  • In the final part of his interview, Rep. Raskin likens the former president to a mafia boss, who often succeeds at evading prosecution but could be taken down by the Department of Justice and the investigative work of the Jan 6 Committee. #Colbert #JamieRaskin #RepJamieRaskin

    What is more heartbreaking than losing a child? Stephen broached the subject with Jamie Raskin sensitively and Mr Raskin shared that most rawest of emotions. These are the people America needs, not the monsters that it’s had recently.

      The contrast could hardly be greater.
      You have people like Trump, Hawley and Cruz, getting up on stage, putting on an act and talking crap, knowing full well that they're talking crap to a bunch of people dumb enough to fall for it all. They have little self-respect and zero respect for their followers or their country. They all seem to be Republicans.
      Then you have real people. People who have real courage, integrity and respect. They all seem to be Democrats and I say this as someone who's never even set foot on US soil - I'm a Brit.

      @Robert Taylor Robert, is he hiding? Running away?
      If he done something wrong: arrest him, try him, convict him, jail him.
      Now if you are saying this because of something political - Stop.
      If you are under the impression that people should be arrested for doing something wrong what about all of these insurrectionists, DT, or even the Republicans who have wasted taxpayers money by tampering with election equipment?
      Is criminal activity only one sided?
      Otherwise STFU.

      I think Raskin is nonreligious. I haven't seen him specifically say so (career suicide still for a politician), but he's heavily involved with the freethought/humanist movement, including making appearances on their podcasts and such. He has said he is a humanist and refuses to answer questions about belief in god. He also co-founded the Congressional Freethought Caucus which was "established to promote policy solutions based on reason and science, and defend the secular character of government"; iow to defend secular democracy (which our founders explicitly created: the world's first openly secular democracy) from the christo fascism that has been growing on the right since the 70s.

His compassion, intelligence, and dedication to service are evident in everything he does. And in my opinion, he is the most eloquent speaker to grace *either* house of Congress since Mr. Obama left the senate. She tried to support her PARTY & came to conclusion they were just as corrupt as the toxic Orange stain. I'm not one to forget all of Trump's atrocities so anyone that brings the orange scum down has redeemed themselves.

    • @dHolbach77
      @dHolbach77 Год назад

      Don't equate the two. Cheney is openly anti-democracy and has been for decades. The *only* reason she is anti-trump (now, of course: but look at her voting record) is because she herself wants to be the dictator of a christo fascist regime.
      She's nuts and dangerous and a monster: she has even accused democrats of voting for the right of women to execute healthy post birth babies ("post birth abortion"). Uh, that's not a thing in the sense of her appalling distortion: that a mother after giving birth just decides she doesn't want the child, which is perfectly healthy (or reasonably so) and so has doctors terminate it. That, uh doesn't happen and is rightfully illegal. What is the case is entirely appropriate and humane: that a baby which was born with severe physical/mental disabilities (in the sense of organs on the outside of its body or a brain not fully formed) or suffered debilitating damage during birth (say not breathing for several minutes or having its spine broken by twisting around too much, etc) and will die soon and suffer for no reason; in such cases a mother should have the right to have her child humanely euthanized instead of suffering and slowly dying while she knows it continues to suffer needlessly (which is pure torture for the mother and deeply inhumane to her).

    It's hard to imagine the dedication to morality and strength of character required of Cong. Raskin to keep doing his job, probably better than ever, after the death of his son. Perhaps he should someday run for president, as Biden did, only getting elected at a younger age than Biden finally did. I see in Cong. Raskin, not just someone of impeccable character but of passion to serve, perhaps to honor his son Tommy, but also to do the right thing with the time each of us has here on earth. On Memorial Day in 2017 in Arlington Cemetery, Donald Trump instead asked John Kelly, who himself lost a son in the military, "I don't get it. What was in it for them?" To ask that question of that man, of all people, makes Hillary's description of him and those who think like him as deplorable unquestionably accurate.
