These are some really good tips. Getting older I notice the feeling of sitting too long on a chair, eating a bunch of cookies, bad sleep, and bad dinner. Even when I was 20 I noticed it, but I learned to ignore it... This ignorance is a necessary function of keeping a full-time job. But now I realize that frequent breaks and walks, and avoiding bad food and snacks are crucial. Even back when I was 20 it would have made a difference. I would have hit targets a lot earlier.

As someone who likes to experiment with all diets to find "the proof in the pudding" for myself rather than get stuck between conflicting studies, i feel my absolute best when I eat mostly red meat like ribeyes, compared to when I eat mostly plant-based. I have COPD, and my breathing truly becomes much easier and much less labored in a carnivore-heavy diet as compared to eating fruit and veggies. I guess there may be something in the "plant defense chemicals / oxalates gradually causes harm" theory. Was heavily plant-based for years, now a carnivore for only a few short months, and so far my health is recovering gradually and surely. Even Dr. Brad says so himself in a couple of his videos - never take his word for it, but instead everyone needs to experiment for themselves to find what works specifically for their unique physiology.

    • @JakeRichardsong
      @JakeRichardsong Год назад +2

Red meat is generally regarded to INCREASE inflammation and can decrease immune function. Not all plants are high in oxalates and they can be dealt with anyway. Feelings are not facts and can be quite misleading.

@@JakeRichardsongyou are generalizing a great deal here.
And, to your point that 'feelings are not fact' - the poster you are replying to is referring to their feeling improved health benefits - for themselves, individually, on Carnivore (vs.PB) - so for them this IS factual.
Nothing you have stated here is actually a fact.
It does however sound factual to me (just my opinion) that you may be biased for PB.

@@barbarafairbanks4578 They actually are facts. Eating red meat increases inflammation. There is nothing more misleading than feelings. They are not facts. It's obviously terrible for the animals and bad for the planet. These are all facts.

This is very interesting, and very clear, thank you. I have a question: I do wonder, particularly with supplements, what is a good age to start? I ask as I cant find data out there on whether there is a risk of starting too young (say 20s or 30s) taking supplements that your makes / has (such as Collagen), would this lead to the body relying on supplements, and no longer making as much itself, meaning you need more and more supplements as you get older? Or is this concern unfounded? Thanks.

Good video but you forgot a biggie in your list of interventions for longevity: "Have close friends, obtain joy from social gatherings, have higher meaning & purpose in life, be part of a strong community, be in the company of good people and chit chat. Reach out to at least two friends for support (logistical and emotional) during times of stress, even if it’s through the internet. But if they’re within arms reach, go ahead and hug them, often! This is great advice. I appreciate very much that you separate the scientifically proven methods from those which are just "internet hype" and that you do your own literature search instead of just repeating what other influencers or "scientists" say. Only one tiny criticism: At the end you recommend melatonin. Nothing wrong with that if a person has real trouble falling asleep and nothing else works, like morning sunlight, avoiding caffeine late in the day and so on. However, I would stronly advise against taking melatonin if a person has a more or less healthy sleep pattern or just a bad night from time to time! Yes, those people do exist :) I believe you should have emphasized that more.

Great list, love your content! But I'm in FULL disagreement regarding your stance on whole body MRI scans. I've worked in hospitals for 30 years, and see this scenario daily: CT and/or MRI identifies a tumor that's been growing for years, sometimes decades. Patient is in stage 4 cancer & given months (sometimes just weeks) to live since the cancer has been growing unchecked for so long.
Also - my cousin just had a kidney removed due to late stage cancer, his surgeon confirmed it had been growing for 10-12 years. His sole symptom was back pain a month before.
Question: Why wouldn't we all want to detect these masses the moment they're large enough to appear on a scan? I get a full body MRI scan annually & it's detected all sorts of potential health issues that I'm able to stay ahead of since I knew YEARS BEFORE SYMPTOM ONSET. I'm thankful for that full body MRI option - although it's self-pay (but doesn't cost as much as one may think with private companies who offer them). Thanks for listening!

It might have been implied but needs to be said straight out, another problem with mouse studies is that they are naturally seed eating vegetarians. We are naturally omnivores. So studies about protein with mice will naturally be a bit skewed. Also implied but not said is that mice being much smaller than humans have a much faster metabolism. So times have to be scaled up or down when doing comparison.

Like Dr. B is supposed to guess at what this collagen supplement brand is - ?? (I doubt he'd answer anyway, even if he did know the brand).
Other than that, the idea of a PB 'true' collagen peptide formula, sounds like an oxymoron to me. (since collegen peptides are derived from animal sources, rather than plants
"True collagen is not derived from plants, and your body may have a more challenging time making collagen from plant-based collagen."
Also, proline & L-glutamate - (proline is biosynthesized in the body by way of L-glutamate) are both non-essential AA's, as is proline. Hydroxyproline is found in mamalian collagen & helps, along with proline, to stabilize collagen in the body.
Adding proline & hydroxyproline to a PB collagen, sound more to me like a marketing ploy, than anything else.
I also would like to know what this brand is, because (my best guess) is that it's hype that's
target-marketed to vegans. Just my humble opinion,
      but a fairly educated one.

Hi Dr. Brad. You are talking about a multivitamin without megadosing but at the same time you have 50.000% of vitamine B12. Seems like a lot... And what will happen if you suddenly decide to stop taking such a big dose of vitamine B12? And when will MicroVitamin be available in the rest of Europe?

Fasting is the best thing you can do for potential longevity benefits. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fibrosis/scarring is reversed over time, including in the heart and lungs.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' like spikes that are not supposed to be there. Whether natural or unnatural in origin..
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered when fasting, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job.
    Fasting increases nitric oxide release.
Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels.
Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body.
Reflexes and short term memory are increased.
Telomeres are lengthened and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors.
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps prevent the onset of new autoimmune conditions, which develop through a leaky gut and damaged immune system.
Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer.
Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue!
The obese will lose extra tissue like loose skin while fasting, but the skinny or frail will have increased growth hormone release than the obese, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness.
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate.
The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS.
Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil.
One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! This reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function.
Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting.
Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose.
Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells
Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention!
Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. They also help with dementia and many other issues even if you take them while not fasting!
Glycine and trimethylglycine can also be useful supplements while fasting that won't break ketosis and have many benefits.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice.

Maybe because after 50 years old everyone becomes b12 deficient. Of that "megadose" very little will end up being absorbed.
