Hi there! Thanks a lot for the review! 2 years after the review, would you still recommend this display or would you suggest something else that wasn't available back then?
Picked up two for $350 yesterday. Gonna use them for trading while travelling the world. Update: Dual M14's work flawlessly with my 6th Gen X1 Carbon. Multitasking is a breeze while traveling now.
@@alvinpatrick Individually connected into my X1 Carbon. The M14's come with USB Type-C connections on both sides. Connect the power cord into the M14 and the power can be sent through to the Laptop.
Thanks. I will be returning mine as it does not work with my laptop (Lenovo Flex 5). Which has the 1st generation usb type c. I'm commenting so others will know this. I did not find anything about this on Lenovo's site. Thanks, Lon.
Yeah many laptops with USB-C and hdmi/displayports won't do Displayport alt mode over their Type-c ports since they already have built in hdmi/DP for display. Which is why I was required to purchase a portable monitor with hdmi inputs and USB for power.
I was able to get a non-USB-C laptop to display on the Thinkvision. I used an active HDMI to Display port adapter (HDMI 1.4, not 2.0), and then a bi-directional Displayport to USB C adapter. Can get both on amazon. I have a macbook pro 2015 before they switched to USB-C.
I have a Macbook Air 2015 and was wondering if the Thinkvision would work woth it using a usb type a to type c adapter. What's your thoughts? Thank you!
@@Alejandrojr33 it will not work with just a simple USB Type A-to-USB-C. It will work with the method I described above and will work on the MacBook Air 2015 (it’s pretty much the same laptop as “15 Pro). Note, the set up I used costs about $70-$80 (it’s not basic adapters). BUT, I would not recommend getting this (or any USB-C portable monitor) if you don’t have USB-C port on your laptop . The reason is because while the Lenovo will display with the correct set-up, it will not get power from your laptop no matter how many adapters you get (only USB-C enabled ports passes power), so you’ll have to buy a separate power adapter and always have it plugged into the thinkvision, making the “portable” aspect null. I ended up buying a new laptop that has USB-C and the thinkvision really shines when you use it with the proper laptop. If you aren’t going to buy a new laptop with USB-C, I recommend finding a different portable monitor that doesn’t exclusively use USB-c. There are many on Amazon and it’s cheaper and works just as good as thinkvision.
I'm kind of surprise it only has a horizontal orientation. If you were a coder a second portable monitor that you can switch to a vertical orientation would be really great if you work remotely.
It’s a nice design, but it would be hard to justify this for me, considering there’s so many USB-C monitors that support HDMI (and even DisplayPort!) If I’m gonna spend the money, I’d like to have the option of using it with a Switch or an iPhone or any number of other devices...
Thanks for the video, you showed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 works when there is another power connection, but does it work without another power connection as well? If not, does Galaxy Note 10 will work? Thanks
i like this device for travel and portability. and i noticed, that you did not test the media players like : amazon fire tv stick 4k / apple tv / nvidia shield tv / roku stick (assuming you use hdmi to usb-c adapter going to the monitor). please let me know if that works. overall, great review as always!
The panel is crashed so easily. I bought the m14 four days ago and it has crashed without reason, I put it in the cover and the covert put in my bag. Everything looks well but the panel is crashed. I have no idea with it because the manufacture's service denies warranty or fix it. Hope they make the screen and the back harder in the next version.
I connected this to my Samsung Android phone and it works perfectly. The only issue is that the usb-c power delivery does not seem to work. Is there are minimum requirement on what usb-c charger to use?
yikes, that's pretty expensive for worse compatibility than the competition, couldn't they put an HDMI-in as well with all the room they had to work with? doesn't seem to have built-in speakers or a headphone jack either...
what if you plug in a lightning to hdmi adaptor to iphone 11.?? it has a charging port too. so plug in your iphone charger to the dongle. tehn plug in a hdmi to type c cable. the hdmi end will go into the iphone, and the type c end will go into the monitor. i saw a video on youtube from viewsonic they did this to mirror theor iphone. i wonder if this will work here as well since both are usb c portable monitors.
