      You are in a very real sense right! If all ideas have equal merit, then
      inevitably no ideas at all would have any merit, because the concept
      of truth versus falsehood (which even our very lives depend on) would
      have no meaning!

      so.. God was born in a high palace which sounded "convert o miserable humans" 10 times every `7 minutes and 25 seconds and he was so totally intolerant to the scum, there wasn't one Christian around him at his time, so he gave everyone till the end of time to convert at least 1 billiion times... thank God God has never been tolerant! @@davelong9055 ""he Nazi Party was staffed with Jesuits and high ranking Catholics."
      Yes that is why Hitler & Co expressed deep loathing for the Catholic church and Catholics.
      Most of those "high ranking Catholics" were Catholics in name alone, if at all (as many of them rejected Catholicism openly, like Hitler), as the Catholic faith, and Christianity in general, held ideas diametrically opposed to the ideals of national socialism.
      Many Catholics were also in the resistance, like the Weisse Rose. In fact most clandestine anti-nazi organizations were mainly composed by Catholics or had Catholicism at its root.
      The Catholic church itself, like many others, suffered persecution under nazism. In fact about 1/3 of German Catholic priests were sent to concentration camps

      Really. Pedophiles become priests because they could access children without suspicion. A real priest is not a pedophile. My brother was in a boarding school and was accosted by a teacher. So Teachers are organized pedophiles!.
      Pedophiles choose professions that are suitable to them. Scout leaders, youth leaders, ( I met a guy who was 'pedophiled' by the youthleader of a gun club), teachers, and yes, priests also.

      Same. When people leave the Church, it's because they understand their faith and were in the faith. That is what happened to me. But last year, I did begin to slowly come back, and from October and on, after I attended this wonderful Catholic youth event (for teens and up), and thanks to God, and for my mother for buying tickets & coming with, I really have notice a change. It's made me want to learn & protect my faith even more. I see how true & right Catholicism is. Bishop Barron is a gift from God, and may God give us more brilliant minds like these.

      Sts. Brendan, Bede, Alban, Augustine, Ita, Dymphna, Edwin, Edmund, Wilfrid, Columba, Oswin, Aelred, Dunstan, Hilda, Chad, and all the rest of our noble fathers -- were Catholic. St. Augustine's letters to Pope Gregory establishes this and if not, then The Synod of Whitby 664 hammers it home. I had to do so many gymnastics as an Anglican priest to keep up the historical facade of legitimate apostolic authority.
      I'm afraid the War of Roses established Liberalism within the foundations of England qua its status as a Liberal Nation State. The Lay Investiture Controversy was "resolved" by the creation of modern England, France, Spain, etc. with the formation of this new form of political structure. This solution says Civil Authority first, Ecclesial Second. I'm afraid The Enlightenment was thus doomed to win over England, and this sort of silliness within Anglicanism was in its very core like a seed waiting to bloom. Whatever The State says, is what the Anglican Church of that specific State, must ultimately bend the knee too. You see the silly gymnastics The Queen must go throw over this marriage fiasco. Why can't she say, "To be a good sister, is to be a good queen, is to be a good Christian?" This is why England, like the U.S., is doomed, it is ultimately a State-run church, whether physically or spiritually, or both. No matter of conversation about "agreement" or saying who is "heretical" and who is not can come out of agreements -- one needs Authority, not democracy.
      The solution to all this ethical debacle is simple:
      Ecclesial First.
      Civil Second.
      I used to be an Episcopal priest. It's time to give it up, come home Joshua. I'm much happier, and you can be too, "for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

    • @domwings4329
      @domwings4329 5 лет назад +2

      Tim Kiseljak so complex no one has the same interpretation... there’s contradictions, hoards of immorality, no one knows who wrote it, it has been mistranslated.. half the people that believe it have never even read it. Are you one of those people that bc it doesn’t make sense believes there’s some
      hidden deeper means you can’t explain 😂

    • @domwings4329
      @domwings4329 5 лет назад

      Tim Kiseljak well first off you are very wrong about it being ok for others to interpret it and think differently. The church prosecuted those who thought differently... today they don’t prosecute anyone bc they lack power.. if I interpret the Bible in a way that brings me to believe divorce is ok, the church says I need to repent, if to me masturbation is not immoral, the church says I will burn for eternity if I don’t confess. If you disagree on any mortal sin, the church says your soul is doomed, so you are not free to interpret it differently, it is interpreted for you and you must abide by their way otherwise you will be ostracized or even excommunicated. Almost none of the Bible is philosophical. I’ve read it, which is one of the reasons why I’m no longer a believer at all.

    • @domwings4329
      @domwings4329 5 лет назад

      Tim Kiseljak I think to tell people they are going to hell for offenses that offend no one (except God in their eyes) is extreme. I don’t doubt you doubt that I’ve read the Bible, if I did, you still doubt I read it with sincerity or with serious thought.. it’s hard to comprehend that someone can properly interpret the Bible and still find it ridiculous, this is a kind of mental barrier that remains in believers, they want to believe rational people will always be convinced the Bible speaks truth, bc this reassures their judgement and sanity, let me tell you, you are wrong. I was a Catholic for 25 years.. I know the patterns of thought that cross through your mind, I’m not saying I can read yours, but I understand you. If I point out absurdity in the Bible you will run to the New Testament, when I point the absurdity there, you will say you interpret it differently or that it is mysterious. We will disagree on much until we debate the basics of biblical credibility and the existence of God.

    "Toleration" and "inclusiveness" aren't listed among Christian virtues. Sadly, there are many misguided CATHOLICS today who will argue for silence in the face of (if not outright acceptance of) all manner of abominations - in the name of these double edged values. The path to heaven is a narrow one, requiring us to resist evil and embrace purity and holiness. Love the sinner, certainly - but reject sin, and urge the world away from it. That's our mandate, not slothful acquiescence to all things.

    I'm currently a practicing Episcopalian, but it is Catholic men like Bishop Barron here that have convinced me to one day convert to Catholicism, as I intend to do at some point. The far left teachings of the Episcopal church have left me with little comfort among those who claim to follow scripture and church tradition, yet actively oppose it. Myself and many other Episcopalians have plan to migrate to the Catholic Church for these very reasons.

    I don't mean to be crude, but I was laughing as Father quoted this sermon. What has come to these people who profess to be Christians that they say ridiculous things that are contrary to the faith? John Shelby Spong, another Episcopalian bishop, doesn't even believe in a theistic personal god, that Jesus never rose from the dead, that miracles don't happen, etc. But whenever I bring this up, I'm met with the approach that modern culture has embraced: who are you to say somebody is not a real Christian? CS Lewis did point out that there's a difference between saying somebody doesn't have the right grip on theology and saying somebody doesn't have the spirit of Christ. Those "bishops" may have the right sense of compassion and charity, as Jesus decrees, but we forget how dogmatic Jesus is.
    Eventually this woman will sit down and watch The Exorcist, and she will stand up and start screaming how the priests are being unkind to little Regan McNeil because they are exorcising her.

    this story is so beyond unbelievable to me. For this reason alone I could never ever be an Episcopalian. If these people discernment is that screwed up that they could sit through a sermon like this they are completely lost. I thought that Charismania was out there and have been attending a Catholic church out of disillusionment with evangelicalism in general. To interpret this story from the book of acts in this way is so over the top that it makes Benny Hinn look like Thomas Aquinas in terms of orthodoxy. This is what you get when you follow Sola Scriptura to its logical conclusion. I am so trying to just find and cling to the hem of his garment out of sheer desperation like trying to find your way through a house of mirrors. "Willing the good of the other (or oneself)," is a good description of divine/true love. What passes as 'love' in much modern discourse is actually feelings of affection and/or worshiping and protecting the pride of the other. Lucifer's fall from grace was his seduction by his own beauty and holiness as God's top angel. It's critical to recognize that Lucifer's sin was that instead of utilizing his holiness to do God's will, he made it into an object of worship, hence the birth of pride as sin. There is no virtue in dwelling on goodness or beauty as a personal attribute. We should be happy for God's gifts and humbly seek to devote them to doing His will. The moment we seek to worship ourselves or others instead of caring about their best interest, we've gone from doing good to worshiping goodness for the sake of pride. Lust and pride are sins that are derived from true/divine love, yet pervert it nonetheless.

    The full story is in Acts 16: Now it
    happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with
    a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by
    fortune-telling. 17 This
    girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the
    servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days.But
    Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in
    the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very
    hour. 19 But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities."Actually, when you read this you can see that Paul was actually quite tolerant, (NOT what the bishop was saying about him) putting up with this for many days. Then eventually he did cast out the demon who oppressed this girl.

    • @ronhirsch1944
      @ronhirsch1944 5 лет назад

      Is this an accurate rendering please? If so, could someone please explain how the girl's message differed from Paul's. If it didn't, how did Paul know she was possessed by an evil spirit rather than a good one? As quoted, it seems to me that Paul's problem was that she was attracting attention and, (could it be? ), income he wanted for himself. A typically fishy little anecdote.

    • @juice2307
      @juice2307 4 года назад

      The girl’s message itself wasn’t the problem. The problem was that the news of salvation is not something to profit off of. It should be freely given.
      The demon and the slave owners were pretty much using her “prophesying” of this message as marketing for their business.

    • @ronhirsch1944

      @@juice2307 Is there something in the story about the girl or her owners selling what she says about Paul? Isn't it the message which is most important? How did Paul know that it wasn't god working through the girl? Don't virtually all churches make money out of pushing what they call salvation? How does what the girl was doing differ materially from what all organised religions do?
      The girl wasn't offering salvation. She was pointing out Paul and co. as the ones proclaiming the way to it. As I said, very fishy. But a good precedent for xtians who like to shout "Heretic" at their competition. Yes, I am thinking of catholics, in particular.

    • @clearjr1
      @clearjr1 7 лет назад +8

      She didn't make herself a bishop. She was elected and consecrated as one. When Henry VIII split churches most of the English Roman Catholic bishops went along with him since they didn't want to lose their heads. So they retained apostolic succession even though Leo XIII didn't think it continued due to a defective formula. Also, the polish pope didn't think women could be priests but he couldn't come up with a logical or theological reason why other than Catholics never had them before. So Anglicans and Episcopalians probably do have valid ordinations especially since they have the cooperation of Old Catholic bishops in their bishops' consecrations. Over time Catholics will have to realize like they did with keeping slaves that women have to be treated equally as human beings and not as second class as they have been for since time immemorial.

    • @jaybig360

      john riordan dude ones the catholic bishops broke away from the bishop of Rome apostolic succession ceased. And the biggest reason for not allowing woman priest is because Jesus chose 12 male priest aka the apostle. Do you think this woman "bishop" has apostolic succession ? 😂 you are delusional. They broke away and started here own church. Orthodox on the other hand still contains apostolic succession because their church was started by one of the apostle. This woman is no bishop of Jesus had a grave he would be rolling in it.

    I am familiar with that homily given by the head of The Episcopal Church, Bp Jefferts-Schori, over a year ago. She said at the end of her message that we must reinterpret Scripture because if that didn't happen a century and a half ago, slavery would still exist today. Apparently, St. Paul the Apostle endorsed the practice. Upon further reflection, however, slavery died out in the West as Christianity overtook what was left of the Roman Empire, but that wasn't caused by the Church reinterpreting the Bible. Instead, the Church held on to Tradition -- reading Scripture through the eyes of how we always seen it and slavery disappeared. After roughly a millennium without it, the practice returned in the West right around the time the Protestant Reformation decided to reinterpret the Bible (outside Tradition). Coincidence?

    • @lionheart5078
      @lionheart5078 10 лет назад +4

      fantastic point. Paul also never says slavery is good. It was just a fact of life back then. He specifically says that to God there is no slave or free.

    • @lionheart5078
      @lionheart5078 9 лет назад +1

      ***** this is actually just plain wrong, Europe was specifically the first place to outlaw slavery on earth basically. against other Christians yes but Christians also weren't allowed to have slaves there were essentially no slaves in Europe during the middle ages after it was abolished by the church, serfs yes but it is different. Also, when the Portuguese started slavery and until it was outlawed again in Europe again led by mostly Christian movements, the Pope condemned the slave trade the whole way through, European governments just ignored him. I've heard secular historians say that slavery from roman times ended specifically because of Christianity, even if it resurfaced later

    • @GeoJackDouglas
      @GeoJackDouglas 9 лет назад

      *****, are you saying Feudalism and serfdom is the same thing as slavery? Granted, I'm not recommending we go back to that practice, but your statement struck me as rather odd...
      If you do see these two (serfdom and slavery) as the same thing, then would you suggest that the capitalistic society in America is also the same as slavery? Some have thought so, because people are progressively forced to work longer hours for less money.
      *If you do not see these as the same --Capitalism and Slavery*, *then why not*? If you do see these as the same, then I understand where you are coming from but it would be impossible for me to have an answer to your point, but not for the reason that many would think...
      I am trying to assess your definition of slavery and go from there...

    • @GeoJackDouglas
      @GeoJackDouglas 9 лет назад +1

      *****, oh -- I got what you are saying now. It isn't the idea that Catholics did away with slavery that bothers you -- you are upset because I *linked* the Reformation to its re-institution. You were under the impression that the Protestant Reformation led to a great awakening in morality so you have to deflect from my little *coincidence*. I see now, though we may want to work on this thing called denial. America was started as a Capitalistic Protestant nation, but until 1865, *slavery* was sanctioned here. Just saying....

    • @GeoJackDouglas
      @GeoJackDouglas 9 лет назад

    The Episcopal Church is so de-railed, it cannot even be considered a Christian Church any longer. If you look back a great deal of the de-railment started with Bishop James A. Pike in the 1960's. The Episcopal Church has gone "downhill" ever since that time.
