Fran, even though you can’t see us in your vlogs, we can see you, and I hope this doesn’t sound weird but I feel that whenever I watch your videos, it’s like an old friend catching me up on their life. I’m glad you share the good illustration days and the not so good ones because it is a completely normal and natural creative process, and reassures artists to keep going regardless of the tricky times. Your illustrations bring a lot of joy to many people. 😊
These vlogs are inspiring. I've been wanting to start a RUclips channel similar to this for a long time but have wondered, while I'm watching yours, who's gonna want to watch me draw and or talk about it. Then I wake up and realize I'm doing exactly that. Subscribing to great channels like yours. Haha. Thanks for sharing.
Do you guys just literally start drawing? Don't you have to draw that Loomis head first then start drawing all those planes of the Asaro head. How come your drawings look normal and you don't draw any of those guides first? I'm still at the level of turning circles into spheres by the way. I just bought an XP pen and on their site people uploaded their art and they are all wonkey! All the faces are off! I even saw one artist who sells canvas for $2000 each and she can't draw face that aren't front on, the minute they turn the features become all wonky like the mouth is off to the side or the nose is facing forward while the rest of the face is turned slightly! It's scary!
Your vlogs are LITERALLY part of my self care routine!!! They help me unwind and it makes my day when i see youve uploaded a new video! Please don’t ever think we get bored!!
OK ONE THING I GOTTA SAY: I appreciate it so SO MUCH that you show us the parts of your job that are out of your comfort zone, or that you're struggling with creatively, like the graphic novel for example. When I started out as an illustrator, I basically thought YAY everything will be easy from now on because I love drawing and I won't struggle with anything - HA. But the thing is: excellence comes from the combination of doing what you love, but also doing the parts of it you don't particularly enjoy at first, so that you can expand your skill set and learn to tell different stories. The grind shapes you into the diamond that you are! Did that make sense? Long story short: thank you, dear Fran, for always encouraging us to step outta our comfort zones as well, whether consciously or unconsciously doing that, and thank you for being such an amazing human ❤️
I am grateful you share these struggleling moments because that's how I feel about doing paintings with acrylics. It helps to know that this is a normal part of being artistic
don't worry, i'm never bored and will never get bored by your studio vlogs !!!! I love the way you edit them, this so peacefull and quiet. This just what I need when i feel bad !!!
I am never bored of watching you create... I look so forward to your blogs and the positive vibe I always get from watching- you are putting good things out in the world... you should be proud of that 💖
i've told my students to use references for poses countless times already. seeing you taking pic of yourself for reference is what i encourage them to do everytime they struggle with the ways limbs supposed to look like in poses
Your videos put me in a peaceful and productive state of mind and I love your work and your studio and the way you talk. Please never stop making videos.
Definitely not bored! These videos are so eye-opening for aspiring creatives and also the most relaxing. I'd watch you live stream from there all day! lol (Not in a creepy way)
i really love this vlog, makes me feel so happy, inspired and less lonely specially in the part that you were strugguling with the drawing cause that happened to me so much, and makes feel a bit better that i am not the only one, thank you Fran love you
Happy Friiiiiiday Fran! Thank you for sharing some of your process, and no, we never get bored of Vlogs. Also, I loved the expressions you captured in your frustrated spread. You are fantastic and your language is perfect!
Yay Fran! I've been doing Fun Fridays since October and so happy to hear that you are doing something similar! I spend my entire work day on Fridays playing in my sketchbook or making illustrations or taking fun online classes and it has boosted my creativity and productivity soooooo much all week. I felt a little guilty at the beginning but now that I've noticed how much I gain from it, it feels great and is the best ending to my work week. Also you will never be boring, you are seriously the best to listen to. I wish your videos were hours long. Hugs from Sweden
I get so excited when I wake Saturday morning to find a new Fran video 😀 Love seeing the process from thumbnail sketch to final drawing, especially the timelapse.
Hello, I just wanted to take the time to say that I love your artwork and I’ve lived off of it since I was 12-13. When I was beginning with art, I would look at some of your art stuff, and like most kids I would feel like crap for not drawing good enough. Now that I’m much older and have since then improved, I can say with full on gumption that I am proud to have known someone as talented and gifted as you!! I hope you keep up the good work and keep drawing like you always do! Be happy and stay safe
I could watch hours of these vlogs and not get bored. Every time I’m blessed with one, I always feel safe and at peace. They truly are a balm to the soul.😌❤️
I absolutely love the street noise. No joke they sound exactly like what I choose for my relaxing white noise when I can't sleep..LOL Thank you for showing all of this! It is refreshing to see a professional illustrator be so authentic and human. I needed this so much!
24:00 I've been feeling this emotion so vividly recently and I didn't know what it was, it's being scared to jump off of a really high diving board, and you are goading yourself and feeling the fear at the same time. Doing the actual drawing is like forcing yourself to do complex maths.
With all the realness in your studio blogs there will never really be time or opportunity for them to be boring. Thank you for the raw and unedited version of the life of an artist, both the struggles, the highs and the path in between. Loved the filming of yourself bit, it’s such a useful tip for drawing poses 🙏
I live for your studio vlogs Fran! I do have to say though that the floor seemed to be in the wrong perspective as well. A good exercise is to have a photo of a building or room in perspective, draw the perspective lines over it to understand how it works and then recreate the image using only the persp lines you drew . Hope this helped, sending lots of love from Paris 💛💛💛
I did a whole graphic novel about baseball players. I took a photo of every single pose I didn't knew how to do (pretty much every one of them!) and thanks to that the story look amazing. But yes, for sure, those pics out of context are the weirdest hahaha Y me acabo de dar cuenta de que estoy escribiendo en ingles y que vos sos de chile, EN FIN. Un abrazo desde Argentina, Fran!
Thanks for walking us through your process and being brave and authentic enough to show us the challenging moments. So fun and encouraging to watch. My gf is about to start working on graphic narrative in school and I'm totally gonna send this to her as a reference! Also your english is on point! I'm so in awe of anyone who can switch between multiple languages.
Everytime your studio vlog finish I feel like when you finish to read your favorite Novel and you keep meditate on It and you feel deeply sad because It's finished🙃 I'm never bored of your vlogs 🥰 hugs and kisses from Italy 😘
hi fran! first, i just want to say that you are absolutely magical and i love these videos very much!! 💖 now, i'm not entirely sure if this will help with perspective issues but it's helped me in the past when drawing on paper.. but i suggest maybe taking a picture of the spread/page and then importing it onto your ipad and then open it in something like procreate. you can add perspective drawing guides to line up with other things (like the bed) if you need to! then you can use the lasso tool to select the area you want to change (like the boxes) and use the arrow menu next to it once it's selected to distort/warp your selection as needed to make it look right with the rest of the spread. it's fairly quick in comparison to erasing and getting frustrated (i know that feeling so well!!. you can use the edited version as either a guide to reference, or even maybe print it out and trace over it with a lightbox. i hope that made sense and maaaybe helped? but either way, know that you're not alone in these troubles. being an illustrator is hard! but you've got this. :)
Whenever I 'step' into your studio via your vlogs, I know it will be a chill time. The piano soundtrack and the traffic out there makes me feel classy and artsy (even though I am an artist already ahahah). It literally makes me plunge into another world ; your world! Please do not belittle your own little world. Also thank you for the program recommendation, it's clearly something that I was needing too! Time just flies by when you're a dreamy artist haha
Ay Fran qué lindo verte mejor y tan sonriente!
First of all, and I think we all agree, we are never bored of you. Thank you for sharing your process, thank you for the advice and your tips, thank you for sharing your poses, thank you for sharing the existencial crisis. I am usually very lazy when I end up with a bad drawing and give up easily. Thank you for thia content.
I love your studio blogs so much!!! It inspires me even more that other videos because I'm dreaming of living in NY and have a studio, so your studio vlogs make me feel like I'm there. Thank you Fran!
Dear Fran, One of the things I loved about this video was that you showed how hard it is to do something well done. It really is scary when we have a big task ahead of us. The other was when you talked about being native in English. This week I needed to present my research in English (I am native in Portuguese) and it was very difficult !!! Thanks for that!
Love love love this!! Not boring at all and thank you for the info on references being ok, people always think we should be able to draw from scratch from memory lol. I love your outfits 😍😍😍
Fran, I just want to say, I absolutely adore all your content. It's a breath of fresh air and inspires me every time I watch something of yours. Thank you for these!!! We want more! :)
I love your studio vlogs! It makes me feel like I am being productive just by watching you be productive! And I love watching your process too! Very interesting to see how you take on difficult tasks, I hate perspective too so avoid it mostly! Xx
I feel it only fair to let you know that you studio vlogs are magic. I see the notification come through, and I get excited and I save it for as long as I can (usually can hold out about 13.4 minutes). Don't ever worry about being boring!
i love ur vlogs so much aaa.. i appreciate that u showed us a time where u were struggling n experinced a setback c: that stuff is important for people to see n validating for us fellow illustrators
loved this video and loved seeing all your process! (posing with car + taking screenshots of yourself moving to use as reference images), Really cool getting a "behind the scenes" look as an added bonus to your ever-lovely and down to earth and vulnerable moments we all come back for!
Fran! We never get bored of you💕 we actually missed you all the time you were taking time for you. I hope you are doing well. Te mando un fuerte abrazo
Firstly Frannybaby studio vlogs will never ever ever get old so let go of that one (watching people’s creative process, old? Never!), but also just wanted to share how helpful it is that you’re honest and share that you are still creating, still productive, when all the ducks aren’t in a row too 🦆 🦆 🦆 I’ve waited for so long to start my business for the right time, right mental state, right situation and I’m learning from you that you can just start and do it bit by bit even when it doesn’t FEEL like you can. Love to you from Australia xxx
I'm not bored AT ALL Fran. Whew 20 minutes is sooo long for a song. It's so interesting to see your process and how you work through creative challenges. And I make the exact same stressed face when I am getting read to write something new. I have the format and idea, all I have to do is start writing and the face comes out. Stay safe everybody.
Watching this vlog while also struggling with a drawing helped give me the will to push through! Thanks for sharing your drawings, Fran. With every page us artists persevere through, we grow a bit more!
Having gone to animation school, our teachers would be proud of your reference pictures, we had to film/take pictures of ourselves ALL THE TIME, and we couldnt continue an assignment unless we had a pinterest board or folder of 75+ references and good ones. In any art school you go to they will always say the 3 Rs of art are REFERENCE REFERENCE REFERENCE! So keep it up! Also your studio vlogs are the best to have on and draw/work with you so you never bore us!
Also! For perspective, try drawing grids on the floor of your reference pictures or beneath the feet of your characters on another page/digital layer, itll help you figure out the space of the room and you’ll be able to see where the boxes should be, or you can draw out some perspective lines if its too tricky this way. Best of luck!
I have to thank you for giving me courage to start planning for my own webtoon. I've had this idea for awhile, but have been to afraid of failure, to even start anything. Good luck with everything you do and thank you once again!
I don't remember the last time I drew anything from memory! I'm always weary of the people that give suggestions making the creative process less enjoyable. i.e drawing everything from memory! ^.^ Love your vlogs ...so enjoyable! x
Watching each attempt to understand and capture the sketches essence/perspective was so relatable! I can’t begin to express even how much I struggle like this, but also, just how much you made me want to keep trying. I’ve felt so bad when I have to take photos references for some of the most basic stuff. Similarly, artists or creatives don’t really talk about how easy it is to forget your own work or style sometimes, ya know? I have to constantly reassure my self that I am not an imposter because I can’t remember how I drew something a year ago or even 5 days ago. I think it comes from constantly shelving work/sketchbooks the second it’s done and never admiring what was accomplished. Anyways, seeing you “develop” a process to figure out the scenes reminds me of stop-motion animators and all the steps they take and that got me entirely excited to try and do the tough work. :)🧡🧡
I'm so thankful you uploaded this now bc I'm at the clinic waiting for my mom *se demoran Caleta en Chile* I felt a little anxious and then started to watch the video, so thanks Fran, for everything
16:40 made me nervous lol. also Fran please don't worry about boring us! your videos mean so much to me, I love seeing snippets from whatever you are doing that week/month :)
Hi Fran, I've only just started watching your vlogs - I'm very behind! 😆 I just wanted to thank you for sharing your life, both the good and the hard times. Since you were asking, no, you're not boring - at least I don't think so. You're keeping me company in this difficult time, especially now I'm honestly feeling very hopeless and tired. Your videos are giving me some of the joy I've lost so... thank you for doing this! ☺I'll be looking forwards to your next videos. Wish you all the best!!!
I can't wait to read your graphic novel once it's done! And it's SO insightful to see your proces. Kinda hopeful to see I'm not the only one struggling with poses and scenes/backgrounds 😅 It's a good kick in the butt to start working on a personal illustration project I've been putting off for too long! Thanks Fran 😊
I love how chill this video is, & it's super interesting seeing your process and hearing how you organise your time. Your art and studio are lovely and you're very relaxing to listen to! Looking forward to checking out more videos :D
you are right, the reference helped a lot! I mean I wouldn't have noticed at first, but when you compare them, the second one has this more realistic vibe and the car door works way better. I have to start taking pics for my drawings too.
Hey I watch but don’t comment too often. I always come to your videos first. They bring me such a sense of calm. I have a lot of chaos in my life and mental state right now. Your videos inspire me to just slow myself down and focus. X
Me, seeing a new Fran vlog: This is my favorite person in the universe! Fran is an illustration celebrity, the best! Chile!!! Fran: I worry that you guys are getting bored of me Me: 😭 So humble! So relatable! 100% good human! oh my heart
I started using Notion at the start of the year, too! It helps to keep me accountable and it also lets me see my progress, because without it I think I've done nothing but really I've done a lot of stuff. I hope you feel better -- and I started watching you in 2014 and I'm still here, ready for whatever you're willing to share!
Your reference photos really helps motivate me. I'm teaching myself how to draw and I honestly don't know where to start and I've been thinking of just drawing my own pictures. Now I just need the motivation to start drawing lol
Another vlog, yay! ❤ Fran, your vlogs cheer me up so much - I just low how honest you were about the difficulty of sketching poses. I had a really good laugh wenn I saw your face and I could relate to your feelings in that situation so much. 😂❤ Your vlogs are quality time for me - when I see that you uploaded a new one, I will go to my room, close the door, get a tea and enjoy it to the fullest, so please don't think that you are boring. You brighten my day!! ✨
Thank you for sharing how you can be overwhelmed too.. it really comforts me that I/we are not alone. 🌿 I am having it hard too with the arts, so I am taking it slow. But I hope to do better and be consistent~
There’s no way studio vlogs would ever bore us, but inspire and cheer us up 🥰
I agree. I'm going to do one soon. I post drawing videos.
I'm never bored of studio vlogs.
Never ever :3
Never.
Yess never~
"I'm afraid you'll get bored" I would adopt you if I could Fran
Fran, even though you can’t see us in your vlogs, we can see you, and I hope this doesn’t sound weird but I feel that whenever I watch your videos, it’s like an old friend catching me up on their life.
I’m glad you share the good illustration days and the not so good ones because it is a completely normal and natural creative process, and reassures artists to keep going regardless of the tricky times.

I always love when Fran says she needs to be gentle with herself
Your vlogs are LITERALLY part of my self care routine!!! They help me unwind and it makes my day when i see youve uploaded a new video! Please don’t ever think we get bored!!

Does anyone else just want to hug her and tell her you believe in her? That's she's doing an incredible job.
you're studio vlogs are my happy place. if I'm feeling down or un motivated I pop one on and they inspire me to get up and keep moving.
I don't know about anyone else but I could never get bored of you when I want MORE of you! I get so happy when I see you've posted a video!
Could literally NEVER get bored of watching your videos, Fran. I get soooooo happy when I’ve seen you uploaded on!!

I live through your videos Fran!!!
Listening to your environment and noises tale me away from my quiet, boring room.
So..... more noises are welcome!
Fran you could never bore me, the happines I felt when I saw your new video is proof of that
loved this video and loved seeing all your process!
I Love your vlogs. Can't wait to watch next one....every Time. Don't question yourself - you are wonderful.
I love your style, and how you map out bold black and handwritten type in your sketchbooks.
Watching this vlog while also struggling with a drawing helped give me the will to push through! Thanks for sharing your drawings, Fran. With every page us artists persevere through, we grow a bit more!
Thank you for your vlogs-I enjoy them... never boring! So good to see you! Huge hug!
You are not boring, you are amazing, your work too and an inspiration to all :)
FRAAAAAAN por dios no digas eso!!! Tú nunca nos aburres. Al contrario. Eres pura inspiración y paz :)
omg I get so happy when u post! these videos make my day 🌟
I don't remember the last time I drew anything from memory!
I'm always weary of the people that give suggestions making the creative process less enjoyable. i.e drawing everything from memory! ^.^ Love your vlogs ...so enjoyable! x
I love your studio vlogs!! Thank you for showing us the struggle of an artist it's so encouraging to know we aren't alone in that!
I'm so thankful you uploaded this now bc I'm at the clinic waiting for my mom *se demoran Caleta en Chile* I felt a little anxious and then started to watch the video, so thanks Fran, for everything
love artist studio day in the life vlogs...theyre almost like soothing asmr at times haha
Thanks Fran 😊
when fran was struggling on those pages i felt that
the making comics struggle is real
I love how chill this video is, & it's super interesting seeing your process and hearing how you organise your time. Your art and studio are lovely and you're very relaxing to listen to! Looking forward to checking out more videos :D
Studio vlogs are honestly my favourite thing to watch ever 😍
you are right, the reference helped a lot! I mean I wouldn't have noticed at first, but when you compare them, the second one has this more realistic vibe and the car door works way better. I have to start taking pics for my drawings too.
Dear Fran, we love your studio vlogs and your honesty. This is unique!
Starting my Saturday with your video, so inspiring, I feel very motivated right now! Thank you as always, Fran! You rock!
Hey I watch but don’t comment too often. I always come to your videos first. They bring me such a sense of calm. I have a lot of chaos in my life and mental state right now. Your videos inspire me to just slow myself down and focus. X
I love the vlogs, so please keep up with it!! You make my Friday happier every time!!
Me, seeing a new Fran vlog: This is my favorite person in the universe! Fran is an illustration celebrity, the best! Chile!!!
Fran: I worry that you guys are getting bored of me
Me: 😭 So humble! So relatable! 100% good human! oh my heart
Your vlogs inspire me to keep working on my own projects. Plus I like listening to your videos as a work too. Thank you ☺️
I started using Notion at the start of the year, too!
Your vlogs are quality time for me - when I see that you uploaded a new one, I will go to my room, close the door, get a tea and enjoy it to the fullest, so please don't think that you are boring. You brighten my day!! ✨
Thank you for sharing how you can be overwhelmed too.. it really comforts me that I/we are not alone. 🌿 I am having it hard too with the arts, so I am taking it slow. But I hope to do better and be consistent~
