I still adore his screams, because they are organic and raw. Not sophisticated and super-controlled, but i like how he just decides to put them randomly on the spot.
I will always remember Ville for his incredible voice. And the rest of the band too, of course! They've made some real magic through the years. I have a lot to thank this band for... I could write a whole book about that, but nah. I just want to say this, dear himsters: --][=][--][--][Y][-- for ever and ever.
When you say the "original" do you mean the cd version? If so, I couldn't agree more. The more Ville Screams in a song the better, but live...you just can't beat that.
I've first heard Ville's voice in the song "Bittersweet" with Laurie Ylönen. I was once a huge fan of The Rasmus (because of Laurie's voice) but after hearing that song, I've switch to Him. 😁
It's really a big difference from say 2000 - today. He used to have "big teeth". Where are they? Can they change like that just form smoking and drinking? Or what happend!? This question keeps hunting me...
I'm pretty sure he grinds his teeth at night, and possibly during the day as well. People who do not wear a plastic guard will wear their teeth down and they will look much like Ville's. Stress makes it worse. that is my guess!
I love ville but this is almost all just a compilation of him screaming, which he isn't particularly good at lol. He's a great singer but I wouldn't label this as inhuman. Enjoyed the video anyway, Ty.
I'm working on building the largest HIM/Ville Valo digital music collection. I can't remember where i got this audio in particular. maybe sacrament.net
This compilation focuses way too much on high notes and screams. He has a great vocal range that he has used during live performances that I feel like should get more credit.
Ville Valo totally unhealthy smoking habit it's (at some point) fascinating. The man used to smoke 60 cigarettes per day (that's 4 packages). He said it was their "pedals", just like a guitarist for its guitar. Singing with the cigarette influence is clearly something that gave the uniquely sound and touch to HIM's songs. I love this man voice. It's clearly passion on it.
60 cigarettes is 3 packs, as there are 20 in each. Still a ridiculous amount to smoke though. When I saw them at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco at the end of their first US tour in 2004 he smoked a pack and a half and drank an entire 5th of JD during their set, which was maybe 90min. I saw them at the Hard Rock in Vegas at the beginning of the tour as well but I don’t remember him smoking/drinking so heavily during that concert.
@@AKSteele love your memorie. Thanks for the correction about the cigs. How is it possible for a human lung to process that amount of smoke for an hour and a half and even *sing*? Kind of a miracle that this man still have some voice to even *speak*.
Call me old fashioned, but Ville's vocals lack control and stability. Nevertheless, he has an outstanding range and emotional presence while performing!
He has very good variety of voices, but he's straining like hell and it's like one-shot-trying than executed with technique and good control. He got very good interpretation skills and power. It's more high larynx screaming, enforced falsetto and lots of hard glottal onsets. In other words, lots of very destructive elements for your voice. Not surprised if he developed nodules or permanent vocal damage during the HIM's best years.
And the other thing about range, people tend to use all the possible sounds to determine one's range. Some say Ville has 5 octave range, which is true in context of creating sounds. He can scream and he can fry it down very low. But in context of singing, the range should be the range where the sound comes with control, sustainability and with a good tone. For example, if I'd take my whole range, I could growl down to F1 or even D1 and then squeal with whistle register up to A6. But the range I would actually sing in would be around F2 to A4/B4, plus adding my top controlled flageolet, which is A5. The latter is the range I'd recommend using as it's closer to practicality than random occasions where you can whimper a random high sound or mumble a low fart out of your mouth that sounds like nothing. I'd say Ville's comfortable range goes somewhere around 2,5 to 3 octaves at best.
@@Giovanni_Lippert Singing and creating sounds are different things, which I clearly addressed in my previous comment. You can create sounds in lots of octaves, was it comfortable or not, but it's not singing; it's more interpretation and effects. Singing is where the melody is controlled and the tone is consistent. That was the point of my comment originally.
Are you a fan of Him, Ville Vallo, or Bam Margera? I propose a question.
