Yes, please do a video about cholesterol lowering medication. My doctor prescribed a statin for my slightly elevated numbers, but I am scared to take it as so many people say statins are bad... causes glaucoma, causes diabetes, ect
@@DrBradStanfieldWhy not ezetimibe? Or both? Ezetimibe seems to have less potential side effects and maybe will be enough to push your results where you want them to be.
@@DrBradStanfield it does help. And my ultra orthodox NYU professor cardiologist can’t even seem to seriously THINK about switching me off Lipitor: when I’ve made this exact request. It’s one reason I respect your brain power on these issues. She has no argument about it, just appears to be on auto pilot. Love her, but…you know…
1) Lower salt intake or mix it with potassium chloride 2) Exercise 3) Sleep 4) Reduce Stress 5) Weight management 6) Blood sugar managing 7) Blood cholesterol management 8) Check and lower ApoB 9) Add some Omega 3 PS. Video dedicated on medication for lowering cholesterol would be nice
The obsession with cholesterol has more or less been debunked. Video is just more mainstream science that doesn't factor the latest information about managing CVD risk. The only real thing people need to control is inflammation, and that can be through hyperinsulinemia/chronically elevated blood sugar, or other things. Lowering salt intake is also only necessary in people who have hypertension already. It's been shown to have no effect on otherwise healthy people
@@museitup4741No! That study you are speaking about on LDL-C and statins on people 60 and older is well debunked. Cholesterol causes heart disease in excess.
85% of the time we need to eat, exercise and sleep the way our ancestors did for millions of year, especially in the last thousand years. Even the bible stated the fat was separated from the meat and thrown to the wayside. In the U.S. for example they add fat to the hamburgers and hot dogs for example. There is about 6 things that clog arteries like sugar for example and they add that to all the food in a joint effort with the U.S. tobacco companies and hospitals so the hospitals can make money according to PHD Edward. 💵💵💵💵 @@museitup4741
Never, ever, take statins or cholesterol lowering drugs. Never. You will regret it. Cholesterol is essential in healing our body and is necessary for producing testosterone for men. What Big Pharma tells you to do, do the complete opposite.
@@stevet5549 Can you give us a link to the study that says doubling the dose only gives you (around) 6% benefit? (I always try to include links if I ever 'give advice' in comments sections) [Edit: but my opinion is the same as yours regarding 'the science of cholestrol is not settled yet' (let alone the science of risk of CV events - and their severity)]
My cholesterol and triglycerides were rising some time ago. I started cycling and began to eat nuts, like Brazil nut, macadamia, pecan...It dropped significantly. Of course, I eat well too.
You missed one more important point- is blood test for stored iron (ferritin) has to be below 100. High ferritin doubles and triples mortality rate from heart attacks.
@@seektruth9982 lowering stored iron *IS* the important basics and fundamentals. #1 is lowering fasting blood sugar, #2 is lowering stored iron (ferritin) and #3 is lowering GGT. I don't think the sodium issue is so simple. My blood pressure has actually been lower while drastically increasing my sodium intake. My electrophysiologist told me not to worry about salt, it's more the fried/overly processed crap we eat that's the problem.
Agreed. Salt is necessary I lowered my blood pressure increasing salt and electrolytes and eliminating sugar and carbs especially fruits and grains. I've lost 200lbs without exercise by just eating 2 nutritious fatty protein from animal sources and when I have something sweet it's not sugar and I've never felt better in my life.
Mediterrranean diet is full of salt, lots of fish and cured hams yet it's probably the best diet out there. I think high sugar mixed with cheap table salt is probably the actual problem (really, just sugar).
Yes to a video on cholesterol. Questions: many RUclips doctors say high salt is fine and even important. Please comment. Question: Your take on Dr. Gundry and lectins. Question: your thoughts on Keto. Question: can you break down the Omega issue more specifically. (EPA vs. DHA, omega 9 and 7) ALSO: I have CAD at 46, strategies to reverse this and atherosclerosis. Thank you!
@@JBActors RUclips doctors aren't representative of the most doctors or of the scientific consensus. Dr Gundry also says that smoking is healthy you should just ignore him he is a charlatan. I don't really know what you mean by break down omega tissue? do you mean use it as fuel? also you should go to a doctor to help manage your risk factors
Lectins is only a problem for a select group of people with autoimmune diseases(Dr. Gundry suffer from autoimmune disease himself). The only exception, is you should never eat raw beans. Coconut oils contains saturated fat that is not healthy. MCT raises triglycerides, which is also not healthy. Especially, if taken regularly and in larger doses. Dose and regularity plays an important role here! 😉 Keto = bad. Mostly because it advocate eating of saturated fats....which all bigger studies has shown increases risk for early problems with heart health issues. Hope that helps.....until Brad addresses them in future videos! 🙂
Thanks for your support! Regarding your questions, I’d strongly advise that you follow the latest clinical guidelines rather than what ‘RUclips doctors’ (myself included) recommend
I'm violently allergic to statins (as was my father). So, yes, I would like to see a dedicated video covering statin alternatives. My numbers are pretty good, but I could do better and would love to have that info 'in my pocket'. Thanks for very helpful content.
I'd actually recommend against the use of niacin because, although it does reduce ldl and triglycerides, it has not been shown to reduce risk of strokes or heart attacks. One I would recommend if your numbers are already good is ezetimibe as it is cheap, lowers ldl, and has been shown reduce actual heart attack and stroke risk
Niacin has no benefit and may be harmful. See DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD009744.pub2 If you cannot get the APO-B down than maybe counter-acting plaque-buildup with fibrinolytics would be an option? See DOI: 10.3389%2Ffcvm.2022.964977 . In addition to the fibrinolytic effect, that study also shows a reduction of LDL-C and triglycerides.
Please do discuss cholesterol-lowering medications. In particular, I'm interested in how they impact levels of APOB and lp(a). Also, what difference do we see in these drugs in men vs. women and in women pre- and postmenopause? For example, I understand that they raise lp(a). Thank you!
Cholesterol runs high in my family. I’ve been at 220 for 20 years now. Blood pressure and weight are healthy. I’d like a video discussing the three cholesterol lowering medications. Also, is there a way to reverse blockage for those who may have already built some up?
It looks like your cholesterol is in the centenarian range for the longest lifespan, 12.8 million Korean study. "In conclusion, U-curve relationships between TC and mortality were found, regardless of sex and age. TC ranges associated with the lowest mortality were 210-249 mg/dL in each sex-age subgroup, except for the youngest groups of men, aged 18-34 years (180-219 mg/dL)"
@Jeffs60 This is bang on. Don't know why the Doctor keeps ignoring. Also, the 7 countries study we currently base the cholesterol standards on was cherry pick. The original study had way more countries in it and they picked out only 7 that supported what they were looking for. Look into vitamin K2 to help stop the calcification of you arteries.
I have developed a diet I call the Heart Attack Diet! No fruit, no veggies and plenty of lard and tallow. No plant based oils at all. Should have a heart attack any day now since I have eaten this way since 1983. No seeds, no stems, no leaves or roots. Eat at least 2 pounds of red meat a day. Never go to a gym or do any structured exercise. Oh I think I am having chest pains already!
This Cochrane review used people that are eating an unhealthy Standard American diet and then replace saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats. This study doesn't apply to those that aren't eating an unhealthy diet aren't sick and eating a healthy saturated fat diet
Lyon diet heart study- Mediterranean diet very low in saturated fat high in MUFA moderate in PUFA and high in carbohydrates ( from bread pasta and fruit in particular) - 70% reduction in heart attacks.
@@shon7507 It's an easy diet to do. You basically compare the saturated fat per serving of different brands of similar items and buy the ones with the lowest saturated fat. Do this for everything, even cooking oils. You want the cooking oils that are 1g sat fat per serving, not 2g. Fat free cheeses can be sprayed with a little oil so they melt like normal (think pizza, lasagna, liquid egg white omelettes, etc) and you can salt with morton's sodium free potassium salt. They make a 50/50 blend that can be useful for the occasional dish that you enjoy when its really salty. Butter, sliced cheeses, deli meats, ground meats, etc. You can optimize everything to have the lowest saturated fat available to you in your local grocery store and if the sat fat values are really close, sometimes choose the better tasting option. You don't want fat free, you want low saturated fat. Fat is flavor. If your best option is a fat free version, spray in some canola to add healthy fat back. The outcome will be much closer to the non-fat free version, but healthier.
Thanks you, as always. I've been seeing more posts on social media recently that 'most' fish oils are 'rancid' and actually doing more harm than good. Any thoughts on that? Or suggestions for brands? Maybe worth a designated video? Thanks again!
Yes a cholesterol video and why there are videos that say high LDL does not contribute to heart disease or lowering LDL aggresively with drugs to 40-60 is not necessary.
please make a dedicated video about cholesterol meds. I started taking the one you recommend, but my GP is discouraging me from taking it. She did allow me to keep the prescription, but strongly encourage me to stop as the side effects weren't worth the risk with my levels of ~93
I would really enjoy a video on cholesterol and triglycerides as a whole. I did a test myself with niacin and found a measured decline in LDL of about 25% with a small uptick in HDL. I would enjoy your outlook on this matter as a whole since I have always been on the high side.
The best shopping tip I have is compare the nutrition labels of different brands for each product you want to buy. Compare the saturated fat and buy the product with the lower saturated fat. This one comparison can guide all your product choices. You can still buy the stuff you eat, but optimize what you eat to have the lowest saturated fat. Also, don't become a zeealot. Life needs to be enjoyable. Eat right with the meals you can control, so that you can eat badly without guilt when you are out celebrating with friends and family. If you eat healthy in your normal day to day, you can live it up occasionally without issues. It is your reward. You will end up buying turkey based meats if you want to fully optimize. There are some good turkey breakfast sausages. Oscar Meyer deli selects are very low saturated fat for the sliced turkey and ham. 99% ground turkey is great. You will need an oil sprayer with a healthy oil. Lean meats need some oil added to them for taste and cooking. Oil is flavor, do not fear oil. You are using the healthiest oil you can find, so that you can use it in cooking and still be healthy. Once you are eating a low saturated fat diet, you are going to realize how much saturated fat someone is eating when they aren't paying attention to how much is in the food they are eating. Don't feel guilty eating out occasionally or spraying oil on food. Eating this way for most of your meals means you are still eating a meaningfully lower amount of saturated fat. I tried different butters and settled on the i can't believe it's not butter lite. You want the lite version. It works fine on toast and other foods. (I have not tried baking with it, use canola oil for baking) Kraft makes an avocado oil based mayo that has the low saturated fat and still tastes good. There is a spicy mayo made by hellman's that uses canola oil, so it is also healthy. Velveeta cheese is made with canola oil, I will make omelets using liquid egg white with shredded fat free cheddar and tear up one piece of velveeta. I give it a spray of canola or sunflower oil, and some morton salt substitute (potassium based salt). I do spray oil in pan and heat up before pouring in egg. For hashbrowns, there are frozen potato patties you can thaw in microwave and cook in the toaster. They have low saturated fat. Use keto breads for all your breads if you can afford it. You can cut out carbs in a freebie substitute. Brownberry's keto bread was the best to me, it had normal slices while most keto bread brands have thicker slices than normal which is annoying. There is no such thing as a good low carb pasta, I tried everything even those japanese seaweed based noodles that are horrible. You can compensate by reducing carbs in other meals for the pasta meals that you make at home using low saturated fat inputs and oils. Fat free shredded cheeses will melt just fine if you spray them in a bowl with your oil sprayer and mix it up to coat the cheese. You can turn a fat free cheese that can't melt, into an amazing low saturated fat cheese that melts like normal and is normal cheese. A spray of healthy oil will make any fat free cheese melt normal. You can make real lasagna with an oil sprayer, 99% fat free ground turkey, fat free shredded mozzerella, and a healthy pasta sauce. Fat free cottage cheese can be used for filling with a spray of oil. Oil is flavor, you need it. I tend to salt shredded cheeses with some of the potassium salt substitute. I find they need a little bit of salt for flavor. Pizza with low carb or whole grain crusts (if not doing low carb) can be made. Hormel makes a turkey pepperoni in packages in small red colored zip lock bag type packaging that is great for pizza or sandwiches. The same rule applies when buying oil as other groceries, choose the lowest saturated fat. The generic canola oil at the grocery store is usually 1.0g sat fat per serving. But you do need to compare labels, some canola oil can be 2g of sat fat. 2g of sat fat is what olive oil has. Canola and high oleic sunflower oil are great. You may be able to find avocado that is 1g, but I only find it to be 1.5-1.6g. Sunflower oil is high temp, you can cook at 450 with no oil smoking. Canola can be between 350-450 and packages don't always say. (maybe call the company?) Canola works for baking, frying pan, and salad dressings. You only really need sunflower oil for deep frying or higher temp cooking in a frying pan. The best tool you can buy to learn to cook and have meals be repeatable is a portable induction cooktop with digital temp controls in deg F/C. It is useless if its just something generic like "high, medium, low". I also use a 11in deep pan that is essentially a wok so nothing spills out easily and oil concentrates into the middle of the pan, so you can use less of it. I cook right on the counter next to the gas stove. I bought different induction cooktops, most weren't good. The nuwave gold precision induction cooktop is one that is perfect in my eyes. It has the best temp controls. You can set the temp in degrees F/C and can easily set the 4 presets to be whatever you want. It has a digital readout of the temp. On my pan, the surface temp measured 20 degree less than the display, that seems really accurate. You want the one that says 8in coil. The larger the coil, the more surface area of the pan will heat up. You want the largest coil you can find with temp controls that allow for easily tweaking cooking temps and repeating temps to enable remaking dishes with consistency. It allows you to learn to be a better cook. You can't screw up the cook temp like you can with a gas burner. You also don't burn your forearms reaching over a pot to stir it because the heat is only in the pan, not around it like a gas burner. Cook like a scientist. You are always experimenting until at least you think you nailed something. Try small changes to see if anything is better. Maybe a little more oil, or a little less, Try an air fryer vs baking or frying pan or microwave. Turkey bacon with a sprits of oil and some ground pepper cooks well in an air fryer or microwave or on a skillet. Try things out, get creative on your own. Testing is how you learn. The more variations you test, the better the outcome will be. I make fries and hashbrowns with a cheap potato slicer with variable thickness and additional cutting blades for cutting the potato slice into strips for fries and hashbrowns. Get one designed so you cannot accidentally cut yourself. If you don't, you'll definitely will be buying one if you cut yourself a single time. The best feature of any kitchen device is how hard they make it to hurt yourself. If you get a ceramic knife, get one that comes with a plastic slip case with holes cut in it so water can dry. You can clean the knife and immediately put the plastic cover on it so the blade is never exposed when not in use. It can still air dry with the cover on. Be very careful how you clean it, get some king of bristle scrubber that keeps your hand away and scrub with zero pressure so your hand does not push into the blade if your brush slips off the knife while cleaning it. Buy band aids and the clear betadine spray before you start cooking. The spray works on cuts and burns. Band aids should stay dry, don't use creams. Spray the cut or burn, let dry, and use band aid for protection when needed. When possible, air dry the wound which helps with healing. You don't want the skin to be overly moist and turn white-ish. I have seen a generic brand "Blood Controlling Spray" at walgreens and cvs. I have not had a chance to test it yet, but if I do cut myself, I'll give it a try to see if it stops the bleeding enough to easily secure the skin with a band-aid.
Dr. Brad, thank you for yet again another good and informative video. Having been watching some other videos related to the subject of arterial disease and heart attacks on RUclips, it appears to me that some of the points that you have brought up in this video might be contradictory to those other videos. Specifically, the harmfulness of saturated fat or slightly higher levels of salt or high levels of LDL are all being refuted. In particular, a brand new video came out just two days ago by Dr. Paul Mason under the title: Decoding Atherosclerosis. It would be greatly helpful if you would share your thoughts on that video or in general on the mechanics of how, for example, saturated fats or higher usage of salt would contribute to heart disease.

@@johnw362 Optimize what you buy at the grocery store. For every single product from cooking oil to pasta, to sauces, to deli meats, cheeses, butter, frozen foods, breads, etc you compare the saturated fat per serving and buy the product with the lowest. Fat free products like shredded cheeses or lean meats like 99% fat free ground turkey, still need oil to taste good. Get an oil sprayer and hit them with some canola. Fat free cheese melts like normal with a little spray of oil enabling low saturated fat lasagnas and pizzas. I find I need to add a little salt, so I use the morton's potassium based sodium free salt that comes in a shaker. They also have a 50/50 blend if you need a saltier dish on occasion. I also do keto sliced white bread and mission carb balance tortillas. Various low carb buns. There is no such thing as edible or tasty low carb pasta. Every low carb pasta I tried was terrible or just wasn't close enough to real pasta to satisfy me. I eat keto breads, english muffins, buns, and tortillas to reduce carbs in one area where low carb does not taste bad, so I can eat pasta without always having tons of carbs in every meal.
Hi Brad, Another great video. For folks who are based in ANZ, statins is a prescribed medicine. If my LDL is in the "normal" range, I imagine GP may be reluctant to prescribe statins. Zone 1 exercise should be the majority of exercise one does and it can be done every day as much as possible because there is no upper limit, 2h is better than 1h and 4h is better than 2h. Slow walking is great zone 1 exercise, but for those forced to sit a lot during the day, the "Soleus Pushup" is a great alternative to walking that be done seated everywhere.
Definitely would appreciate a video dedicated to cholesterol medications. My Dr recently put me on a low dose (5 mg/da) of rosuvastatin. However, I have a couple of concerns: 1) enthusiastic studies often misrepresent the mathematical benefits of statins; 2) S/E such as tendinitis -- how to balance benefits/risk
The Cochrane Review, "Effects of low sodium diet versus high sodium diet on blood pressure, renin, aldosterone, catecholamines, cholesterol, and triglyceride" (DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD004022.pub4) says: "As a reduction in salt intake decreases blood pressure (BP) in individuals with elevated BP, we are commonly advised to cut down on salt. However, the effect of salt reduction on BP in people with a normal BP has been questioned. Furthermore, several studies have shown that salt reduction activates the salt conserving hormonal system (renin and aldosterone), the stress hormones (adrenalin and noradrenalin) and increases fatty substances (cholesterol and triglyceride) in the blood." In particular, cholesterol increased by 2.9% and triglyceride increased by 6.3%.
I disagree with the salt, south korea eats soo much salt and has no issues with blood pressure and heart attacks. It's the combination of salt + other factors.
You can't just make a statement that leafy green vegetables are rich in potassium. It depends how plentiful it is in the soil they are grown on. Plants do Not make minerals! Most poor taken care of soils where they just use chemical NPK to fertilize the soil, can be almost completely devoid of minerals. Especially trace minerals that are very important for human health. For the most part in the US, both organic and especially non organic vegetables etc are grown on mineral deficient soils soils and you cannot get what your body needs in that regard to maintain human health. Please stop misleading people by saying this plant or that vegetable is high in certain minerals. that's not true for the most part in US grown food. You must supplement with a good colloidal mineral formula to maintain health.Joel Wallach makes some of the best.
The irony of the "Mediterranean Diet" is that most people still do that wrong. They just pick bits and pieces out of the actual diet style or pick a specific region in the Mediterranean area that aligns closer with how they want to eat. Even worse are the people that just think that Olive Oil is what make a the diet Mediterranean so they just end up adding high calorie dense, low nutrient fat to their diet and not changing much else. If your "Medi" diet is not high in veggies, moderate nuts and seeds, whole grains, fruits, legumes & pulses, low in dairy, low to moderate fish, and as little to no processed foods as possible, then you aren't doing it right. Mediterranean diet doesn't mean salmon everyday with olive oil covered salad that is also swimming with parm and croutons and lots of yogurt based sauces and other high fat dairy garbage. Or, the shorter version - if your "medi" diet isn't giving you at least 25 grams of fiber per 1,000 calories that you eat - you aren't doing it right.
To be clear, per the report, Omega 3 supplementation did not significantly reduce the primary end point of major CVD events. It did meet secondary end point of reducing total MI (heart attacks).
Endurance athletes need more sodium due to the loss of sweat. LMNT is a great way to get enough electrolytes like sodium, potassium and magnesium which are crucial for energy, focus, and muscle activation & neural firing
The amount matters, our ancestors were running in Africa with salt in takes of roughly 500mg while most Americans are eating 3400. Eating 1500mg is plenty, LMNT isn't necessary. If you eat plants you'll get plenty of potassium and magnesium. A good plant based diet should get you 6000mg of potassium and 1000mg of magnesium.

Can you do a detailed video on saturated fat? Because there's different kinds and some are really hard to understand their impacts. Coconut for example.
He wrote in response to my bringing up all these controversies that I should ignore HIM AND all the debates and simply follow orthodox advice. Kind of weird.
Interesting and informative video! However, it's important to note the high Omega-6 content in certain nuts like almonds, hazelnuts, and pistachios. While nuts offer numerous health benefits, an excessive intake of Omega-6 fatty acids compared to Omega-3 can increase the risk of inflammatory diseases. Omega-6 is essential for the body, but a balanced ratio to Omega-3 is crucial for health. Walnuts are a better choice in this context, as they have a more favorable Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio. Nonetheless, overall consumption of nuts should remain moderate, and it's advisable to include other Omega-3-rich foods such as fatty fish, flaxseeds, or chia seeds in your diet to promote a healthy balance of these fatty acids.
Exactly 🤣 That's what I said above. Tons of people who die from CVD had their LDL normal or low. I mean this doctor still insists eating meat increases the risk. Tipical Pharma speech.
Riding a bicycle is a great way to exercise. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. Be healthier and happier. Ride a bicycle regularly.
Thank you once again for these informative videos. Is Omega 3 supplements necessary is you eat plenty of fatty fish and nuts? I heard a cardiologist on a podcast, saying it’s actually a bad idea if you consume these in your diet naturally and adding can create toxic levels. Please clarify 🙏🏻
Excellent Informative and consistence with the science. One area that could be more clarified is the cause of heart disease, which has been argued with scientific evidence to be inflammation and that cholesterol only becomes involved to cure the inflammation, I think you need to clarify this.

This doesn’t account for people whose bodies do not use calcium well, and any calcium ingested, whether through diet or supplementation, ends up in their cardiac arteries!! I had a neurosurgeon who had me on 1800 mgs of calcium per day (3,000 mgs per day while hospitalized and for two weeks after each of two surgeries). He never recommended Vitamin D or K2, nor any other mineral (silica, strontium). This went on at his insistence for FOUR YEARS! It was when I had a CT scan of my lungs during a bad episode of double pneumonia that I found out about the calcium inside my heart! But even so, it was years later when I was in need of a tooth implant that the oral surgeon told me to cut my then-1200mgs of calcium down to 1000, and add in silica, strontium and collagen so that my jawbone would be strong enough to hold up to an implant. He also told me that if a woman isn’t on HRT, the powdered bone graft won’t take-he has to turn women away for this at least twice a week!
The mainstream medical advice works so well, that so many people are clearly getting healthier and healthier. Especially the ones that need medications to achieve things such as weight loss. Isn’t that right?

Hello, can you please give us a dedicated video regarding lowering cholesterol and the different types of medicine along with their benefits. Which form of medicine would be best? Thanks.
Thanks for this informative video. would love a dedicated video on how to lower cholesterol. It would be great if it could include how to or if it is possible to reverse existing arterial blockages
I am allergic to Lipitor, Niacin and Berberine. I get constant nausea and liver problems from these drugs. However, after 25 years, I bit the bullet and tried Rosuvastatin. It's fabulous, after 18 months there are still no no side effects and my LDL is down to 52. Trying a different statin might be an option. It's certainly possibly to reverse arterial stenosis - see Esselstyn's book and Ornish's clinical trial. Also, 'There is very good evidence that high-intensity statins, also called high-dose statins, can reverse CAD, says Steven Nissen, MD, chair of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. A landmark study led by Nissen 15 years ago called the ASTEROID trial found that patients who took a very strong statin daily for 2 years were able to reverse plaque buildup and thickening of their arteries. “They had to get their LDL down to very low levels for us to see these results, around 60 mg/dL,” or 60 milligrams per deciliter of blood, explains Nissen.' But if you can't tolerate statins, following Esselstyn;s and Ornish's approaches might be worth a try.
I think its funny what ppl call the Mediterranean diet. Have you all been to Greece or Italy, do you really know what those ppl eat on average? Seems like most people image of Mediterranean its a fantasy made in the US.
The "Mediterranean diet" is built around vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, beans and whole grains. Moderate amounts of dairy, poultry and eggs are part of the Mediterranean diet, as is seafood. It not neccessarily the same diet many people living in the Mediterranean area eat today.
It would be great to have a video fully discussing strategies to lower cholesterol. I would like to know how much a person can do with exercise (for example ligh cardio vs. intensive cardio) and what can be done with medication. For some people who are not old, have no problems and would like to avoid drugs, is it possible to have a normal apoB with exercise alone? And if not possible then how low can we go and what should we do? (what kind of exercise?)
So Celtic Sea salt is less processed than other salts, with trace minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium. Is this still ok to have? I add a pinch to my water every day.

You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health. Lower stress, reduce obesity, get enough sleep and more exercise are key to a healthy life. Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world. Fast food and sugary drinks including fruit juices are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity. Can you talk about High blood pressure medications like beta blockers and calcium channel blockers and others? They are some interesting medications in terms of what they do to the body.
Could you please do a video on the Keto and Carnivore diets? The latter seems to be getting a lot of traction with social media personalities like the Petersons.
Social media personalities…people who want to make money suggesting that what people like is also good for them. So they say that saturated fat is good, carnivore diets are great, ldl is protective, etc. No science, just snake oil sellers, with millions of naive viewers.
There’s a clinic in California called True north headed by Dr. Alan Goldhammer (off the top of my head). He has a team that does medical supervised water fasts that may last for weeks and weeks. My question is if there are studies that show that such water fasts reverse atherosclerosis? Can water fasting undo soft and hard plaques? I’m thinking that maybe the soft plaques less like on the hard plaques but you never know.
Billions of jabs total world wide. Alot of people really don't understand the magnitude, statistics or have any critical thinking. With that many jabs, even 99,9% could be problem free. There will still be thousands of people with side effects. People die every day, heart attacks and all kinds of problems. But people will link it to the jab ofcourse. Heck, you could get a headache from blood pressure increase because you're scared of needles.
The salt thing is so confusing because my doctor tells me to add salt because I have low blood pressure and my diet is mostly whole foods no salt added,, but all I've ever heard since I was a kid is "salt is bad, salt is evil, don't eat salt". Now I've heard people say salt is essential so which is it is it good or bad?
@MasterThought72 I don't eat any processed food except protein That's probably why my salt intake is low but if salt is that important why so much messaging on keeping it low and cutting it out? How many teaspoons or tablespoons of salt do we need a day? I don't know where to start, I don't understand milligrams I only understand teaspoons tablespoons when it comes to food measurements
@MasterThought72 oh man it's been more than 30 years since I've eaten chips I've never craved salty things though I've been more a sweet taste person but I definitely don't eat any process package junky foods, I think I'm just afraid of salt because since I was a kid my mom always said she had high blood pressure and she talked about salt like it was an evil thing ,, she would order pizza from Pizza Hut and then she would make me call Pizza Hut and ask them how much salt was in the pizza, pretty embarrassing for a kid to have to do , looking back I realize how unhealthy and crappy her diet was but she kept blaming her high blood pressure on the salt , I realize now that someone that had her diet didn't need to add salt anyway ,, but it does make sense now that people who eat whole foods don't eat out ,don't eat package prepared meals can add some salt and not have high blood pressure ? I'm also physically active I work out everyday and I walk everyday , my mom was not physically active either that could also be what caused her high blood pressure,, ok I'm a little less scared of adding salt now but which salt is the best? The only thing I've heard is that regular table salt is low quality and it doesn't have minerals but I would rather get a salt that has minerals, which salt would you recommend?
this interesting i saw a video that showed a chart that showed a huge rise in heart disease from people moving from animal fats to unsaturated fats over the course of about 60 years, they showed that the issue was with unsaturated fats absorbed into the heart and other tissue and stay there for a long time but they break down i think they said they oxidize. anyway not saying that your data is wrong but interesting beacuse not sure which to believe, they both sound right but only 1 could be right
Well I get up 4 hours before the sun comes up. Sometimes, here in Michigan, we don't see the sun for several days in the winter months. What do you recommend for that.
We can prevent almost all heart attacks, and the earlier you start the steps outlined in this video, the more protected you are.

PS.

Coconut oils contains saturated fat that is not healthy. MCT raises triglycerides, which is also not healthy. Especially, if taken regularly and in larger doses. Dose and regularity plays an important role here! 😉
Keto = bad. Mostly because it advocate eating of saturated fats....which all bigger studies has shown increases risk for early problems with heart health issues.

You didn’t mention don’t smoke but I guess it goes without saying 😊. Thanks for all of your great informative videos!

Yes a cholesterol video and why there are videos that say high LDL does not contribute to heart disease or lowering LDL aggresively with drugs to 40-60 is not necessary.
Yes, unfortunately doctors/influencers cherry pick the studies that suit their conclusions.
Yes for the cholesterol meds video! 🙏🏼
please make a dedicated video about cholesterol meds.
I'm still very skeptical about plant based proteins being safer than real meat. Especially soy products.
You're definitely right. They still satanize meat and in fact what they promote (PLENTY OF FRUITS) is what is destroying people's lives.
Agree we need to examine the data

Hi Brad,

"As a reduction in salt intake decreases blood pressure (BP) in individuals with elevated BP, we are commonly advised to cut down on salt. However, the effect of salt reduction on BP in people with a normal BP has been questioned. Furthermore, several studies have shown that salt reduction activates the salt conserving hormonal system (renin and aldosterone), the stress hormones (adrenalin and noradrenalin) and increases fatty substances (cholesterol and triglyceride) in the blood."
In particular, cholesterol increased by 2.9% and triglyceride increased by 6.3%.

Thank you very much. You are helping me live a healthy lifestyle.

Thanks Dr Brad. How often do you have a “cheat” style meal, higher SFA, sodium etc if at all?
Endurance athletes need more sodium due to the loss of sweat. LMNT is a great way to get enough electrolytes like sodium, potassium and magnesium which are crucial for energy, focus, and muscle activation & neural firing
The amount matters, our ancestors were running in Africa with salt in takes of roughly 500mg while most Americans are eating 3400. Eating 1500mg is plenty, LMNT isn't necessary. If you eat plants you'll get plenty of potassium and magnesium. A good plant based diet should get you 6000mg of potassium and 1000mg of magnesium.
For those of us who are night shift workers, such as myself part time, we must have other ways to boost our health: Extra Good Diet and exercise. And I am able to catch up on my sleep. I don't have serious health problems, so far. But night shift workers must retire early to avoid health problems in middle age.

Can you do a detailed video on saturated fat? Because there's different kinds and some are really hard to understand their impacts. Coconut for example.
He wrote in response to my bringing up all these controversies that I should ignore HIM AND all the debates and simply follow orthodox advice. Kind of weird.
Another great video. Thank you. Yes, indeed, please do offer a dedicated video regarding cholesterol-lowering medications. Thanks again!
I suggest doing your own research on LDL.
Excellent, as usual.
High Intensity Health podcast reviewed new data that shows that the longest lived people also had the highest total cholesterol.
Exactly 🤣 That's what I said above. Tons of people who die from CVD had their LDL normal or low. I mean this doctor still insists eating meat increases the risk. Tipical Pharma speech.
Fun fact. A 3 oz 85% lean burger has 2/3 the calories and the same saturated fat content as 3 tbsp of olive oil.
Fun fact. Burgers don't have over 30 various types of phenolic compounds. Keep swallowing your burgers. You do you.
@@KasKade7 Fun Fact. This video and my comment was on the topic of saturated fat. You're caught up in dogma. Open your mind.
@@patrino Blue zones are a myth. Ikarians eat a ton of cheese, yogurt, goat, lamb and other meats along with fish and lots of olive oil.
Yes, please do a dedicated video on cholesterol lowering drugs.
Nice summary
Please do a debate with Paul Saladino. Thanks!
I would love to see this. Im a fan of Paul Saladino and have been trying his methods this month. Meat, eggs, dairy, fruit, and just salt. Dropped 5lb without trying.

If LDL drops below 50 the risk of hemorrhaging stroke goes up by 169% according to the Japanese Clinical Study.
I would like a dedicated video to cholesterol reducing drugs
The mainstream medical advice works so well, that so many people are clearly getting healthier and healthier. Especially the ones that need medications to achieve things such as weight loss.
Isn’t that right?
Sounds like you're baiting him (I apologize if that's not the case). Americans are not getting healthier, but the tips discussed in the video are not to blame.
Hello, can you please give us a dedicated video regarding lowering cholesterol and the different types of medicine along with their benefits. Which form of medicine would be best? Thanks.
brushing your teeth after dinner to prevent evening snacking is a great tip 👌
Thanks!
“They had to get their LDL down to very low levels for us to see these results, around 60 mg/dL,” or 60 milligrams per deciliter of blood, explains Nissen.'
But if you can't tolerate statins, following Esselstyn;s and Ornish's approaches might be worth a try.

Please make a in depth video on cholesterol lowering drugs.
Thank you for your hard work : )
Yes, Dr. I am interested in cholesterol lowering medications video
Great video. Pls make a video of cholesterol meds.
How about cardiac arrest? Do these recommendations also reduce cardiac arrest or just cardiac attacks? Are cardiac arrests preventable?
Cardiac arrest is usually (about 70% of cases) caused by a cardiac attack

So Celtic Sea salt is less processed than other salts, with trace minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium. Is this still ok to have?
I add a pinch to my water every day.
We need a list of the most effective supplements to lower LDL cholesterol. Currently i'm taking red yeast rice, niacin, nattokinase, pqq, flax, acacia with medditerranean diet, no egg yolks, no sodas, no snacks. Will have labs done next month

I have been on a loose plan to keep saturated to under 9% of my diet. I will see at this year’s annual blood work if I was successful.
Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly.
Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices.
Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly.
Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer.
Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game.
A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility.
Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun.
Every city should be a bicycle city.
Speak up for bicycles in your community
Processed food manufacturers need to hear from consumers that less ADDED chemicals, sugar, oil and salt is wanted in their food products.
Why is there so much ADDED sugar in everything, even bread. That's just crazy
Email, text, tweet or phone your favorite producer of poison and let them know consumers want less salt, oils and sugars in their products.
Let their customer service department know that all the extra added salt, oil and sugar is not necessary or desired and is causing health issues.
Reduce or eliminate highly processed food from your diet if you can.
I see a problem in not having long term data on those who switch to, and stick to a Mediterranean diet in early, mid, or late adulthood

Dark chocolate seems to be protective, coconut oil is bad for the heart.
Could you please do a video on the Keto and Carnivore diets?
The latter seems to be getting a lot of traction with social media personalities like the Petersons.

#1. Don't take the jab.
Gotten every possible jab with zero side effects.
@MasterThought72 I don't eat any processed food except protein
That's probably why my salt intake is low but if salt is that important why so much messaging on keeping it low and cutting it out? How many teaspoons or tablespoons of salt do we need a day? I don't know where to start, I don't understand milligrams I only understand teaspoons tablespoons when it comes to food measurements
@MasterThought72 oh man it's been more than 30 years since I've eaten chips I've never craved salty things though I've been more a sweet taste person but I definitely don't eat any process package junky foods, I think I'm just afraid of salt because since I was a kid my mom always said she had high blood pressure and she talked about salt like it was an evil thing ,, she would order pizza from Pizza Hut and then she would make me call Pizza Hut and ask them how much salt was in the pizza, pretty embarrassing for a kid to have to do , looking back I realize how unhealthy and crappy her diet was but she kept blaming her high blood pressure on the salt
, I realize now that someone that had her diet didn't need to add salt anyway ,, but it does make sense now that people who eat whole foods don't eat out ,don't eat package prepared meals can add some salt and not have high blood pressure ? I'm also physically active I work out everyday and I walk everyday , my mom was not physically active either that could also be what caused her high blood pressure,, ok I'm a little less scared of adding salt now but which salt is the best? The only thing I've heard is that regular table salt is low quality and it doesn't have minerals but I would rather get a salt that has minerals, which salt would you recommend?
this interesting
i saw a video that showed a chart that showed a huge rise in heart disease from people moving from animal fats to unsaturated fats over the course of about 60 years, they showed that the issue was with unsaturated fats absorbed into the heart and other tissue and stay there for a long time but they break down i think they said they oxidize. anyway not saying that your data is wrong but interesting beacuse not sure which to believe, they both sound right but only 1 could be right
Hi Dr What about ideal body temperature?
Umm,, your own healthy body will take care of that.
Well I get up 4 hours before the sun comes up.
Sometimes, here in Michigan, we don't see the sun for several days in the winter months.
What do you recommend for that.
