Take me back to a time when
The oceans were not a galaxy of plastic stars
When two-legged beings lived in harmony with the many-legged ones
When the only holes that need to be plugged were in our hearts and not in the sky
When the earth was a blue-green sphere and not a grey-black mass
When you took less than what you received
When you wanted only as much as your need
When water from the ponds was safe to drink
When the fishes called the sea their home and trees called forests their kingdom
When the dead were buried in the earth and not in a wasteland
When the now extinct still walked and graced the land
What have we done to our home?
- Charles Wood.
Whatever you give, is what you receive!
We are all in the same boat. We are all going to die!
Suffocating, choking, bleeding, tangled, helpless is what our environment is right now. It’s not late to act to save the existing but too late for the ones already extinct.
What have we done? There is no going back but there is ‘Stop’ using them.
It’s happening...
Now it’s up to us to decide whether we add ... global mass extinction or ... people are changing for good.
While plastic has many valuable uses, we have become addicted to single-use or disposable plastic - with severe environmental consequences.
Around the world, 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used worldwide every year. In total, half of all plastic produced is designed to be used only once - and then thrown away.
Plastic waste is now so ubiquitous in the natural environment that scientists have even suggested it could serve as a geological indicator of the Anthropocene era.
So how did we get here?
We need to slow the flow of plastic at its source, but we also need to improve the way we manage our plastic waste. Because right now, a lot of it ends up in the environment.
Rivers carry plastic waste from deep inland to the sea, making them major contributors to ocean pollution
If current trends continue, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish by 2050
THINK, ACT, SAVE... REPEAT!
