      Try the Yellow Brandywine Plattfoot strain. I wish it was more productive but the taste warrants my planting half a dozen of my 50 plants in that variety. TOMATOES are not adoptive to regions generally but a few like Black Krim flourish in hot weather

    I have to admit, I miss your old garden. While I love the aesthetic you are going for with your beautifully structured beds, I miss the sprawling naturalistic design of your old garden. I hope you continuously add more and more to this new property as well.

    Beautiful tomatoes! And your plants look.....AMAZING! I have been (the past 2 years) using the single stem method, but it definitely is very time consuming. I may just let my plants "do their thing" this year, except for removing the bottom foot of leaves, as that definitely does help with disease splashing up from the soil. I hope your garden is continuing to produce bountifully for you, and hope that you are doing well and are safe and healthy during this insane time. :)

    • @suburbanhomestead
      @suburbanhomestead  4 года назад

      I'm doing well. Hope you get lots of tomatoes. Maybe one day I'll have more time to train tomatoes.

    • @lindaknittel7648
      @lindaknittel7648 4 года назад

      I'm not sure its actually worth the effort to single stem them? But I have found removing the bottom 10-12" of leaves is definitely helpful. I was really in awe at how unscathed by disease and/or insects your entire plant was! We ALWAYS have an issue with the dreaded tomato horn worm. This year, I bought a small hand-held black light to use at night, so I can find the little suckers and remove them. I heard this tip from one of my other favorite vloggers, so I figured I'd spend the $15 for a small one. You are lucky you seem to be void of them where you live!

    • @suburbanhomestead
      @suburbanhomestead  4 года назад

      Indeed they were very much trouble free that year. I did have the tomato hornworm, but it didn’t become a problem and there was a built in solution I will show in a future episode

    Sadly, we had our share of heatwaves last year that sterilized our tomato blossoms and we only harvested a couple of handfuls from around 20 plants. I pray this year is kinder to us.
