I agree with trying to not have to flip the fabric over, this is the perfect solution. Thank you Laura. Your tips are so helpful and I've lost count of how many of them I use regularly - can't thank you enough.
Thank-you Laura zippers, button holes and FABRIC CUTTING are my nightmares and challenges in sewing. you've answer alot of my minds questions. Maybe now those inner Cutting Voices can Stop! Haa haaa. TFS.
It never ceases to amaze me how much fabric I lose because it wasn't cut straight at the store, or wound straight on the bolt. I bought some water resistant exterior fabric, by the time I straightened it, I had lost 8 inches, 4 from each end. I'm happy that I bought an extra 1/2 yard. I'm happy to know I'm straightening it correctly. Have a great week
+Jennie Wallick This is exactly why I refuse to shop at JoAnn anymore. They cut that fabric and it looks like an alligator has chomped it off the bolt. SO much waste when trying to square it up. I complained to the manager once and asked why can't they rotary cut or tear it like some do with velvet...was met with a glassy eyed stare and shrugged shoulders..."We cut with scissors." Equilter & Missouri Star Quilt CO. now get the majority of my business. Thank you Laura, this was a really easy tip I never thought of. Will save much frustration
Hi Laura, what I meant is this: you fold the fabric in half and you hold it in front of you. You wiggle the fabric with your thumbs and index fingers until there are no more ripples and then you place it carefully on the cutting mat . I am French-speaking so sometimes , I don't always myself clearly. Thank you. 😎
I love the way you explained that, I could see it very clearly:) So to answer your questions "Yes" It is important to get that nice straight fabric first. And that is a great way to do it. In this video I had already done that before the first project so I knew it was good to go! Good question and Thanks for asking
I'm amazed at your expertise. Thank you. I have a question. I noticed that you didn't square up,the fabric before . I thought it was a must. Thank you.
This is how I was initalkt3 taught to cut fabric in my first quilting class - 2 rulers to square up and cut. I never use the markings on my cutting mats.
Thank you, more great ideas and such sweet fabric! This too would be helpful for the fabric stores for their own control let alone our purchases. ~ Curious what large square ruler and which cutting mat you used here and / or recommend.
+AnoushBotanical Thank you and the ruler is a 16.5" square, and this is the mat www.joann.com/36x59-cutting-mat/2622033.html#start=10 I like the size of this mat. Thanks for watching
What types of rulers are always used for tailoring or cutting and designing. Please let me know the brand name and size of the biggest ruler and also the square biggest ruler along with the size and brand . All the three rulers you have used in this project also the brand and size of the rotary cutter. Thank you and God bless you.
Hi Laura, what I meant is this: you know, when you fold the fabric in half and you hold it in front of you; and you move the fabric with your thumbs and index fingers in order to square the fabric, to get it of the folds and then after you place the fabric on the mat and you can cut it. ( I'm French-speaking, I hope I find the right words to express my idea. ) Thank you. 😎

I bought a quilt kit from Craftsy and there isn't a pattern in it!! I'm a beginner too, my very first quilt!! It supposed to be a beginner quilt but the cover said Intermediate!?! Yikes!! The background fabric has no selvages! It's like 140" L x 90" Wide!! I don't know how to manage the fabric or based of of the strips, which there are 6 different sizes to precut and I'm SO frustrated!! It's supposed to be FUN!!😩😩. I've emailed them and the designer but to no avail! There is supposed to be teacher and classroom help but I cannot find that either!! Will you please help me?
SewVeryEasy I can't manage such a big bulk of fabric...my cutting table is 24"x36" and fabric spills over even when folded! I accidentally cut 2 strips but realized I didn't cut from Width! There's supposed to be 4-3"x70" strips, to be used for the border, which I can tear along the length BUT I don't know how to get there cuz the whole sheet is approx 90"Wx140"L....so half of sheet will be for the 70" strips but I cannot manage such bulk AND cut the other half for the other 5 different piles of cuttings for rest of quilt. Please tell me you understand... I mean did I explain it properly?
Ripping it, will insure a straight of grain each and every time. Without useing any ruler. Give it a try. All professional seamstress use this shortcut

I have a question. I noticed that you didn't square up,the fabric before . I thought it was a must. Thank you.
I'm not sure what you are asking as I squared up the fabric with the second ruler. Can you re-ask the question please:)

Where can I get these rulers and what are their prices.
I make garments, I cut about 2 inches where the fabric cut edge isn’t straight, and tear all the way down, wallah straight line.
As always, good and useful information. Thank you once again. 8-)
