the first movie Matthew Lilliard getting such a high from being a killer. I can't believe her appearance in that movie went right over this dude's head. Madison actually seemed like she was about to breakout and would probably move on to be in something more gritty and realistic. I think paying an Eastern European descended young stripper because of her exotic looks in an independent film kind of made sense. I think with her talent and presence onscreen she may really blow up. Defenitely will get an it girl following. I can't say Sean Baker's stuff appeals lately to me. The new movie kind of reminds me of Harmony Korine's gritry realis, well semi, in Spring Breakers or The Safie Brothers work. I've wanted to see Florida Project for awhile for Willem Dafoe's performance but keep forgetting about it but might check this Mikey Madison movie out because I really wanted to see what she was gonna do after SCREAM! I gues she doesn't get burned to death at the end of this film, or does she?
I haven't seen any Scream movies since Wes Craven died but it sounds like I might have one more that I need to see. As far as your final comment goes, you'll just have to wait and see, lol.
Nice! I'll hunt it down. And if memory serves, I remember you ranting and raving on behalf of 'The Florida Project'. I still need to hunt that one down.
Between all the buzz from festivals and how much I've enjoyed other Baker films that I've seen, this is definitely my most hyped release for the rest of the year.
It's nice to see that neorealism keeps its cultural significant power. Sean Baker in this Way, is a real antidode to all the D+Greenscreen Plastic. As long we have him, and Todd Haynes and P.T Andersen, the hope for cinema remains.
Agreed. The movie biz definitely has more than its fair share of challenges these days, but every Fall I'm reminded that there are still some legitimate auteurs out there doing great work.
James is by far the best reviewer we have, in fact he is the only one I will watch nowadays. Keep up the good work sir, I never miss a review.

I agree, really my main go-to reviewers for a while now have been James Hancock and Maggie from a channel called Deepfocuslens.
Agree completely
check out DeepFocusLens. Kermode is still great as well IMO
A very nice review. Your delivery was perfect! I stay subbed to your channel to hear about films like this that pull no punches. Thanks!
Much obliged! Always a pleasure calling attention to hardcore movies like 'Anora' in an era of so many bland, interchangeable franchises.
James thanks for this review. Going to put this on "my movies to watch" list.
Absolutely worth hunting down. Like with any Golden Palm winner, it will get inevitably overhyped but no matter what a lot of people are going to enjoy it.
Big Sean Baker fan. His movies always feel raw and never feel so manufactured. Great to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for listening and fingers crossed this movie can find the audience it very much deserves when it gets released on 10/18.

Great job. Surprised you haven't seen The Florida Project. That's the first one of his that I saw.

Sean Baker’s Letterboxd is extensive and joyous.

@@geekinwithJamesHancock Just proves that the man can do anything.
Between all the buzz from festivals and how much I've enjoyed other Baker films that I've seen, this is definitely my most hyped release for the rest of the year.
You won't be disappointed. It's a perfect companion piece to Starlet, Tangerine and Red Rocket, and for my money, the best of them all.
I can’t wait to see anora. It reminds me of my own life just from the trailers. Like scarily and I have a feeling it’ll make me emotional.
It's an emotional whirlwind. Hope you enjoy the experience as much as I did!

When is the shrouds coming out?
I'm seeing a release date of January 22nd, 2025, but I have a press screening for it this coming Thursday.
Thought it would come out in Octobre =(
The Florida project is his best movie for me, it's absolutely not how you described it its quite intense as well.
Got it! I was just going from some synopsis I saw somewhere but it is absolutely on my to-do list.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Your going to love it, its gritty and edgy just like the others.
